Abstract

The current study attempts to describe the lexicon “sakit” in Bimanese used by Mbojo ethnic group in daily communication and analyze the meaning difference from the semantic perspective. The research applied descriptive qualitative method of analysis and the data were collected by using fishbowl, recording, and note taking technique. Based on the data analysis the findings reveal that thirteen lexicons “sakit“ are used by Mbojo ethnic group in daily communication including supu [supu], hengge [hengge], sari’i [sari’i], rambo [rambo], mbalo [mbalo], mancoro [mancoro], kantero [kantero], duha [duha], pili [pili], ngelu [ngelu], ncara oi [ncara ?wi], mbowi [mb ?wi] and winte [winte].

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the student’s reading comprehension by using reading for meaning strategy of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Lape in academic year 2020/2021.The method of this research was an experimental research. The participants of this research were the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Lape academic year 2020/2021. The sample of this researh are consisted 32 of students in the control class and 31 students in the experimental class. The data collection of this research was pre test and post test. Then, data was analyzed by using SPSS. The reseult of this research was student’s reading comprehension by using reading for meaning strategy of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Lape in academic year 2020/2021 wa significant. Futhermore, the mean score of the reading comprehension ability of the students taught by using conventional strategies of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Lape was 78.87. There was a significant difference between the reading comprehension ability of the students taught by using reading for meaning strategy and that of the students taught by using conventional strategies of the eleventh grade students of SMAN1 Lape.

Abstract

This is a quantitative descriptive research. The objective of this research was to know the influence of class group presentation in improving the students’ writing essay of English language learning. The participants of this research were 11 of the fifth semester students of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa. Data collecting instrument used structurally arranged questionnaires, and written test. The data was analyzed by quantitative method. The data analyzed technique employed descriptive statistics through percentage techniques. The result of the research showed that there were 8 students or 72.73% gain in the best category level of skill, there were 3 students or 27.27% gain in good category level of skill, and the mean score was 81.27 in the level of best category. Data from questionnaire, 9 students with 81.82% stated they strongly agreed that the implementation of group class presentation more active during teaching and learning process of writing essay.

