Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in enhancing students’ ability to write observational texts. The study employed an experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The population consisted of all seventh-grade students at MTs Daar Al Muhsinin Mekar Laras, totaling 40 students, divided into an experimental group and a control group. The sample was selected using simple random sampling. The instrument used was an essay test to assess students’ observational text writing ability. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and t-test analyses. The results revealed that the mean score of the experimental group was 87, while that of the control group was 73. The hypothesis testing indicated that the calculated t value was higher than the critical t value, showing a significant effect of the CTL model on students’ writing ability. Therefore, the CTL model is effective in improving students’ observational text writing skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of gamification-based puzzle media on students’ ability to analyze hikayat texts, particularly in understanding archaic diction, among tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Tinggi Raja. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population consisted of 52 students, with a sample of 40 students selected through simple random sampling. The participants were divided into an experimental class consisting of 20 students and a control class consisting of 20 students. Data were collected using a five-item essay test that had been validated through expert judgment. The results revealed that the mean score of the experimental class (89.75) was significantly higher than that of the control class (78.25). The results of the Liliefors normality test and Levene’s homogeneity test indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. Furthermore, the independent samples t-test showed that tcount  (3.74) was higher than ttable (2.024) at the significance level of α = 0.05. Therefore, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. The findings suggest that the integration of gamification elements, such as points, leveled challenges, and leaderboards, effectively transforms abstract classical literary materials into more concrete, interactive, and participatory learning experiences for vocational high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze humanism values contained in the novel Bandit-Bandit Berkelas by Tere Liye through a sociology of literature approach. Humanism values are a significant aspect in literary works as they reflect interpersonal relations within a social context. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, using Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory as the analytical framework for humanism values, and Ian Watt's sociology of literature theory to examine the social dimensions of the work. Data consisting of text excerpts containing humanism values were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed interpretively. The results indicate that the novel contains four humanism values: (1) cooperation, (2) willingness to sacrifice, (3) care for others, and (4) mutual assistance. These values reflect harmonious social relations among characters that are rich in humanitarian meaning, while also mirroring social realities as understood through the sociology of literature approach. These findings contribute to the development of value-based literary appreciation and can be utilized as Indonesian language learning materials at the secondary and tertiary levels.
