Abstract

This study aims to find out whether the students at SMAN 16 Banda Aceh who are taught English vocabulary by using line Webtoon get higher score compared to those who are not taught by using line Webtoon. This research used a quantitative approach with pre-experimental design, one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this study were 20 of class XI (IPA), and the total sample was 20 students consisting of one class, consisting of 11 males and 9 females. The data was collected through tests, namely a multiple choice question test. The results of data analysis showed that the average pretest score of students was 38.00. While the average score of the students' post-test was 77.25. The increase obtained from the average score of the pre-test and post-test was 39.25. In addition, the SPSS results show that a significant value (sig-2 tailed) of 0.00 is less than 0.05 (0.000.05), which means that Ho is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between students who are taught vocabulary using the line Webtoon get a higher score than students who are not taught using the line Webtoon. It is concluded that line Webtoon has an effect on improving students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out if there is a positive correlation between students self-confidence and speaking ability. The students self-confidence was variable X and speaking ability was variable Y. This study was focused on the problems on the correlation between student self-confidence and speaking ability. This research was conducted based on the correlation research design. The participants of this study were students at SMAN 11 Banda Aceh. It was the eleven grade female students, which was from the class of XI IA3. This class consists of 30 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used two methods to collect the data of two variables. The instruments were a questionnaire and speaking test. The first instrument is a questionnaire, which contains 14 points. This questionnaire used to measure the level of students self-confidence. The second instrument is the speaking test. Oral proficiency scoring categories from Brown (2004) have been used as guidance to measure students' speaking ability by conducting “Invitation” as the topic. In analyzing the data, the researcher correlated the result of the questionnaire and the result of the speaking test by needing a partner to do conversation moment correlations. The result of research showed the students self-confidence and their speaking test is 1.00. This value shows the result of this study is 1,00 0,36 are included in the positive category. So Ha is higher than 0, 05. H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So there is a positive correlation between students’ self-confidence and their speaking ability of students SMAN 11 Banda Aceh

Abstract

EFL students often experience difficulties in writing coherent texts because of their limited understanding of English writing conventions. Many students have difficulty presenting and organizing ideas effectively, resulting in incoherent texts. These difficulties are also compounded by factors such as level of linguistic proficiency, learning methods, psychological factors, socio-cultural influences, and socio-political issues. This problem is likely widespread in EFL writing classes. The aim of this research is to explore strategies for fostering cohesion and coherence in EFL writing. The research method usesquantitative design with a survey approach.The population in this study was all students at school multiple linear regression, and t test for hypothesis testing. The research results show that the application of Simple View of Writing in EFL teaching significantly increases the cohesion and coherence of students' writing by focusing on comprehension and production of texts. This is important because coherence and cohesion ensure a clear flow in the writing, making it easier for readers to understand. Keywords: Cohesion, Coherence, EFL Writing, Simple View of Writing

