Abstract

AbstractTanjung Kudu lake is an oxbow lake that receive water from the Kampar River during the rainy season. This lake is inhabited by many fish species. However, the information about the type of fish in that area is limited. To understand the types of fish present in the Tanjung Kudu lake, a study has been conducted in August to December 2020. Fish sampling were conducted every day for two weeks until there is no new species found. The fishes were captured using lures, nets and bamboo traps. Fish samples were then identified. Results shown that the caught fish consists of 3 orders, 9 families, 14 genera and 18 species. Among 18 species captured, 9 species were edible fishes and 9 species were ornamental-edible fishes. The water quality of the lake were as follows: temperature of 28oC-29oC, brightness of 45-55 cm, pH of 5-6, dissolved oxygen of 4-4.4 mg/L and carbondioxide 6.18-8.21 mg/L.Keywords: Oxbow lake, Ornamental fish, Edible fishes, Ornamental-edible fishes

Abstract

AbstractThe Bunter Lake is an oxbow lake that receive water from the Kampar River during the rainy season. As the water flew to the lake, many types of fishes may be entered the lake. On the other hand, when there is no water input from the river, the fishes were trapped in the lake and fish catching activities conducted may affects the population of the fish in general. The presence of fish coming from the river and the fishing activities in the lake may affects the biodiversity of the fish in general. To understand the biodiversity of the fish in the lake during the rainy season, a study has been conducted on July to August 2021.  Samplings were conducted 6 times, 3 times during the rain/ flood and 3 times when there was no rain. The fish was captured using gillnet, 0.5 and 3 inch mesh size. The fish captured were identified. Results shown that there were 18 fish species that were belonged to 6 families. There were family Cyprinidae (Thynnichthys polylepis, T. thynnoides, Barbodes schwanenfeldi, Rasbora argyrotaeina, Barbichthys laevis, Osteochilus hasselti, Puntius bulu, Oxygaster anomarula, O. melanopleurus, Hampala macrolepidota dan Amblyrhynchichthys truncates), family Bagridae (Mystus nigriceps, M. nemurus), family Siluridae (Ompok hypophthalmus, Phalacronotus apogon), family Eleotridae (Oxyeleotris marmorata family Notopteridae (Notopteridae boornensis) The diversity index value (H') was 2.12, the dominance index (C) was 0.36 and the uniformity index (E) was 0.70. These data indicate that the diversity of fish in the Bunter Lake was   moderate. As the dominance index value (C) as well  the uniformity index value (E) were relatively low , the environmental condition of the lake is balance.     Keywords: oxbow lake, rainy season, fish capture, diversity index

Abstract

Sail River is one of the polluted rivers in Riau. A study on fish identification in that river has been conducted in 1981 (Hamidy and Alawi, 1991) and there were 54 species present. The environmental changing during these recent years, however, may affects the fish population in that river in general. To understand the fish type present in the Sail River nowadays, a study has been conducted in December 2014 - February 2015. The fish was sampled from 5 study sites, there were in the upstream of river, under the Imam Munandar bridge, under the Sail bridge, in the Lima Puluh District and in the river mouth of the river. The fish were caught using gill net, lure, and cash net. Fish species are identified based on Saanin (1986) and Kottelat et al. (1993). Results shown that the fish caught during the study were consisted of Cypriniformes (8 species), Osteoglosiformes (1 species), Siluiformes (2 species), Beloniformes (1 species), Cyprinodontiformes (1 species), and Perciformes (10 species). The most common genus was Cypriniformes and Perciformes, and they were captured mostly under the Imam Munandar bridge. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the fish species living in the Sail River has been significantly decreased during the last 25 years.Key word : Sail river, Pekanbaru, cypriniformes, perciformes, fish population decrement

Abstract

The water surface of the dam of the Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty of Riau University is almost covered by Pistia stratiotes and this condition may affect the availability of fish in that area. To understand the types of fish associated with that aquatic plant, a research has been conducted February to March 2017. Based on plant density, there were 3 sampling sites, site 1 (46.19 plants/m2), site 2 (14.6 plants/m2) and site 3 (52.31 plants/m2). A modified quadrant (2 x 2 m, completed with fish trapping net attached) was placed for an hour in each site. Samplings were conducted 4 times, once/week. Results shown that there is a relationship between the plant density and the number of fish as well as the types of fish present. As the density of the plant increase, the number and type of fish present was also increase. The types of fish present are as follows: Trichogaster trichopterus, T. pectoralis, Trichopsis vittata, Rasbora einthovenii, Oreochromis nilloticus, Xenentodon canciloides, and Channa striata. In the lower surface of the plant, there were fish eggs attached. Data obtained indicate that there were 7 fish species associated with P. stratiotes and the community of the plant may serves as hatchery of the associated fish. Keywords : The Dam of the Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty of Riau University, Aasosoation

Abstract

Abstract Pangasius hypophthalmus is a type of freshwater fish that inhabit the Sail River that is polluted and the Tapung Kiri River that has relatively good water quality. As the water quality in general affects the blood condition of the fish, it is predicted that blood condition of P. hypophthalmus from the Tapung Kiri River and the Sail River different. A research aims to understand blood condition of P.hypophthalmus from both areas has been conducted from February to March 2019. There are 12 fishes from the Tapung Kiri River and 12 fishes from the Sail River. The fish blood was taken and analyzed for erythrocytes and leukocytes content, hematocrite and leucocrite levels and types of leukocytes present. Results shown that the erythrocytes, leukocytes, hematocrite and leucocrite of fish from the Tapung Kiri River was 2.620.833 cells/mm3, 242.958 cells/mm3, 35,6% and 1,54% respectively. While those of the Sail River was 1.887.500 cells/mm3, 310.500 cells/mm3, 28,75% and 2,62%. In the fish from both areas, there were 5 types of white blood cells.  In the fish  from the Tapung Kiri River, there were lymphocytes 85,6%, monocytes 2,9%, thrombocytes 9,7%, eosinophils 0,8% and neutrophils 0,8% respectively. While those of the Sail River were lymphocytes 56,3%, monocytes 5%, thrombocytes 37,1%, eosinophils 0,8% and neutrophils 0,8%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the fish from the Tapung Kiri River is healthy while the fish from the Sail River is not healthy. Keywords: blood, erythrocytes, leukocytes, hematocrite and leucocrite

Abstract

AbstractPangasiushypophthalmus is nocturnal fish that grow well in dark condition. In dark condition however, phytoplankton may be none, the water become rich in organic materials and this condition is match for developing parasites and pathogen that negatively affect the fish.  Tounderstand the health status of the fish in general, the histologcal structure gill, kidney and liver was investigated. The results were then compared to those obtained from fish taken from the Siak River. The research was conducted on Agustus-Desember 2019. There were 4 treatments applied, namely control (natural photoperiod), 18G(18 hours dark ) and 24G (24 hours dark), 3 repetitions/ treatment. Parameters  measured were survival  rate and the histological structure (gills, kidneys and liver). Samples were fixed in 5% formalin and histologically processed and stained with Haematoxylin Eosin. Results shown that in general the histological structure (gill, kidney and liver) of the treated fish and the fish from the Siak River are not different. There were abnormalities in the gill, such as hyperplasia, hypertrophy, odema and necrosis.  Inthe all fish there are Dactylogyrus sp parasites that may caused the gill damage. The histological structure of kidney and liver are normal. Data obtained indicate that the damage of the gill may caused by the presence of the parasite and it is not affected by the manipulated photoperiod.           Keywords: Health Status, Siak River, Histological Structure, Dactylogyrus sp.
