Abstract

The incidence of heart attack is one of the highest causes of death in the world and Indonesia. East Java ranks second highest for people with heart problems who risk getting a heart attack. The farmers had a high-risk factor for heart disease due to an unhealthy lifestyle (high-fat diet, smoking, caffeine consumption, and exposure to pesticides). Farmers in Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency also have the same risk. Farmers in the Sacred Village had a high enough risk of a heart attack. This is the reason for the Mulyo Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan), Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency, to be empowered in dealing with this problem. The purpose of implementing this service is to create a heart-friendly agricultural area in Suci Village by downstream the research results of the proposer team, increasing knowledge, attitudes, and skills of Gapoktan about BHD, and forming a group of volunteers for BHD Gapoktan Tani Mulyo. The method used starts with initial identification with partners, formulation of activities, implementation of activities, and final dissemination. The result is that Tani Mulyo's Gapoktan has been empowered to become a BHD volunteer. The results of our program implementation were evaluated by giving pretest and post-test questionnaires, which we analyzed with a dependent t-test. The result showed that there was a significant increase in the variables of knowledge (p=<0.001), attitude (p=0.003), and skills (p=<0.001) from Tani Mulyo's Gapoktan. With the implementation of this service, Tani Mulyo Gapoktan has been empowered to become a BHD volunteer to create a heart-friendly agricultural area.

Abstract

Background: Open fracture cases have complex management that involves bleeding control based on comprehensive knowledge and training. Augmented Reality (AR) offers an interactive learning approach that may enhance nursing students' motivation and knowledge of emergency open fracture cases. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of augmented reality in improving the knowledge and learning motivation of Indonesian nursing students regarding open fracture learning. Methods: This study used a cluster randomized pretest–posttest control group design involving four class groups of nursing students (n = 155). Two clusters received the Open Fracture Augmented Reality Application, while two received conventional lectures. Motivation was measured using the validated MSLQ, and knowledge using a 29-item validated questionnaire. Both groups completed pretest and posttest assessments. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon, and Mann–Whitney tests (α = 0.05). Results: A total of 155 nursing students participated, with balanced baseline characteristics between groups. The AR intervention significantly improved knowledge (p = 0.001, r = 0.38) and motivation (p = 0.022, r = 0.27) in the intervention group, while no significant gains occurred in the control group. Between-group analysis showed higher posttest knowledge in the AR group (p = 0.005), indicating that AR was more effective than conventional instruction, particularly for cognitive outcomes. Conclusion: Augmented Reality–based learning significantly improves nursing students’ knowledge of open-fracture management compared with traditional methods, while showing no significant between-group differences in motivation, highlighting AR’s value as an effective supplemental tool for enhancing understanding of complex clinical content.

Abstract

Indonesia is home to various natural disasters, including earthquakes and tsunamis, due to its location in the Ring of Fire. Jember Regency in East Java is one of the areas with a high risk of these disasters. Sabrang Village, bordering the South Coast of Jember, has the potential to become a disaster-resilient village. This program aims to increase disaster preparedness for children on the south coast, optimize partner empowerment in increasing child preparedness, and establish a Disaster Empowerment Center (DEC) in Sabrang Village. The DEC program was implemented over three months, involving coastal children. Methods included education, training, and empowerment through Communication, Information, and Education (IEC) and disaster simulation training. Program evaluation used a preparedness questionnaire covering participants' knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The DEC program succeeded in increasing disaster preparedness for children in Sabrang Village. Collaboration with the village government, public health center, and other partners was crucial to the program's success. DEC implementation can serve as a model for community empowerment in dealing with earthquakes and tsunamis.

Abstract

Background: Improper diet arrangements in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients can cause eating patterns to be disturbed in the form of binge eating behavior. The family can play a helping role in improving diabetes management. One of the interventions that can be given to empower families is the Family Caregiver Empowerment Model (FCEM). This study aimed to analyze the effect of FCEM on binge eating in T2D patients. Methods: This study was a randomized control group pre-test and post-test design with a total sample of 85 respondents taken by cluster random sampling, divided randomly (treatment = 41; control = 44). The independent variable is FCEM, while the dependent variable is binge eating behavior. Data was collected using the Indonesian version of the Binge Eating Scale questionnaire and analyzed used the Wilcoxon sign rank test and independent T-test. Results: There were differences in binge eating behavior in the treatment group before and after intervention (Z= -5.347; p=0.001), whereas in the control group, there was no difference in pre-test and post-test scores (Z= -0.599; p= 0.549). The study result showed that there was a significant difference in the average value between the treatment and control groups (t =5.017; p=0.001). Conclusion: FCEM intervention can reduce binge eating behavior to increase adherence to the diabetes diet program. Nurses can use FCEM intervention to empower family caregiver to help T2D patients improve and maintain eating habits to improve diabetes self-care behaviors.

Abstract

Trauma is a global health problem, which is a serious issue, claiming around 8% of all lives lost. Proper treatment is crucial, and accurate assessment is key. Coming hotfooting out of nowhere or being involved in a sudden accident are two of the most common causes.  Many methods have been established for the determination of trauma and for the guidance of treatment. This study attempted to compare the performance of NEWS, MREMS, and RTS in predicting death and ICU admission among trauma patients in Indonesia. This cross-sectional design analyzed 90 trauma patients admitted to the hospital in 2024. Patients aged ≥ 16 years with complete medical records were included. The instruments used to predict mortality and ICU admission were NEWS (National Early Warning Score), RTS (Revised Trauma Score), and MREMS. The analysis was conducted by comparing the predictive performance using AUCROC with the optimal threshold value by the Youden index. The Odds Ratio (OR) value was also determined. The analysis of this study was conducted using SPSS version 29. Interpretation results with p < 0.05 were considered significant. The results of this study analysis showed that the three scoring systems (NEWS, RTS, and MREMS) had excellent discriminatory ability to predict mortality (AUCROC ≥ 0.95, p < 0.001), with NEWS achieving the highest performance (AUCROC 0.979, sensitivity 0.966, specificity 0.883) compared to other instruments. In the ICU admission variable, the predictive performance results were lower, but NEWS still had a better value (AUCROC 0.816) compared to the others. This analysis concludes that the three instruments have acceptable discriminative power. NEWS is a superior instrument, as evidenced by better descriptive results for sensitivity and specificity in predicting trauma mortality and ICU admission. This finding further validates the usability of NEWS as an effective triage tool for predicting early risk of mortality and ICU admission in trauma patients.
