Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze the ideology of myth in the equipments used in tingkeban ceremony by using the theory from Martin. The data of this research are taken from the Javanese Tingkeban ceremony presented in Desa Sei Buluh. This study is focused in the process and equipments used in tingkeban ceremony and then analyzing the myth with the meaning of each equipment. The writer conclude if there are 12 equipments which contain of myths and two rituals. Every equipment has its myth that have same purpose that is to throw away dangers of the children and the prospective mother. The ideology of myth in each procession and equipments related to the animism and dynamism belief system that roh (spirit) can benefit human life, as well as can asked for help for human life in this world, and belief that every object, plant or animal has magical powers that can disturb or protect humans. This research is related to the academic study of symbolism as guidance to live a new life in Javanese culture. That tingkeban ceremony is using a variety of tools and devices that are symbolized by jarwa dhosok which is a term in the traditional Javanese society. Tools and equipment are believed to mean more than just an object by its adherents.

Abstract

The study dealed with the taboo words used on Instagram video. The objectives of this study were to identify the types and the effect of taboo words uttered by tiur in his videos on Instagram. The sources of the data were taken from the videos of Tiur Anak Medan on Instagram. This is descriptive qualitative because this study focuses on the analysis of spoken language in social media. This study uses the theory of Batistella as the main theory which explain four types of taboo words, such as Epithets, Profanity, Obscenity and Vulgarity. After anylizing the data, there were 22 taboo words found in the videos. Ephitets was the most dominant taboo words found, then it was followed with obscenity which standed as the second types which the most found and the last vulgarity and profanity had the same number and the least found. Moreover, for the second analysis, It was found that the taboo words became the common words since they were used by the public figure. The taboo words were not the taboo anymore.

Abstract

This research dealt with ConversationalImplicature in Dialogue of Layar TerkembangNovel by Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana based on Grice’sTheory and it was aimed to finding out the types ofconversational implicature, and to describe whythe certain type of conversational implicaturebecomes dominant. This research was conductedby using descriptive qualitative method. Thesource of the data was taken from LayarTerkembang novel by Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana,Then the dialogue of the novel as the data for theresearch. The findings showed that there were twotypes of conversational implicature in theprocedures namely Generalized ConversationalImplicature belong to 33 utterances andParticularized Conversational Implicature belongto 36 utterances. So, the most dominant types ofconversational implicature between the maincharacters in the novel was particularizedconversational implicature because it morecontained ambiguity, implicit meaning, conveyedan additional meaning, and their response did notrelevant with every question and also it cannoteasily to understand what he/she was talkingabout
