Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

An experiment to study the effect of water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.) application and N, P, K fertilizer on growth and yield of rice was carried out on inceptisol soil at Mojosari Research Farm, Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia, ± 100 m asl, from December 2007 to April 2008. The experiment was arranged in a Split Plot Design with three replications. Water lettuce application as main plot consisted of four treatments, they are: without water lettuce, water lettuce planted in the rice plot, water lettuce incorporated in the soil, and water lettuce applied as compost. Three dosages of N-P2O5 -K2O fertilizer as sub plot consisted of 135-27-30, 101.25-20.25-22.5, and 67.5-13.5-15 kg ha-1. The results showed that the application of 135-27- 30 or 101.25-20.25-22.5 kg N-P2O5 -K2O ha-1 and the application of water lettuce did not signifi cantly affect rice yields. The combination of 135-27-30 or 135-27-30 kg N-P2O5 -K2O of ha-1 and 3 ton water lettuce compost ha-1 increased the growth of rice at 30 days after sowing. Application of water lettuce did not interact with N, P and K fertilizer application in affecting rice yield components. Keywords: fertilizer, low external input, rice, water lettuce

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, primarily caused by chronic nutritional deficiencies during the first 1,000 days of life. The development of functional foods rich in protein, essential fatty acids, calcium, and iron can help meet the nutritional needs of mothers and children. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional composition of cookies made from mocaf flour, moringa leaf flour, and lemuru fish flour as a functional food to support the nutritional requirements of pregnant women in efforts to prevent stunting. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with four treatments, namely P0 (100% mocaf), P1 (82% mocaf, 15% moringa, 3% lemuru), P2 (75% mocaf, 20% moringa, 5% lemuru), and P3 (68% mocaf, 25% moringa, 7% lemuru), each repeated four times. The analyzed parameters included protein, fat, calcium, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. Increasing the substitution of moringa and lemuru flours significantly enhanced the nutritional content of the cookies (p < 0.05), including protein, fat, calcium, iron, and omega-3 levels. The best formulation was obtained from cookies composed of 68% mocaf, 25% moringa leaf flour, and 7% lemuru fish flour (P3). This formulation contained 12.28% protein, 28.15% fat, 412.12 mg calcium, 2.99 mg iron, and 320.67 mg omega-3 per 100 g. The results of this study provide valuable insight into the utilization of mocaf, moringa leaves, and lemuru fish to support the nutritional needs of pregnant women and help reduce stunting prevalence in Indonesia.

Abstract

One of the Penataban farmer groups is the Cahaya Sentosa Farmers Group, established in 2010. This group has 43 members and focuses on food crops and horticulture. Improper post-harvest flower handling often causes flowers to wilt quickly and become easily damaged during storage and shipping, thus reducing market demand. Partners need assistance in implementing innovative post-harvest management practices to stabilize and consistently absorb the price of cut flowers and flower stubble from Penataban. Furthermore, limited promotional strategies are also a concern. Marketing has so far been conducted directly at markets and through Google Maps. This community service activity aims to improve farmers' post-harvest management skills to extend the shelf life of flowers. Furthermore, this activity also provided farmers with education on how to process flower harvest residue through a distillation process using essential oil distillation equipment. Through this innovative and educational approach, this activity successfully increased the capacity and welfare of members of the Cahaya Sentosa Farmers Group. The implementation of post-harvest Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for flower processing, taught through hands-on practice, has been proven to improve flower quality and durability. This has significant potential to expand market share and stabilize selling prices, eliminating farmers' dependence on specific sales moments. The introduction of essential oil distillation as a solution for flower waste management opens up significant product diversification opportunities. This innovation not only creates a new, more stable source of income but also aligns with the principles of a circular economy that transforms waste into products with economic value.
