Abstract

This quantitative study investigates the impact of Japanese Pop Culture (JPC) on the motivation and Japanese language skills of Japanese language study program students in Indonesia. This research is based on theories about the role of pop culture in foreign language learning, especially the role of JPC in students' interest in Japanese. Questionnaires related to interest in learning Japanese, motivation to learn Japanese, activities associated with JPC outside of lectures, and improving Japanese language skills were distributed to 70 Japanese language study program students from several universities in Indonesia. The results of data analysis show that JPC plays a big role in motivating students to study Japanese and improve their Japanese language skills. Based on the questionnaire results, all respondents were interested in and liked JPC. Over half of the respondents were JPC fans before becoming Japanese language study program students. Regarding motivation to study Japanese, as many as 63% of students were motivated to become students in the Japanese language study program because they liked JPC before. More than 80% of respondents carry out JPC activities by watching anime and listening to Japanese music. Half of the respondents stated that they could get to know Japan and understand Japanese people better by consuming JPC. In contrast, more than 80% of respondents felt benefits in increasing their ability and understanding of Japanese after consuming JPC. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as a basis or reference for further research on using JPC in Japanese language learning.

Abstract

This study contrasting hakobu verb in Japanese with membawa verb in Indonesian. Hakobu verb if translated into Indonesian can be interpreted as 'membawa'. However, hakobu verb does not always have the meaning ‘membawa’ when translated into Indonesian. This can cause errors when translating hakobu verb into Indonesian or vice versa. The purpose of this study is to find out the similarities and differences between hakobu verb in Japanese with membawa verb in Indonesian in order to anticipate errors in Japanese learners. The method used is descriptive contrastive analysis method in which data in the form of sentences are obtained from websites and e-books totaling 37 sentences. Based on the data analysis it can be concluded that there are 3 similarities and 2 differences between hakobu verb and membawa verb. The similarity between hakobu verb with membawa verb is both having the meaning of (1) transport, move using tools; (2) holding, lifting while walking; (3) putting on something while moving. While the difference between the hakobu verb with membawa verb is hakobu verb has the meaning of (1) to carry out, to do; (2) making progress, in progress, ongoing but membawa verb doesn't have that meaning. Another difference is membawa verb has the meaning of (1) invite out, to go together; (2) to bring about, to cause; (3) pull, involve, while hakobu verb doesn't have that meaning. The results of this study can provide input for Japanese language teaching in the future.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of different drying methods on the chemical composition, physicochemical characteristics, and pharmacokinetic properties of custard apple (Annona squamosa) leaf essential oils. The research also evaluates how these drying techniques influence the yield and quality of the oils, with particular emphasis on terpenoid content and their pharmacological relevance. Fresh custard apple leaves were subjected to four drying methods: shade drying, sun drying, oven drying at 45°C, and air conditioning (AC) drying at 20°C. Essential oils were extracted through steam distillation and analyzed using GC–MS to determine their chemical constituents. Various physicochemical parameters, including refractive index, specific gravity, acid value, and saponification value, were measured. Pharmacokinetic properties were assessed using the pkCSM online tool, while network visualization was performed via STRING.db. The drying methods significantly affected the essential oil yield, with oven drying producing the highest yield. Based on physicochemical analysis, shade drying resulted in the highest acid and ester values. The chemical profiles varied across treatments, with trans-β-caryophyllene, germacrene D, and α-humulene identified as the dominant compounds in all samples. Network pharmacology analysis indicated that CYP2C9 and CYP2C19 play critical roles in optimizing personalized therapy by minimizing adverse effects and enhancing drug efficacy across various diseases.
