Abstract

The songs Angeleyes (1979), Lay All Your Love on Me (1980), and Slipping Through My Fingers (1981) by ABBA are examined in this research. This study looks at how women are stereotypically portrayed in ABBA songs. This study examines how gender is portrayed in roles, particularly as it relates to women, using Linda Brannon's Gender Stereotype theory. Information is derived from many texts and the song's lyrics. The research's content is explained using a qualitative descriptive technique. The research's conclusions are based on the usage of the topic and style of the language of love, which employs metaphors in figurative language. It is from metaphorical language that the notion of love arises, symbolizing the characteristics of the feminine gender. The conversation that followed clarified that song lyrics are a form of poetry writing and that specific metaphorical language also has significance in how women are portrayed. According to the study, a song's content and lyrical style create stereotypes of women, creating a metaphorical figurative language. This use of metaphorical language gives the song's lyrics a meaning related to love. The song lyrics illustrate the virtues and faults of women by defining love in several ways. These items are all related to one another.

Abstract

Playing is essential for children. Thus, play-based learning has been argued to create engaging learning. Employing literature review research from George, this study aims to provide a comprehensive review of play-based learning, the types of play-based learning, and their strengths and weaknesses for language learning. The data sources were previous studies published from 2015-2020 in reputable international journals and accredited national journals indexed by Sinta and other relevant sources. Play-based learning can be categorized into three types: child-directed play that results in involuntary creative learning; teacher-directed play, which allows teachers to set up more structured plays; and mutually-directed play, which combines both types of play to provide maximum benefits for both teachers and children. It implies that teachers should select the type of play that suits the children's needs, situation, and learning objectives when choosing to implement play-based learning.

Abstract

Matilda is one of Roald Dahl's greatest works. In this novel, the titular character, Matilda, is described as a five-year-old girl Matilda with extraordinary ability, despite her unfavorable family. She was fortunate to meet a dedicated teacher, Miss Honey, who recognized her talents. The present study aimed at analyzing Roald Dahl’s novel entitled Matilda from feminist perspectives. This study focused on analyzing feminism represented in the novel’s intrinsic elements. The study employed close reading enriched with Rosemary Tong's elaboration on feminist perspectives. The analysis revealed that feminist ideologies are represented through the novel’s theme, setting, and characterizations of the major characters. The novel's theme represents feminist ideologies by presenting women against, abused, or embraced feminist ideologies. The socio-cultural setting of the novel further emphasized the oppression of women who wanted to be independent.  The depiction of feminism was strongly presented in the characterizations of Matilda and Miss Honey, who cooperated in fighting against their families' patriarchal treatment. These results imply that the novel is educative for children and young women to raise awareness about gender equality.

Abstract

The Ijuk Nganten tradition is a form of intangible cultural heritage that continues to be preserved by the people of Sraturejo Village, Baureno District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java. This ritual involves the symbolic cleansing of newlywed couples by washing their hands, faces, and feet at the sacred site known as Sumur Nganten (Bridal Well), followed by prayers for blessings, fertility, and household harmony. Although performed in a simple manner, the ritual holds deep cultural and spiritual meaning, rooted in local oral traditions and communal belief systems. This study employs the historical method, beginning with heuristic investigation through data collection from local oral sources—including village elders and cultural custodians—as well as limited written documents and popular media. The gathered sources were then subjected to source criticism, interpretative analysis, and synthesized through historiographical construction to explore the socio-cultural and historical functions of the ritual. The findings suggest that Ijuk Nganten originated from a collective memory involving the legendary figure Akuwu Lembu Amisena and his consort Nyi Lebdasari, who underwent ritual purification at the site after reclaiming political authority during the Singhasari–Majapahit era. Today, the tradition serves not only a spiritual purpose but also reinforces environmental ethics, ancestral veneration, and communal identity. It remains a vital cultural expression, consistently practiced even by residents who have migrated outside the region, demonstrating its enduring significance amid social transformation.

Abstract

Language ideologies play a decisive role in shaping language policy, influencing national identity, education, minority language preservation, globalization, and systemic inequalities. This narrative review examines how ideological frameworks inform policy development across diverse contexts. Using Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, relevant studies were identified through strategic keyword searches and evaluated based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis shows that national language policies often embody ideological commitments to unity and global competitiveness, privileging dominant or colonial languages at the expense of minority tongues. In education, policies prioritizing global languages like English can hinder equitable learning outcomes, while mother-tongue based multilingual education demonstrates significant benefits for comprehension, retention, and cultural identity. Revitalization programs in regions such as New Zealand and Latin America highlight how positive ideologies and community ownership foster minority language survival. Globalization and neoliberal ideologies further commodify language, framing it as human capital and reinforcing hierarchies that marginalize local languages. Critical studies reveal how hegemonic languages perpetuate inequality, particularly in academic and professional domains. Systemic governance factors mediate these outcomes, with decentralized and participatory models enabling more inclusive policies. Despite these insights, existing literature shows regional, methodological, and theoretical limitations, underscoring the need for broader comparative and interdisciplinary research. Overall, balancing global participation with local linguistic identities remains urgent. Sustainable reforms must prioritize multilingual education, inclusive governance, and community engagement to promote linguistic justice and cultural diversity.