Abstract

Abstract: Fisheries sector, where in Aceh is a considerable amount of natural resource, has become a significant economic contributor for fishermen in particular and people of the province of Aceh. More than 55% of Aceh’s population depends on it both directly and indirectly. Therefore, it should be a priority for development in the province of Aceh and develop a positive impact on the widespread economic development in the region. While recognizing its economic values, research on how lokal fishermen’s communities use marine conservation in TPI Lampulo Banda Aceh to improve their awareness of marine conservation and its use sustainably is still largely lacking. This study, hence, aims to shed lights what sort of lokal wisdom is employed by the community. The approach in the study was the whole fishing community at the surrounding of TPI Lampulo along with five seas and two village sets. The sample in this study was 20 people, 14 people were fishermen, 2 seamen, 1 sea marshal, 1 village secretary and 1 village chief. Data are gathered through interviews and observations. Research suggest that the lokal wisdom of the fishing community in TPI Lampulo on ocean conservation is among other things: firstly, Taking care of the coastal environment like the mangrove forest use. Next, Fishing techniques that do not damage the ecosystems around the ocean coast, and than, Rules enforcement. Finally, and customary witnesses for breaking those rules have been in place for a long time. All of those remains maintained by the people especially the fishing community in TPI Lampulo.Keywords: Lokal Culture; Sustainable Utilization; Marine Conservation.Abstrak: Provinsi Aceh merupakan salah satu provinsi yang memiliki potensi kekayaan sumber daya alam yang cukup besar terutama disektor perikanan. Sumber daya perikanan telah menjadi salah satu sektor andalan bagi nelayan dan masyarakat di provinsi Aceh. Lebih dari 55% penduduk Aceh tergantung pada sector ini baik langsung maupun tidak langsung, pengembangan sektor perikanan harus menjadi salah satu prioritas pembangunan di provinsi Aceh sehingga memberikan dampak positif bagi perkembangan ekonomi secara luas di kawasan ini. Permasalahan dasar dalam penelitian adalah’ bagaimana kearifan lokal masyarakat nelayan dalam upaya pemanfaatan konservasi laut di TPI Lampulo Banda Aceh dalam rangka meningkatkan bentuk kesadaran masyarakat nelayan terhadap menjaga konservasi laut dan pemanfaatannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk kearifan lokal. Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriftif. Yaitu dengan menggunakan metode observasi dan wawancara terhadap responden, sedangkan populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh masyarakat nelayan yang berada di TPI Lampulo beserta panglima laot dan dua perangkap Desa. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 20 orang yaitu 14 orang masyarakat nelayan, 2 orang pawang laut, 1 orang panglima laot, 1 orang sekretaris desa dan satu orang kepala desa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat kearifan lokal masyarakat nelayan di TPI Lampulo terhadap konservasi laut antara lain. Pertama, mengatur berbagai hal seperti pemanfatan hutan mangrove, selanjutnya, penangkapan ikan yang tidak boleh menganggu ekosistem di sekitar pesisir laut, berikutnya, aturan-aturan yang boleh dikerjakan dan ada aturan yang tidak boleh dikerjakan. Dan terakhir sangsi adat apabila ada yang melanggar, aturan-aturan tersebut sudah ditetapkan sejak lama. dan hingga saat ini masih dipertahankan oleh masyarakat khususnya masyarakat nelayan yang berada di TPI Lampulo.Kata Kunci: Kearifan Lokal; Pemanfaatan Berkelanjutan; Konservasi Laut.

Abstract

This research focuses on evaluating the writing skills of students majoring in English at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. It examines five key aspects of writing: content, organisation, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics. The main aim is to assess students' English proficiency, especially in recount text, based on these indicators, while identifying common challenges they face in the writing process. Using quantitative research methodology, this study involved participants who were in their third semester. Data was collected through writing tests administered to the students and analysed using Heaton's Writing Assessment Criteria. The results showed that 52% of the students scored excellent to very good in terms of content, while 57% scored similarly in terms of organisation. In addition, 70% of students scored excellent to very good in grammatical accuracy and 70% scored excellent to very good in vocabulary use. In terms of mechanics, 63% were also in the good to very good range. Despite these positive results, the study identified several problems that students face in their writing efforts. Firstly, there are challenges in developing ideas effectively. Secondly, although students demonstrated an adequate understanding of their topic, some students struggled to articulate their insights. Finally, the results of the analysis show that students do not have significant difficulties in using past tense structures.

Abstract

This research is aimed at improving the reading comprehension ability of Serambi Mekkah English students on narrative texts through DRTA (directed reading thinking activity). The strategy was conducted beyond the consideration of finding that the researcher found during the preliminary study. Many of the students at the university, especially the students of English department encountered problems in comprehending the texts or passages. It was found that students hardly understood the narrative text especially about factual detail, main idea, and word meaning. Therefore, researchers implemented the DRTA strategy. The researcher used collaborative classroom action research design. It was conducted in two cycles by following the procedures of action research, i.e., planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Each cycle was carried out two meetings of strategy implementation and one meeting for the test. The data of the study was gathered through observation sheet, students' observation sheet, reading comprehension test and questionnaire. The result of the research showed that the DRTA strategy has improved students reading comprehension. The improvement could be seen from the increase of the students' score in reading comprehension which reached the target score (70 in the range of 0 to 100), i.e., in preliminary the mean score was 6,42. Then the mean score increased to 6,96 in post-test cycle I. The mean score of the students proficiency improved to 8,33 in post-test cycle II. This evidence suggested that the students had already reached the intended target score, namely 7,00. It means that many students responded that the application of DRTA strategy was helpful to improve their reading skill, and the strategy was very good to improve the student's comprehension of main idea, factual detail and word meaning.

