Abstract

This study deals with feminism perspective based on novel. The author is also woman, namely Fira Basuki. The novel tells us about the relationship of women and men with conflicts and love. The problem is how about the language changing in that novel that influences feminism perspective. The objective of this study is to find out about the language changing in that novel with variation language. The study used qualitative method. The data was the dialogues some characters in that novel that use Indonesian language. The researcher found three changes and variation of languages in that novel. They are Indonesian language that change into slang, Indonesian language that change into foreign language, and Indonesian language that change into local language. So the conclusion of this study is in this modern era, the woman tends to use the variation of language to maintain their existences in the society.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbentuk Blog yang diperoleh dari materi, Latihan 6 Tugas KKNI serta tulisan dari Laerning Logs. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester pertama Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris stambuk 2017 yang baru menerima 6 penugasan KKNI. Waktu penelitian adalah bulan Mei sampai bulan November 2017. Penelitian menggunakan desain Penelitian dan Pengembangan atau R & D. Instrumen dari penelitian ini adalah observasi di kelas kuesioner untuk mahasiswa kelas A dan wawancara untuk dosen yang mengampu mata kuliah Paragraph Writing. Data dianalis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Produk media divalidasi oleh 2 orang validator untuk isi blog dan 2 orang validator untuk tampilan visual blog. Hasilnya menunjukan ada perbaikan yang harus dibenahi oleh peneliti sehingga menghasilkan produk media yang baik.

Abstract

Writing is one of skills in English and it’s important for students, also it is not an easy skill to master. As stated by Richards and Renandya (2002: 303), writing is the most difficult skill to master for second or foreign language students. Writing skills are placed in the last section after three skills namely listening, speaking, and reading. It can be said that students must apply everything they have in the previous three stages. This study aims to develop a writing assessment rubric for explanation text for eleventh grade, to assess student writing related to the availability of the 2013 Curriculum for English subjects in the school. This research is about how and why, which is the process of explanation text itself and at the same time can improve their writing skills. This research method uses research and development methods (R&D). It is hoped that by using reliable rubrics, teachers can easily assess the writing performance of their students who meet the requirements of the writing aspects.The expert gives some corrections and suggestions on the development writing assessment rubric. Based on the result of the writing assessment rubric, the average was 3,7 and the percentage was 93,7% that categorized in “Very Good” category. Keywords: Assessment Rubric, Students’ Explanation Text, Writing

Abstract

This research aims to develop the English writing materialsin Narrative text for the Eighth Grade Students of Junior High School by using picture series. This study was conducted using R & D method of Borg & Gall (2003). The research took place in SMP HKBP Pardamean Medan. The sample was the Eighth Grade Students that consisted of 29 students. The evaluators of the developed materials were two experts namely an English lecturer and an English teacher. There were some instruments that were applied in this study namely observation, questionnaire and interview. The finding of the study was the suitable English writing materials inNarrative text based on the students’ needs and level in SMP HKBP Pardamean Medan. The developed writing materials then were validated  by the experts and it got 4,20 based on the highest interval of numerical scale was 5,00. In the form of percentage, it got 84% so it was categorized as “very good”. Therefore, it can be concluded that the developed English writing materials in Narrative text are appropriate to students’ needs and level and interesting for them. Automatically, it can be used for the Eighth Grade Students of Junior High School in teaching-learning activity in the classroom toincrease the students’ ability in writing Narrative text and motivate them in learning writing especially in Narrative Text. Keywords: Writing, Narrative text, Picture series, Research and Development     ( R&D).

Abstract

This case study investigates the impact of blended learning on students' English writing skills, focusing on a group of third-semester students majoring in English Education. Blended learning, which combines traditional face-to-face instruction with online learning components, is explored as a pedagogical approach that enhances writing proficiency through increased engagement and personalized feedback. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 20 participants, revealing that a significant majority of students perceive blended learning as a motivating factor that fosters their writing development. The findings indicate that this approach not only improves grammar and overall writing skills but also provides ample opportunities for practice and constructive feedback, which are essential for skill enhancement. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of a supportive learning environment that encourages collaboration and community among students. The results advocate for the broader implementation of blended learning strategies in English writing instruction, emphasizing their potential to empower students and improve their language acquisition outcomes. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on effective teaching methodologies in language education and underscores the need for continuous adaptation and innovation in instructional practices.

