Abstract

This community service program is based on the importance of soft skills for the younger generation. The current initiative aims to stimulate highlanders' interest in learning English through environmental and natural folklore literature, as well as to improve soft skills for Karang Taruna in Penrang Village, Wajo. The goal is to pique people's interest in learning English and help them improve their skills (soft skills). To discover knowledge and support technology, the program use question and answer and discussion methods. During the learning process, the lecturing method was employed to obtain a theoretical understanding of English. Youth are more likely to understand English when it is taught through natural-themed storybooks, according to the findings. Youths exhibit significant improvement after using the book. Another benefit was that young adults may acquire English quickly and use it as a springboard for other activities.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to see if using dilemma stories as a teaching tool can help students improve their speaking abilities. The third semester of IAI As'adiyah Sengkang was involved in this study, which employed a descriptive-quantitative method. Interviews were used to acquire data, which were subsequently documented and examined qualitatively. The adoption of the dilemma tale approach can increase students' speaking abilities in the third semester of IAI As'adiyah Sengkang, according to data analysis. The statistical analysis shows that the mean score of the student's accuracy in the pretest (2.45) is lower than in the post-test (3.3), that the mean score of the student's fluency in the pretest (2.4) is lower than in the post-test (3.45), and that the mean score of the student's comprehensibility in the pretest (2.9) is lower than in the post-test (3.3). (3.8). The table reveals that the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the student's speaking ability is higher (10.76) than the inferential statistical analysis shows (1.729).

Abstract

This study aims to identify the speaking issues second semester English education students at the Islamic Institute of Religion (IAI) As' Adiyah Sengkang encountered that prevented students from speaking English and the solutions employed by English education students to address those issues. In the second semester of the Islamic Institute (IAI) As'adiyah Sengkang, 12 English education students participated in a qualitative study that includes this research. Interviews, questionnaires, and observation served as the research tools. The findings indicated that the second-semester English education students' speaking issues were due to a lack of vocabulary mastery, a lack of confidence, pronunciation issues, feelings of embarrassment and fear of making mistakes, nervousness, and a habit of speaking in their native tongue. Students in the second semester of English education employ the following methods to improve their speaking abilities: learning English through songs and movies, practicing a lot, and remaining calm.

Abstract

Many methods can be used by the community to burn coconut shells into charcoal, one of which is by utilizing appropriate technology fueled by diesel oil, namely shell powder processing machines. The production of briquettes from coconut shells is still limited and has not developed rapidly because the process of shelling coconut shells is still simple thus it takes three to five days. The use of adhesive amounts is not optimal. This is done to fulfill the community's desire; therefore, coconut shell waste can be managed as raw material for making briquettes to become a source of community income. The purpose of this research is to optimize the production of coconut shell briquettes by utilizing appropriate technology fueled by diesel oil. The method used is by conducting a trial process of starch adhesive treatment, namely 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 6.25%, and 7% with the amount of water 900 ml at a temperature of 70 0C to form gelatinization. As a result, it was found that the best starch adhesive treatment is in the 6.25% test with the ratio of the starch adhesive mixture, shell powder, and water being 0.25: 4: 0.9. It indicates that the resulting briquette shape is more efficient, has high density and small briquette pores.

Abstract

21st century learning is a collaboration of technology and science that can change students' abilities from LOTS (lower order thinking skills) to HOTS (higher order thinking skills). In its application, 21st century learning is supported by teaching resources and media based on environmental phenomena and technological developments. This research aims to determine the feasibility of the physics e-module based android application that has been developed after validation testing by media experts, material experts, and learning experts. This e-module was developed to serve as an innovation in physics learning in schools to improve high school students from LOTS to HOTS abilities. This type of research is development research by applying 4D model consisting of define, design, develop and disseminate stages. At the define stage, researchers examine and analyze phenomena in schools such as curriculum, student learning styles, teacher teaching styles, learning resources and learning media used. In the design stage, researchers design the needs of students and teachers in learning such as learning modules. In the develop stage, researchers develop products for student learning needs through expert validation from lecturers and teachers. In the disminate stage, researchers apply products that have been developed in schools. The population of this study was all class X students at SMAN 5 Mataram. Sampling in this research was carried out using a purposive sampling method. The classes chosen as research samples were classes X IPA 1 and The average score from the media validation results was 4.8 with a very valid category. The average score from the learning validation results was 4.7 in the very valid category. Based on the validation results, it was concluded that the development product in the form of an integrated physics e-module with local wisdom based on an Android application was suitable for use in schools.