Abstract

Paraphrasing is the ability to restate an idea or phrase in a new form without changing its original meaning. This skill is particularly important in academic writing, where plagiarism is a common problem, especially in dissertations and scientific papers. The purpose of this research was to investigate the paraphrasing skills of English students at Serambi Mekkah University, Banda Aceh, and to identify the challenges they face in mastering this skill. Using a quantitative research approach, the study collected data by asking students to paraphrase sentences from essays that reflect the writer's perspective on certain topics. These essays were distributed via Google Forms to students on the English Education programme. The results showed a range of paraphrasing abilities among the students: 33% were excellent, 20% were good and 15% were fair. Conversely, 20% of the students had poor paraphrasing skills and 12% had significant difficulties. These findings highlight that paraphrasing is an essential academic skill, crucial for avoiding plagiarism and improving the quality of writing. The research underlines the importance of teaching students effective paraphrasing techniques to enable them to produce original work and adhere to ethical writing practices. It also provides valuable insights for educators, suggesting that targeted instruction in paraphrasing could help students improve their writing and reduce the risk of academic misconduct. By mastering paraphrasing, students can not only improve their academic performance, but also develop the critical thinking and language skills necessary for effective communication.

Abstract

Penelitian ini didasari dari permasalahan yang ditemui pada SD Negeri 60 Banda Aceh berkaitan dengan implementasi MBS masih belum sepenuhnya berjalan secara baik. Hal ini terlihat masih terdapat guru yang mengajar tidak linier, hasil belajar siswa yang belum memadai serta sarana prasarana belum semua terpenuhi dengan baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran kepala sekolah dalam implementasi manajemen berbasis sekolah (MBS) di SD Negeri 60 Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah kepala sekolah dan 9 orang guru. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi dan angket. Teknik pengolahan data menggunakan teknik yang dikemukakan oleh Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri dari Data Collection (Pengumpulan Data), Data Reduction (Reduksi Data), Data Display (Penyajian Data), dan Conclusion Drawing/Verification. Sedangkan untuk data observasi dan angket menggunakan rumus persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program MBS diterapkan dengan baik dengan memberdayakan seluruh potensi dan stakeholder sekolah. Peran kepala sekolah dalam konteks MBS adalah sebagai motor penggerak bagi kehidupan sekolah. Melalui Program MBS dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di SDN 60 Banda Aceh kepala sekolah memiliki beberapa peran, (1) sebagai Manajer, (2) sebagai Administrator, (3) sebagai Leader, (4) sebagai Edukator, dan (5) sebagai Supervisor. Hasil observasi, diketahui ada 38 atau 76% vasilitasi pendukung pelaksanaan Manajemen Berbasis Sekolah (MBS). Sedangkan hasil hitung data angket di peroleh nilai persentase keseluruhan yaitu 80% (kategoti sangat baik), maka secara umum dapat dinyatakan bahwa respon guru sangat baik terhadap peran kepala sekolah dalam implementasi manajemen berbasis sekolah(MBS)terhadap mutu pendidikan di SD Negeri 60 Banda Aceh. Faktor penghambat dalam penerapan MBS adalah komunikasi yang belum berjalan dengan baik di sekolah serta kurangnya sosialisasi untuk penerapan MBS, sedangkan faktor pendukung adalah peran aktif warga sekolah dalam pelaksanaan MBS, sehingga faktor pendukung sangat memberikan motivasi dan peranan guru dalam menyelenggarakan program MBS secara baik.

Abstract

Kinerja guru merupakan salah satu faktor yang penting bagi terselenggaranya pendidikan dan pembelajaran yang bermutu. Upaya perbaikan kinerja dipengaruhi beberapa faktor, diantaranya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah. Tujuan penulis untuk mengetahui gambaran kepemimpinan pendidikan kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru. Penelitian ini kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan analisis kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi dan kepustakaan. Hasil dari penelitian mengambarkan bahwa kinerja setiap orang dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor, diantaranya sebagai berikut: (1) Kompetensi Individu, (2) Dukungan Organisasi, (3) Dukungan Manajemen. Upaya kepala sekolah terhadap pembinaan kinerja guru meliputi tanggung jawab terhadap tugas, disiplin, dan komitmen.
