Abstract

Reading is an activity with a purpose. Students may read in order to gain information or verify existing knowledge. They may also read for enjoyment or to analyze a writers‟ idea or writing style. One of important factors which contribute to the better reading comprehension is students‟ motivation in reading. Unfortunately, although reading is considered to be an important language skill, many students are not interested in reading because many teachers use monotonous reading activities. This paper focuses on analyzing the importance of using Word Web technique and highlighting the implementation the technique in teaching reading. Next the paper discusses the advantages and the classroom experience on the use of Word Webs Technique in teaching reading. The subjects are Second Semester of English Department Students. This study employed a qualitative research design and the data are collected through observation and questionnaire. Word webs technique have many positive advantages compared with another teaching technique. It is highly motivating, giving a sense of achievement in understanding further reading. Word Web technique makes the students use their prior knowledge and information to answer specific questions. With Word Webs Technique the process learning become more enjoyable and interesting. It is recommended for students to apply Word Webs Technique to get better reading ability.

Abstract

Graduates of the accounting vocational High School need mastery of English in order to have a competitive advantage and be ready to enter the world of work. However, so far, learning English in the Accounting class at SMK Negeri Temayang, Bojonegoro is still focused on general skills that are not in accordance with the needs of the world of work. As a result, students do not understand foreign terms contained in financial statements. This service activity aims to increase English vocabulary through crossword accounting puzzles in the form of games and designs. By actively engaging in crossword games and designing their own English puzzles for accounting using free online tools, students can enrich their English vocabulary in Accounting. At the end of this service activity, 16 accounting puzzles were produced that can be used as English learning media.

Abstract

Writing becomes one of the skills that must be learned by students because by writing they can convey ideas in addition to speaking in written form. This descriptive qualitative research aimed to find the generic structural constructs in the recount texts written by six students in class X IPS 1 at SMAN 1 Kalitidu. The research results indicated that four students mentioned the who, what, when, and where aspects of the orientation, while two students missed two of them. In terms of a series of events, four students wrote a sequence of events by stating the day, clock, and activity, whereas two students did not write the events chronologically. Finally, in the re-orientation part, to end their personal experience, three students wrote summaries, comments, and impressions, but the rest of the students did not. Accordingly, three out of six students composed good recount texts, but the others still needed improvement.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a worldwide medical problem and has majorly affected education. Thus, half way through the indeed semester of the scholastic year 2019/2020, learning strategies were conveyed through online learning. This new condition where right now the instructors and understudies are grappling with the thought, advancement, critical thinking aptitudes to usage and adjustment. Google classrooom and google meet as virtual learning platform are broadly utilized by instructors in educating and learning. Therefore, this study focused on exploring information related to undergraduate students’ perspective of virtual learning program amidst covid19 break. The implementation of the research is approximately three months using online questionnaires and interview to be used as data collection. The study involved 50 students of English Department at IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro. The data obtained showed that the majority of participants considered the use of Google classroom and google meet and Application in teaching and learning is effective and efficient virtual learning program. It also indicates that one of the constructive outcomes of virtual learning program activities is that such activities could fabricate students' innovativeness. Moreover, it shows that the pandemic circumstance was not a boundary to contributing emphatically to society. In addition, the obstacles were slow-speed internet access and students’ facilities during virtual learning.

Abstract

English literature plays an important role in language teaching at the university level, especially in the context of teaching English as a foreign language (EFL or English as a Foreign Language) for non-native English speakers such as students from the English Education Study Program. Even though, several studies have proven that literary works can improve students English skills (Novianti, 2016). So far, the lecture process for English Literature courses is carried out offline through face-to-face in class. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic has plagued Indonesia, especially in 2021, the English Literature course at IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro must be designed online using the Moodle platform. The research method used is descriptive. Data obtained are qualitative data. The data collected in this study include information data about the condition of students viewed from the qualitative aspect. With a focus on evaluating MOODLE-based online learning for teaching English Literature courses, this study presents the difficulties and strategies faced by lecturers and students involved in online English Literature lectures, as well as evaluating student difficulties in completing the final project in the form of monologue video. The use of LMS Moodle as a platform in teaching English Literature brings positive results. Moodle gives ease and assists the students difficulties in doing monologue performance videos as their final project of English Literature. In the end, this research is expected to be able to contribute in the form of presenting an online learning model for English Literature. English literature memegang peranan penting dalam pengajaran bahasa di tingkat universitas, terutama dalam konteks pengajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing (EFL atau English as a Foreign Language) bagi penutur bahasa Inggris non-pribumi seperti mahasiswa dari Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Padahal, beberapa penelitian telah membuktikan bahwa karya sastra mampu meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa (Novianti, 2016). Selama ini proses perkuliahan untuk mata kuliah English literature dilakukan secara offline melalui tatap muka di kelas. Namun sejak pandemi Covid-19 melanda Indonesia khususnya pada tahun 2021, maka mata kuliah English literature di IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro harus didesain secara online menggunakan platform MOODLE. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif. Data yang diperoleh adalah data kualitatif. Data yang dikumpulkan dalam penelitian ini meliputi data informasi tentang kondisi siswa dilihat dari aspek kualitatif. Dengan fokus mengevaluasi pembelajaran online berbasis MOODLE untuk pengajaran mata kuliah Sastra Inggris, penelitian ini menyajikan kesulitan dan strategi yang dihadapi oleh dosen dan mahasiswa yang terlibat dalam perkuliahan English literature online, serta mengevaluasi kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tugas akhir berupa video monolog. Penggunaan LMS MOODLE sebagai platform dalam pengajaran English literature membawa hasil yang positif. MOODLE memberikan kemudahan dan membantu kesulitan mahasiswa dalam mengerjakan video performance monolog sebagai tugas akhir mereka. Pada akhirnya, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi berupa penyajian model pembelajaran Sastra Inggris secara online.

