Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perubahan suara dari kata-kata pinjaman dari bahasa Ingris ke bahasa Indonesia di ranah makanan dan minuman. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Terdapat 5 orang informan dalam penelitian ini, 1 orang informan sebagai informan utama dan 4 orang informan lainnya sebagai informan pendukung. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik interview, perekaman, dan observasi. Hasil dari data analisis menunjukkan jika dari 70 kata pinjaman dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia di ranah makanan dan minuman, ada 40 kata yang mengalami proses perubahan suara. 4 kata mengalami menjalani proses apocope, 3 kata menjalani proses cluster reduction, 6 kata menjalani proses epenthesis atau anaptyxis, 4 kata menjalani proses paragoge, 3 kata menjalani proses vowel breaking atau diphthongization, dan 20 kata menjalani proses monophthongization.Kata-kata kunci: perubahan bunyi, kata-kata pinjaman

Abstract

This research aimed at analyzing the perceptions and the implementation of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of teaching English to young learners by English Primary School Teachers in Klungkung. The research design was embedded mixed method design which interpreted dominantly qualitative. The research subjects were three different English Primary School Teachers in Klungkung. The result showed that there were gaps between teachers’ perceptions and implementation of pedagogical content knowledge. The final result of teachers’ perceptions categorized as high and qualified as strong, which is in interval 3.3335 ≤ M ≤ 4.0005. Meanwhile, the final result of teachers’ implementation categorized as very low and qualified as very weak, which is in interval 0.33 ≤ M ≤ 7.41. Some challenges were found as the causes of teachers’ very weak implementation of PCK. Besides, English teachers’ awareness to improve their practice quality regarding PCK of teaching English to young learners needs improving.

Abstract

Lesson plan is an essential part in teaching and learning process. Recently, the government was released the Circular Letter number 14 of 2019 regarding to the simplification of lesson plan. It announced that one-page lesson plan as the new lesson plan format used in Indonesia. The one-page lesson plan format is shorter than the previous lesson plan, where the teachers only required to fulfill 3 main components and the other components are belonging to non-compulsory components. One-page lesson plan has three principles, namely effective, efficient, and student-oriented. This study aims at analyzing the English teachers' perspectives toward the one-page lesson plan principles at SMKN 3 Singaraja. The study was designed with a case study qualitative approach. The data were gathered by conducting an in-depth interview with the teachers. The study was involved four English teachers at SMKN 3 Singaraja. This study shows all of the English teachers have the same perspectives on one-page lesson plan principles that one-page lesson plan is more effective, efficient, and student-oriented if compared to the previous lesson plan format. The findings of this study imply that one-page lesson plan format helps the teachers easier to design an efficient, effective and more student-oriented instruction.

Abstract

Literature reflects life and shares insights about human life. Holocaust literature focuses on sharing the dark experience of the German Nazis' occupation of Poland in the Second World War. This study aims to identify the representation of social issues in John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2006), one of the Holocaust novels that focuses on children’s experience of the Holocaust. The study employs the interactive qualitative data analysis from Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014), where the data analysis consists of three simultaneous processes of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. It reveals five major social issues included in the novel: the ethnocentric Nazi’s beliefs about German’s superiority, slavery, child labor, class difference, and marginalization toward women. The results imply that children’s literature can also present social issues that may raise awareness about the cruelty of the Holocaust.

Abstract

Pengungkapan kepribadian karakter utama dalam sebuah narasi mempengaruhi alur cerita dan bagaimana karakter utama mencapai tujuannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penokohan Merida sebagai pemeran utama wanita dalam film Disney Brave (2012). Dengan menerapkan analisis tekstual dari McKee (2003), penelitian ini menggunakan pembacaan dekat untuk mengidentifikasi penokohan Merida, sedangkan segmentasi plot dari Bordwell, Thompson & Smith (2017) digunakan untuk memecah narasi menjadi unit analisis untuk memudahkan pengumpulan data dan analisis data. Studi tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa Merida adalah seorang putri yang ceroboh, pemberontak namun pemberani. Dia kemudian belajar untuk bertanggung jawab sesuai dengan posisinya sebagai seorang putri dan cita-citanya sebagai pribadi. Jadi, sementara kecerobohan dan karakter pemberontak membawa masalah, ketika dia berani belajar untuk bertanggung jawab, dia bisa bangkit dari masalahnya dan menjadi orang yang lebih dewasa.