Abstract

The preservation of cultural heritage has become increasingly reliant on Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies, reflecting a global shift toward technology-driven conservation strategies. This narrative review synthesizes evidence from diverse academic sources to examine how AI is being applied to safeguard both tangible and intangible heritage. Literature searches were conducted using Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, employing keywords such as “Artificial Intelligence,” “cultural heritage preservation,” “digital archiving,” and “machine learning.” Studies were screened based on inclusion criteria emphasizing empirical research, case studies, and reviews published within the last decade. Results reveal four dominant themes: tangible heritage conservation, intangible heritage preservation, environmental monitoring and risk management, and museum and archive engagement. AI has demonstrated strong potential in artifact restoration, predictive maintenance, and revitalization of traditional practices through immersive technologies. However, systemic barriers, including limited financial resources, fragmented governance, and lack of standardized ethical frameworks, hinder its broader adoption. Ethical challenges, particularly concerning cultural representation, data privacy, and inclusivity, further complicate implementation. Innovative solutions such as public-private partnerships, community-driven digitization, and interdisciplinary collaborations present promising pathways forward. The findings highlight both the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into heritage preservation and emphasize the need for urgent, coordinated strategies to enhance cultural sustainability. This study contributes to the discourse by underscoring the dual imperative of advancing technological adoption while ensuring cultural sensitivity and inclusivity.

Abstract

The digital reinterpretation of Batik, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage, presents both opportunities and ethical challenges. This study explores the boundaries of cultural remixing through a mixed-methods approach combining user experience (UX) testing, qualitative interviews, and legal-normative analysis. Forty illustrators participated in a task-based UX experiment to assess perceptions of usability, aesthetic value, and ethical alignment when reimagining Batik motifs. Senior illustrators exhibited higher ethical sensitivity and design fidelity, as confirmed by ANOVA. Stakeholder interviews with artisans, curators, and designers revealed themes emphasizing respect for pakem (traditional rules), the importance of community participation, and risks of symbolic dilution. Legal analysis of Indonesian Copyright Law and UNESCO ICH guidelines highlighted gaps in enforcement and the need for soft-law instruments such as ethical toolkits and participatory protocols. Findings suggest that responsible innovation requires integrated frameworks combining legal, educational, technological, and participatory strategies. A Digital Ethics Toolkit is proposed to support designers in navigating cultural representation responsibly. This toolkit includes a pakem rubric, attribution checklist, AI output review system, and co-design templates. The study concludes that safeguarding heritage in digital contexts must involve collaborative stewardship, where ethical awareness and cultural dialogue shape innovation.

Abstract

The 21st century has brought technology that connects people around the world, creating the necessity for bilingualism to facilitate international and intercultural communications created from the global interactions. Yet, there are still disputes on the benefits of bilingualism beyond communications and the need for achievement in language learning. Thus, the present study aimed to review previous studies on bilingualism and provide a comprehensive summary on the benefits of bilingualism. The study employed a model of library research from George (2008), where previous studies on bilingualism selected following certain criteria were then critically reviewed to synthesize their arguments on the benefits of bilingualism. The review revealed that bilingualism can benefit students’ cognitive development, problem-solving, communicative competence, academic performance, and cultural awareness. Additionally, bilingualism is also argued to provide health benefits because it can maintain brain functioning and delay degenerative cognitive function diseases, such as dementia and Alzheimer. Thus, being bilingual contributes to the development of students’ 21st Century skills.

Abstract

YouTube has become one of the most visited social media globally. Its saturation in students' lives has triggered experiments and observations on the use of YouTube as learning media. This article discusses the use of YouTube videos to teach English language skills using George's literature review model. The databases for selecting the articles used as the data source in this study were Google scholar and ERIC. The relevant articles were published in reputable international journals and nationally accredited journals in the past ten years. Studies on the use of YouTube videos as a teaching medium indicate that using YouTube videos can improve students' listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills and solve their problems in mastering the skills. Furthermore, YouTube videos have been proven to help students solve their grammar difficulties and increase their vocabulary. YouTube videos are also agreed to have kept the students more interested, motivated, and enthusiastic towards English language learning. These results imply that relevant YouTube videos can provide good learning media for supporting students' learning of English as a Foreign Language.