Abstract

Online learning is a new policy from the minister of education and culture in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. It is the first time for english students in IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro do the online learning in speaking class. Speaking is one of the important skills learned in english language. In this era the technology is developing rapidly. Many applications that can support online learning, One of them is whatsapp. Whatsapp is a simple, secure, and reliable messaging application. This research discuss about students’ perception on the use of whatsapp group in speaking class. The study aim to find out english students perception on the use of whatsapp group in speaking class and to find out english students challenges on the use of whatsapp group in speaking class. This research includes qualitative research with descriptive qualitative. The participant of this research was 35 students of the thirth semester of English Education Department academic year of 2020/2021 in IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro. The techniques of collecting data are interview, questionnaire and documentation. In this research researcher analyzed data by data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions. The result show that students perception on the use of whatsapp group in speaking class is less interesting and less effective. Their challenges on the use of whatsapp group are internet connection, feeling bored and lazy, difficult to understand the materials and the time is not according to the schedule. online learning using whatsapp group in speaking class needs more interesting learning activity.

Abstract

Abstract: Listening is related to the ability of vocabulary because by having and memorizing many vocabularies, listening comprehension will also increase. Therefore, the writer wants to increase the students’ listening comprehension and vocabulary mastery through the metacognitive strategies. This study has three objectives: (1) to find out how is the implementation of metacognitive strategies in listening comprehension skill (2) to find out in what ways do metacognitive strategies enhance students listening comprehension and vocabulary mastery (3) to describe the barriers found in the implementation of metacognitive strategies in listening comprehension skill. This research is qualitative research in the form of case study. The subject of this study was students of class XI IPA. Data collection is taken through observation and interview. Data is analyzed by reducing the data, display the data, and draw a conclusion. The result of the research is students of XI IPA Putri SMA Terpadu Al-Ishlah Prambon is helped in listening comprehension learning and they can improve their vocabulary using metacognitive strategies, because the metacognitive strategies deal with a plan, monitor and evaluate. Students become aware of the importance of what and how they learn and gain knowledge.

Abstract

Pendidikan jarak jauh di era pandemic ini mengharuskan guru menyiapkan media pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan sebagai alat pengganti tatap muka di kelas. Salah satu media yang dapat digunakan adalah video. Salah satu aplikasi gratis video interaktif pembelajaran bahasa secara online yang dapat digunakan adalah aplikasi edpuzzle dan audacity. Penggunaan kedua aplikasi tersebut masih sangatlah jarang sehingga mendorong Tim PkM untuk mengadakan pelatihan penggunaan kedua aplikasi tersebut secara daring kepada guru MTs. Darut Tauhid karena di sekolah ini belum pernah ada pelatihan terkait penggunaan kedua aplikasi tersebut. Diharapkan dengan adanya pelatihan ini, bapak ibi pengajar di sekolah sasaran dapat membuatv video pembeljaran yang menarik sebagai pengggant tatap muka di kelas. Pada pengabdian ini metode yang digunakan adalah 1) penyampaian materi dan pembimbingan,2) pembuatan video oleh pesertapelatihan 3) evaluasi kegiatan. Skema pengabdian dimulai dari langkah persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah interview, virtual workshop, dan dokumentasi. Dalam kegiatan ini dapat dilihat bahwa bapak ibu pengajar di sekolah ini dapat membuat video dengan menggunakan kedua aplikasi dalam virtual workshop. Abstract

Plastic is one of the many factors contributing to ecosystem destruction. Unfortunately, in today's era environmental awareness is still very low, and people tend to be indifferent to plastic waste around them. For that, we need a hotfix to fix the problem. New plastic bags can start to decompose for at least 20 years in the soil. If a plastic bag is in water, it will be even more difficult to decompose. (As’ari dkk, 2022). The purpose of this PKM is to increase the creativity of handicrafts in PKK cadres by utilizing used plastic bags waste to make various types of beautiful flowers that have economic and selling value. The method used is lecturing, socializing, and demonstrating. This PKM activity was held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 in Kedaton village. The result of this PKM activity is that PKK women can make handicraft products in the form of beautiful flowers from used plastic bag waste that has economic and selling value. The use of used goods can slightly reduce plastic waste in the community. By processing plastic waste, it can increase creativity and income for mothers because it can create business opportunities. There are also other benefits of processing plastic waste, it can beautify the room, no need to buy flowers, no need to spend a lot of money. The creativity of using used plastic bags in various crafts is a good solution for turning used plastic bags into useful items again. The knowledge and skills gained from this PKM activity are expected to be a provision for entrepreneurship participants through products with plastic-based materials in the field of creative crafts which can be sold and can improve the community's economy.