Abstract

This research conducted based on the phenomon on the languages and behaviours are showed by the students when they interact with their friends, teachers, and stafs at school. This research aims to find out the changes of students’ language and behavior  in relation with the intensity of intercultural communication using social media. This research had been done in one of Senior High Schools in Mataram especially to the third grade students of science and social department. In getting the data, this research applied observation, interview, and questionnaire. It found that the intensity of exchange culture information by using social media has influenced most teenager today. Firstly, the students tend to use their language by using a kind of “Alay language” when they interact with their friends or even with their teachers whether inside or outside of the classroom. Secondly, the intensity of exchange culture information by using social media could help students to finish their school tasks. They work cooperatively with their friends in small groups. They are able to find out the information they need to present cultural celebrations and how something happens in less than fifteen minutes. This intercultural communication could also help them to build up their awareness of cultural differences among them. However, this intensive exchange of cultural information could also lead students to prefer to communicate with their network friends to friends in their school and home environment. Moreover, the students are likely becoming less sensitive towards their friends’ problems. In addition, the intensive of exchange of culture information by using social media could lead them to the model of thinking which is likely to force their arrogances and egoism.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out The Contributions of Tourism Industry toward Students’ Speaking Motivation in Learning English on Students who live around Tourism Object. The participants of this research proposal is the students who live around tourism object (case study at Kencana Beach Cottages in Labuhan Badas Sumbawa Besar). The present study used mixed method. It contain to be examined in relation to quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. The instrument used in collecting data was questionnaire, speaking test and observation.  Questionnaire and speaking test used descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages. It was analyzed by using SPSS Program.Observation was analyzed by using qualitative method. Based on the data analysis technique above, it was found out the the contributions oftourism industry toward students’ speaking motivation in learning English and to know how the contribution of tourism industry toward students’ speaking motivation in English.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine errors on past tense in a writing a narrative text of by 12 participants. The participantswere second semester students of English Education Department of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa in theacademic year 2014/2015. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The instrument used for this studywas participants’ written narrative texts. The results of the study show that there were errors committed by theparticipants on using past tense. All of the errors on using past tense in the written narrative texts was identified andclassified; these were addition, omission, and misformation.These aspects of writing in English pose the most difficultproblems to participants. This study has shed light on the manner in which students internalize the rules of the targetlanguage, which is English. Such an insight into language learning problems is useful to lecturers because it providesinformation on common trouble-spots in language learning which can be used in the preparation of effective teachingmaterials.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the implementation e-learning during pandemic era Covid-19. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method. The participants in this study amounted to 11 students of 3rd semester of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa. Data collection techniques in this study used questionnaires with Likert scale and interview. Data analysis techniques used Likert Scale Assessment. The results showed that learning with implementation e-learning applications were effective, interactive, could support distance learning, making it easier for students to absorb the learning material delivered by lecturer during Pandemic Covid-19.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pembinaan dan pelatihan teknik debat Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMAN I Moyo Utara Kabupaten Sumbawa. Tahapan-tahapan dalam kegiatan ini adalah (1) Planning, (2) Sosialisasi peraturan dan teknik National School Debating Championship (NSDC), (3) Pemberian materi debat bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan dengan mengenalkan tema atau topik gagasan debat yang akan diperlombakan di tingkat Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat dengan standar internasional, (4) Pendampingan dan pelatihan debat bahasa Inggris dengan memberikan materi terkait motion yang dilombakan, (5) Peserta pendampingan melakukan latihan pemahaman materi yang diberikan oleh pendamping, (6) Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan dengan membuat kelompok debat, kemudian melakukan debat intra kelompok, dan (7) Pelaporan kegiatan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi selama kegiatan (1) Peserta didik sangat termotivasi dan percaya diri menggunakan Bahasa Inggris selama pendampingan dan pelatihan debat, dan (2) Selama berinteraksi atau komunikasi dengan Bahasa Inggris, peserta didik masih menemui hambatan terkait kekurangan vocabulary, pronunciation dan grammar used. Kegiatan ini dilakukan untuk membina dan melatih teknik debat Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMAN I Moyo Utara Kabupaten Sumbawa, sehingga mereka memiliki keterampilan debat dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Luaran yang akan dihasilkan dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah siswa mampu melakukan debat Bahasa Inggris sesuai standar internasional.

Abstract

The present study attempts to examine the competence of descriptive writing skills of the Eighth Grade of Junior High School in the Sumbawa District. The study employed virtual technology as a teaching medium. The quantitative descriptive research design was applied to collect pre-test and post-test data. The tests were descriptive text writing. The effectiveness of the virtual technology was measured by comparing pre-test, post-test, and paired samples t-test. Based on the data analysis result, it is evident that the virtual technology was significant for the eighth grade of Junior High Schools Lopok in the Sumbawa District.

Abstract

The purpose of this Community Service Activity is to examine the response of the community and government regarding the smelter program. These activities were held in the villages of Benete and Maluk, West Sumbawa Regency. The activity which was held in December 2021 involved 126 participants. The details of the participants involved are 6 local government officials, 15 youth delegates, 15 community leaders, 15 religious leaders, and 15 community members who have a direct impact on the Smelter project in Maluk village, and 15 youth delegates, 15 people community leaders, 15 religious leaders, and 15 community leaders who have a direct impact on the Smelter project in Benete village. The method of carrying out activities is the structured interview method. PkM is carried out in three stages, namely; 1) planning, 2) implementation of activities, and 3) reporting of activities. The results of the analysis show that; 1) The local government supports the construction of a smelter in Sumbawa Regency in order to increase the wheels of development and improve the community's economy, and 2) People in Maluk and Benete villages strongly agree with the construction of a smelter in West Sumbawa Regency.