Abstract

This study focuses on how digital media on teaching writing descriptive text are developed for junior high school. The study is aimed to develop a doratoon as digital media to teaching writing descriptive text for seventh grade students at MTSS Al-Washliyah Senayan, Kec. Sei Rampah. This research applied the Borg and Gall (2003) with some modifications, which was simplified into six stages to shorten time and cost. The data were obtained through an interview with an English teacher and distributing questionnaire to thirty students to get the students' needs analysis. Thirty students from clas7.1 served as the source of data. The findings revealed that both the interview and questionnaire results indicate that students need English teaching media that can motivate and interest them to understand descriptive text writing. The digital teaching media was validated by a lecturer from English education department and an English teacher from MTSS Al-Washliyah Senayan. The final product's result was videos containing audio-visual media to be used in teaching descriptive text writing. The result of the experts' validation showed that the media was an appropriate media to be used in teaching writing descriptive text by getting the average score percentage of 84% categorized as very good.

Abstract

This research examined the implementation of differentiated learning strategies in enhancing students' narrative writing skills at Class XI SMAS Pertiwi Medan. Using a qualitative approach with classroom observations and teacher interviews, the study investigated how differentiated learning affected students' writing development.The implementation focused on four key components: content adjustment through varied difficulty levels and materials, learning process variations using group discussions and peer tutoring, diverse product choices allowing students to create summaries, comics, videos, or drama performances, and creating a supportive learning environment. Students were grouped into three ability levels using fairy tales as learning materials. The findings revealed significant positive impacts: increased student motivation and engagement through autonomy and choice, improved narrative writing quality in structure and creativity, and enhanced student independence and confidence. However, implementation faced challenges including time limitations and resource constraints.The study concluded that differentiated learning effectively accommodated student diversity and significantly improved narrative writing skills while fostering independence and confidence, despite implementation challenges. Abstract

This study explores the implementation of a Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) English training program for medical staff at RS Haji Medan, a government-owned hospital in North Sumatra, Indonesia, aiming for Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. Despite having strong infrastructure, the hospital faces challenges in English communication among staff, which is critical for serving international patients. The training program involved 15 doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, focusing on practical communication in clinical settings through simulations, problem-solving, and medical dialogues. At the end of the program, a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was administered to obtain students’ views on the task-based instruction. The survey data revealed positive responses regarding material relevance, teaching methods, instructor performance, and the usefulness of learning resources. Most participants reported improved English skills and greater confidence in medical communication. The findings highlight TBLT's effectiveness in meeting specific workplace needs and support its broader use in healthcare language training. This study contributes to the growing English for Specific Purposes (ESP) field in Indonesian medical contexts.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop Video Blog as Teaching Media for Students of Multimedia Programme. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D). Instruments for collecting data were syllabus, questionnaire and interview. The data was gathered by administering interview to the teacher and distributing questionnaires to the students. The result of this study was developed Video Blog which contained explanation, students’ activities and the example of report text in spoken.The average scores of media’s assesment were 4.04 from English teacher and 4.56 from English lecturer. It means the developed Video Blog as Teaching Media were categorized as very good or very appropriate for students of Multimedia Programme.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a Pop Up Book as learning media for teaching reading narrative text for tenth grade students at SMA Swasta Raksana Medan. The research method that used in this study was Research and Development (R&D). The subject of this study was tenth grade students of SMA Swasta Raksana Medan. Questionnare was administrated to the teacher and students to get information about students’ need, existing media. It was found that 79% students said that they were bored learning English in reading skill by using textbook. 89% student said that the media that the teacher used was uninteresting and didn’t make significant improvement. 91% student said that they need an interesting, creative, and innovative media. 89% student said that the media that have been designed was appropriate to use. The instrument of collecting the data used questionnaire to experts from English teacher and English Lectrurer. Research Procedures was modified into five steps, they were: evaluation and need analysis, media design, validation, revision and final product. The product has been validated by experts (material and media). The data are analyzed by using descriptive technique. The product has been validated by material expert and media expert. For the first expert the media was 83% valid in material aspect, and 90% valid in media aspect. While from the second expert the media was 95% valid in material aspect and 100% valid in media aspect. Based on the validation result, the media develop media was very good and appropriate to be used for teaching reading for the tenth grade students of SMA Swasta Raksana Medan.
