Abstract

ChatGPT said: The processes of irrigation and fertilization in agriculture are time-consuming and physically demanding, as farmers typically irrigate twice daily and fertilize every three to four days. These repetitive tasks can lead to fatigue and reduced efficiency. To address this, we have developed an automated system for irrigation and fertilization that enables farmers to manage these activities remotely via smartphone. The system utilizes a microcontroller programmed based on specific agricultural needs and connected to the internet through Wi-Fi. This connectivity allows farmers to activate irrigation or fertilization with a single tap on their smartphones, anytime and from anywhere. The system aims to increase efficiency, reduce labor, and provide a more cost-effective and precise method of managing agricultural land. By automating routine tasks, farmers can better allocate their time and energy while ensuring optimal crop growth. The final outcome of this research is expected to be applicable directly in the field, allowing for real-world testing and refinement. Furthermore, the findings will be shared through a scientific publication to support knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of spindle tilt and machining parameters (feed rate, depth of cut, and spindle speed) on surface roughness in milling operations using a Knuth UFM 2 universal milling machine. A parametric experimental approach was used, where parameters were varied systematically to assess their influence on surface quality. Results show that increasing spindle tilt, feed rate, and depth of cut generally raises surface roughness, while higher spindle speeds reduce it, producing smoother surfaces. The optimal surface quality was achieved during the first up-milling test with a spindle inclination of 30°, feed rate of 108 m/min, spindle speed of 720 rpm, and depth of cut of 0.50 mm, yielding a surface roughness (Ra) of 0.258 µm. In contrast, higher tilt angles and cutting loads significantly degraded surface finish, with roughness increasing by up to 95.91% when spindle tilt was raised from 30° to 60°, by 52.86% when depth of cut increased from 0.50 mm to 1.50 mm, and by 79.25% when feed rate rose from 45 m/min to 233 m/min. Conversely, increasing spindle speed from 148 rpm to 720 rpm reduced Ra by 99.81%. These findings highlight the importance of selecting appropriate parameter combinations to achieve precision, efficiency, and sustainability in milling. The results also provide practical reference for industrial applications and vocational training in manufacturing engineering.

Abstract

The use of Centrifuge Decanter as a waste treatment in industry has been widely used. Centrifuge Decanter separates waste in the form of a mixture of solids and liquids (slury) by utilizing the centrifugal force generated by the difference in the rotation of the tube (bowl) and screw conveyor. The rotation of the screw conveyor is reduced through a cycloidal gearbox. The shaft in the cycloid breaks during operation, for that it is necessary to conduct research to determine the cause of this shaft fracture. This research starts from a literature study that discusses the working mechanism of the decanter and the causes of the failure of the cycloidal gearbox shaft. For completeness of the analysis, data collection includes data on engine operation, physical and mechanical properties of the shaft material, fractography of the shaft and the stresses acting on the shaft. From the results of data analysis, it is known that the shaft has ductile fracture due to overload. The load that causes the shaft to break is the torsional load that comes from the rotation of the decanter tube at the initial start of the engine. Torque due to the rotation of the tube produces a shear stress that exceeds the yield stress of the shaft material plus a stress concentration factor in the fractured shaft fillet area.

Abstract

Occupational safety and health (K3) is very important to be applied in small and medium industries. In addition to reducing the risk of work accidents, the implementation of K3 can also provide benefits for the industry, such as increasing productivity, maintaining the quality of work results, and creating a safe and comfortable work environment. Kampar Village, Kampa District, has five MSMEs engaged in welding. Based on the survey, almost all of these MSMEs have not implemented the implementation of K3 properly, especially due to the lack of employee awareness in implementing safe work behavior. The lack of employee knowledge about the principles of K3 is also the cause of low concern for occupational safety. In addition, MSMEs have not provided complete personal protective equipment (PPE), so the risk of work accidents is higher. Therefore, training related to the implementation of K3 standards is needed to improve employee welfare while supporting the progress of MSMEs. This training is given to MSME owners in Kampar Village, Kampa District, so that they are able to implement K3 standards consistently and sustainably in welding business activities.

Abstract

This research aims to optimize the preventive maintenance system for CNC machines in the context of vocational education, with a focus on improving practice efficiency and reducing downtime. The study was conducted at Politeknik Kampar using a quantitative-descriptive approach integrated with a case study method. Quantitative data were obtained from machine performance logs, including total operating hours, number of breakdowns, and maintenance time before and after preventive maintenance implementation. Descriptive data were gathered through structured interviews and direct observation of CNC training sessions. The research focused on two types of machines, namely the CNC Milling HURCO VM 10 and the CNC Turning Center SKT 160A, which are intensively used in practical training activities. Prior to the implementation of the preventive maintenance protocol, the existing maintenance system was reactive and unscheduled, leading to frequent breakdowns and extended operational downtime. Following the implementation of the preventive maintenance program over a six week period, the frequency of machine breakdowns decreased by approximately 45%, and average downtime was reduced from 6.2 hours to 3.4 hours per week. Consequently, practice efficiency increased by about 28%, as reflected in the higher completion rate of student machining tasks within the allocated schedule. Student involvement in daily maintenance also contributed to building practical awareness of the importance of maintenance in industrial settings. The findings demonstrate that preventive maintenance not only enhances machine reliability but also strengthens vocational learning processes based on hands-on skills.