Abstract

Disney's 2020 live-action film Mulan is remade of the 1998’s cartoon version, with several changes, including the characterization of the main character. This study aims to investigate the characterization of Hua Mulan as the main female character in Disney's 2020 Live-Action Mulan. Using the qualitative interpretive method by Miles, Huberman, & Saldana (2014), the research was conducted in four simultaneous processes: data collection and condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. This research revealed that Mulan is a village girl who was reckless, brave, strong, and often acted like a boy. When Mulan grew up, she became a brave and tough person who made she could protect herself and her family. Moreover, it reflects Mulan's independence which is represented by her ability to survive and fight alone for the sake of her family and empire. Furthermore, Mulan also had an extraordinary "Chi" power that made her a strong warrior. Her family and society also respected Mulan for her honesty in revealing her mistakes. The depiction of Mulan, who has a masculine character, implies that Disney's 2020 live-action Mulan can be used as a role model by the audience in protecting and loving those around them.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi persepsi tentang kesulitan dosen Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang menggunakan E-learning Moodle Undiksha dalam mata kuliah pedagogi, literature, reading dan writing. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode mix dan lebih kepada pendekatan kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan kuisioner dan panduan interview saat pengumpulan data. Dosen Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris merupakan partisipan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukan ada enam masalah yang ditemui oleh dosen saat menggunakan E-learning Moodle Undiksha yang di kategorikan menjadi internal dan external. Kesulitan internal yang ditemui berupa tidak adanya fitur auto-refresh, konferensi video, pesan suara dan mengedit secara berkesinambungan. Sedangkan untuk halangan external diantaranya sikap buruk plagiarism dan partisipasi pasif dari mahasiswaAbstract: This research aimed to investigate the perceptions about challenges that are encountered by English Language Education lecturers using the Undiksha Moodle e-learning in pedagogy, literature, reading, and writing course. This study used an embedded mixed-method case study with qualitative dominant. Questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used by the researcher in collecting the data. The participants were the lecturers of English Language Education. The findings manifested that there were six challenges that were encountered by the lecturers during operating the Undiksha Moodle e-learning that could be categorized into internal and external. The internal challenges such as the absence of several features like auto-refresh, video conference, voice message recording, and editing synchronously. Abstract

Roald Dahl’s children’s literature usually depicts children as the protagonist and the grown-ups as the antagonist. This study aims to describe The Grand High Witch’s character as the main antagonist in Roald Dahl’s The Witches (1983). This study employs interactive qualitative analysis by Miles, Huberman and Saldaña which has 3 simultaneous processes; data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing/verifying. These 3 processes are conducted simultaneously in an interactive process which means these processes will be carried repeatedly. In the novel, The Grand High Witch was portrayed as having a scary face which she covered with a mask in order to be beautiful and accepted in society. The Grand High Witch’s cruel and cunning natures were influenced by her hatred towards children. She was portrayed as an antagonist character because her hatred led her to do bad things. Then society will construct a mindset that people only can be a bad person or kind person. Whereas, people are born with multidimensional characters. Thus, these characters could provide insight to children that people in society come with various kinds of traits.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims at analyzing the experienced English teachers’ perspectives on the fulfillment of one-page lesson plan principles at SMAN 1 Singaraja. The research design used a case study qualitative approach. The research subjects were 2 experienced English teachers. The data collection procedure used in this study was an in-depth interview. The instruments of data collection procedure used was interview guides. The results revealed that the experienced English teachers’ perspectives were positive as the teachers believed that the one-page lesson plan was more efficient, effective, and more student-oriented so that the teachers could make simple lesson plan easily. These results showed that the principles of developing the one-page lesson plan have been implemented well based on the Circular Letter Number 14 of 2019 concerning Simplification of the Lesson Plan. Besides, the policy on the simplification of lesson plan needs to be maintained as it gains positive responses from the experienced English teachers. Keywords: perspectives, one-page lesson plan princples, experienced teachers Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perspektif guru bahasa Inggris berpengalaman tentang pemenuhan prinsip RPP satu halaman di SMAN 1 Singaraja. Desain penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Subjek penelitian adalah 2 orang guru bahasa Inggris yang berpengalaman. Prosedur pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara mendalam. Instrumen prosedur pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa perspektif guru bahasa Inggris yang berpengalaman adalah positif karena guru tersebut meyakini bahwa RPP satu halaman lebih efisien, efektif, dan lebih berorientasi pada siswa sehingga guru tersebut dapat membuat RPP yang sederhana dengan mudah. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa prinsip-prinsip penyusunan RPP satu halaman telah dilaksanakan dengan baik sesuai dengan Surat Edaran Nomor 14 Tahun 2019 tentang Penyederhanaan Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). Selain itu, kebijakan penyederhanaan RPP ini perlu dipertahankan karena mendapat respon positif dari para guru bahasa Inggris yang berpengalaman. Abstract

Roald Dahl's novel Matilda features a child with a strong penchant for punishing adults. Using Erikson’s concept of children’s development, the present study aimed to explain why Matilda was described as a five-year-old girl to perform those punishments. Through textual analysis, the present study revealed that Matilda developed as a girl who administered punishments to adults around her as part of her development at the play age. At this age, a child learns to set specific goals and plan to achieve them. In the novel, this development is reflected in Matilda Wormwood’s goal to punish her father as described in chapters “The Hat and the Superglue,” “The Ghost,” and “The Platinum-Blonde Man.” Matilda’s punishments in this novel send a strong message to readers that parents should provide good examples and sufficient attention to their children when they start learning to set goals, especially when they are very intelligent and have strong potential like Matilda.
