Abstract

This research aims to explain the purpose of China’s decision to deploy the HYSY 981 oil rig on the contested waters of the Paracel Islands on 2014, using qualitative research methods. The theoretical framework used in this research consists of geopolitics theory and the concept of power projection. Policies are made to fulfill a state’s goal in accordance to Geopolitics, which is territorial expansion. To achieve this, China made a policy to project their power towards the Paracel Islands. However, China faces sustainability issues. This research then concludes that China’s purpose behind their decision on placing the HYSY 981 rig on the contested waters is to establish a reliable energy field for their power projection in the Paracels. The establishment of a reliable energy field would solve the sustainability issue that China is facing in projecting their military power towards the Paracel Islands. Abstract

United States has decided to cut off military aid to Egypt in 2013. The decision was made due to Egypt’s political unstably that disgrace democratic and human rights values. Despite the fact that Egypt’s domestic situation remained unstable, United States immediately decided to restore the aforementioned military aid to Egypt in 2014-2015. Reasons behind United States’ military aid restoration in 2014-2015 will be explained by applying Neoclassical Realism theory in this research. Based on the applied theory, some findings appeared that the policy to restore military aid are dependent on two reasons. First, systemic stimuli in form of threats arise in international structure. Second, domestic factors such as leader, domestic institution, state-society relations, and strategic culture are the basis of United States to set a policy to counter the systemic stimuli. This research applies qualitative descriptive method. Keywords: United States of America, military aid, aid restoration policy, Neoclassical Realism

The plan to ratify the new Criminal Code in Indonesia is responded by Australia through issuing a travel advice policy in 2019. There has a concern that this policy will have an impact on the tourism sector in Indonesia, especially Bali, because the Australian tourists are recorded as dominating the visits. By using the concept of travel advice and foreign policy, this study aimed to analyze the travel advice policy issued by Australia from the perspective of International Relations and its impact on the tourism in Bali. This study used qualitative descriptive method and the primary data collection was done through interviews with the hoteliers in Bali and Australian tourists visiting Bali. From the perspective of International Relations, it is found that Australia’s travel advice is a foreign policy that has a purpose based on Australia’s national interests. The Australian tourists' have their own opinion about Bali and the decisions to visit affected by the clarity information from targeted state or destination.

Abstract

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic fair trade is thought to be a trading plan that can aid economic recovery. Companies that conduct fair trade schemes, on the other hand, face hurdles as a result of the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic. The East Bali Cashews (EBC) company, which offers fair trade for cashew nuts as a major commodity in Ban village, Karangasem, is highlighted in this study. This study seeks to explain the role of corporation as non-state actor in international trade by adopting a pluralist approach and the concept of fair trade. The study compares the implementation of fair trade by EBC during the COVID-19 pandemic with before the pandemic using a comparative qualitative method with primary data obtained through in-depth interviews. This study is significant in examining the critical role of corporation as primary actor in fair trade schemes that directly affect cashew farmers as small producers. In order to advance the welfare of farmers and cashew as a promising commodity for Ban Village's development.
