Abstract

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is an approach to learning activity that uses foreign language as a medium for learning content so that the competence on the language and the subject area content can be achieved simultaneously. CLIL can be implemented in elementary level, secondary level, as well as tertiary or higher education level. In higher education, CLIL might have two significant reasons to be implemented: the globalized world and university internationalization. So far in Indonesia, nearly all universities have not implemented CLIL yet. This study aims at finding out the lecturers’ perceptions towards CLIL in higher education. The participants of the study were thirty-three lecturers from non-English departments of Universitas Muria Kudus. The intrument to collect the data was closed-ended questionnaire. The result reveals that the non-English department lecturers quite disagree for CLIL to be implemented in higher education. Their objection for having English as a medium of instruction seems to lie in their own ability of English as well as their students’ poor English proficiency. Keywords: CLIL, higher education, non-English department lecturers

Abstract

Different learner’s educational levels need different teaching method orientations. Adult and young learners are certainly treated by using different teaching method orientation. The independency of college students as adult learners in learning is still oftentimes found in low level. Both college students and lecturers still have big chance to be involved in a learning process which is not yet entirely supported by principles of independent learning.. This condition is quite contradicted with their status as adult learners who should have applied independent learning, and still experienced by the students at English Education Department of Muria Kudus University (EED MKU). The high independency of learning refers to the adult learners that should be involved in Andragogically oriented teaching methods (AOTM), while the low independency of learning refers to the young learners that should be involved in Pedagogically oriented teaching methods (POTM.) This study is aimed at comparing the effectiveness of implementing AOTM and POTM to the students graduating from vocational and non vocational high schools. This is a quantitative study with the population of 87 students joining Speaking for Instructional Purposes (SIP) classes at EED MKU. Teaching practice pre and post tests are used as the instrument of this study. The results indicate that AOTM and POTM give impact to improve the teaching practice achievement of the students both graduating from vocational and non-vocational high schools when comparing the scores of pre-tests and post-tests, but the AOTM and POTM implemented in SIP classes with students graduating from vocational schools and from non-vocational schools do not result in impact on their teaching practice. However, in a certainly different condition the implementation of AOTM and POTM might give more impact to the teaching practice achievement of the students graduating from vocational schools than those graduating from non-vocational schools

Abstract

The aims of this study were (1) to find out the feasibility of the module with Flip PDF Corporate on integers for class VI SD students in class VI SD, (2) to find out the practicality of modules with Flip PDF Corporate on integers for class VI SD students in class VI SD and (3) find out the effectiveness of the module with Flip PDF Corporate on integer grade VI SD students in grade VI SD. This type of research uses a development research model known as R&D (Research and Development) using Sugiyono's development model with the following steps: (1) potential and problems; (2) data collection; (3) product design; (4) design validation; (5) design revisions; (6) product trials; (7) product revisions; (8) trial use. The subjects in this study were students of class VI at SDN Tlogorejo 2 and students of class VI at SDN Sidomulyo 2, Wonosalam District, Demak Regency. We collected data using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The data analysis technique in this study was to find the average rating of all validators, find the average student response to the module and test the independent sample t test. The results showed that 1) the e-module using flip PDF corporate in mathematics learning integer material is feasible to use, (2) the response of teachers and students gives a positive response to the use of the e-module flip PDF corporate based and (3) the application of flip PDF corporate based on the experimental class gave better learning outcomes than the control class.

Abstract

The ability to communicate in children is still low and has yet to develop according to expectations and age stages. Children can interact less and communicate properly and correctly with their environment. This research aims to create a storytelling method assisted by loose parts media to improve Javanese language skills in kindergarten. This type of research is development research, with this research method referring to the theory of Borg and Gall. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The analysis used in this study was quantitative and qualitative. The subjects of this study were kindergarten teachers and students. The material expert validation process assessment obtained an average result of 3.83 with a percentage of 95%, including the very good category. Linguists get an average result of 3.67 with a percentage of 92%, and the category is very good. The teacher's response obtained an average of 3.63, scoring 30 in the very good category. The child's response obtained an average result of 3.68 with a total score of 138 in the very good category. The results of calculating N-Gain in the field test as an experimental class obtained post-test results of 80.67 and 80.33, respectively, while for the control class, the post-test obtained results of 56.00. The results show that developing Javanese storytelling methods with the help of loose parts media for kindergarten children is feasible and effective in improving children's Javanese language skills.

Abstract

The learning process does not lead to character education, so the child's character needs to be improved. The lack of interesting learning media development is because teachers use monotonous learning media. There are no learning innovations that can attract children's interest. This research aims to create interesting storytelling media using corn husks to build children's character to be better and have good morals. This type of research is R & D research, with this research method referring to the theory of Borg and Gall, which consists of ten steps of research implementation. Research subjects with 15 students as the experimental and five as the control classes. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and questionnaires. The analysis used in this research is quantitative and qualitative. The results of developing media using corn husks through storytelling techniques based on the validation of material experts and media experts are feasible for building polite, honest, and disciplined characters in children. Media development using corn husks through effective storytelling techniques is used to build polite, honest, and disciplined characters in Kindergarten Group B children with a t-test of 21,189 and a t-table of 4,381 or 21,189 more than 4,381. At the same time, the N-Gain score is 71 in the effective category.
