Abstract

Background: Before diabetes mellitus occurs, it is preceded by the occurrence of prediabetes. Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are above normal or elevated in the blood, but has not yet entered the stage of diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus. The high increase in the number of cases of prediabetes to DM is related to changes in people's lifestyle behavior and environmental factors. The most prominent factor is an unbalanced diet that triggers risk factors for prediabetes and if not managed properly will lead to DM.Methods: This type of research is quantitative with a cross sectional design. The study was conducted in the Capkala Health Center Work Area in September-December 2020, the research respondents amounted to 62 people which were divided into 31 healthy people and 31 with prediabetes. Data collection techniques in the form of knowledge questionnaires, attitudes and behavior of eating habits and clinical examination consisting of fasting blood sugar (GDP), systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and total cholesterolResults: The results showed that 96.8% of prediabetic respondents had good knowledge of eating habits and 100% of those who were healthy. Respondents who have a positive attitude towards efforts to eat habits are 100%. Prediabetic respondents who have good behavior towards habits 90.3% and 100% healthy. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of eating habits in healthy and prediabetic people are in the good category.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a degenerative disease triggered by unhealthy lifestyles such as obesity. Obesity is a condition of someone who has a body weight above normal or more than the Body Mass Index (BMI) value of 27 kg/m2. Obesity is prone to occur in adolescence. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for diabetes mellitus (DM) in obese adolescents. Methods: The method used was descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional approach conducted in October-December 2020 on adolescents at SMA Lab Salatiga and SMK Kristen BM Salatiga. The samples in this study were adolescents with obesity at SMA Lab Salatiga and SMK Kristen BM Salatiga. The data collection technique in this study used google form. The research data were processed using SPSS (Univariate and Chi Square Test). Results: From the results of the study, several factors of DM were found, including age, gender, family history of Diabetes Mellitus. There were 50.8% of respondents who had normal blood pressure and most of the blood sugar levels were normal (57.1%). In this study, diet and physical activity had no relationship with obesity. The results of the analysis using chi square obtained a p-value (p>0,05).Conclusion: Factors of diabetes mellitus (DM) include age, gender and family history of diabetes mellitus while blood pressure, obesity diet, physical activity do not jeopardize the occurrence of diabetes mellitus and diet.

Abstract

Unhealthy lifestyles are thought to contribute to the growing burden of obesity among adults, despite a preventable condition. Changing these behaviors requires appropriate and modern educational interventions. Social media platforms are increasingly used to contribute positively to supporting health behavior change. This study aimed to investigate the effect of using a social media module, specifically WhatsApp, on behavioral changes among adults with obesity. By using G-Power 3.1 software with an alpha level of 0.05, a power (1 - ß) of 0.95, an effect size of 0.64, and adding up to 10% buffer, the final sample consisted of 40 participants recruited using purposive random sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was conducted in this study. Data were collected using a questionnaire, biochemical markers, and anthropometry measurements, before and after intervention. Jamovi 2.3.28 software was used to test statistical analyses with a p-value < 0.05. Forty adult females (38.92 ± 3.79) participated in the six-week intervention. Significant relationships were found in knowledge (Z = -3.36, p = 0.003), attitudes (Z = -3.78, p = 0.001), and practices (Z = -8.90, p < 0.00) related to obesity. A significant shift in participants’ stages of behavioral change was also found (χ² = 17.8, p < 0.001), and waist circumference significantly decreased post-intervention (p < 0.001). No significant changes were observed in body weight (p = 0.323), BMI (p = 0.314), random blood glucose (p = 0.116), total cholesterol (p = 0.105), and uric acid (p = 0.058) after the intervention. Although the intervention did not significantly affect body weight, BMI, or biochemical profiles, the use of WhatsApp is an effective tool in improving knowledge, attitude, and practice related to obesity, shifting the stages of behavioral changes, and reducing waist circumference.

Abstract

The GENTAS program (Gerakan Nusantara Tekan Angka Obesitas) recommends the use of the T plate model in one of its programs to reduce the prevalence of obesity. He purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education with T plate modeling on maternal knowledge about obesity diet. This study used a quasi-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, involving 18 mothers from RW 04,05, and 06 Harapan Mulya Village, Kemayoran District, Central Jakarta. Mothers' knowledge was measured using a questionnaire on obesity diet management knowledge given before and after education using the T-shaped Plate modeling. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Test technique with a p-value of 0.05. Data analysis using Jamovi 2.3.28 software. The results of the analysis using the Wilcoxon test obtained the t value on the obesity diet knowledge variable, both pre-test and post-test, with a p-value of 0.001 (p <0.05) and an effect size of -1.00.  This means that there is an effect of education with T plate modeling on obesity diet knowledge before and after intervention.
