Abstract

Abstract Diversification of livelihoods that occur in the community triggers the emergence of stratification between professions. An increasingly modern era creates the character of a society that continues to want perfection in meeting the needs of their lives. People are competing to find income that suits their needs which are also getting bigger. As a result, people classify which professions are considered good to do, as well as professions that are not suitable to do. The world that continues to develop towards the era of industrialization encourages the development of typical industrial society. Starting from here then the job as a private employee and factory worker is seen as the most appropriate job for most people to do. This study aims to describe why many people consider that industrial work such as employees and factory workers is considered more prospective and profitable than non-industrial professions. This phenomenon will be examined using the theory of functional social change and social action theory. The result of this study is that the community considers the profession of industrial employees better than the non-industrial profession because the industrial community thinks that there are many advantages and advantages by working as an industrial employee. While the profession of entrepreneurship or other non-industrial jobs is considered to have many risks and uncertain benefits. This can actually be overcome by optimizing skilled and creative human resources in Indonesia.

Abstract

Housing needs in major cities in Indonesia are increasing due to urbanization. The solution taken by the government is to provide rental housing (rusunawa). Low income families who initially live in slums need some adaption when moving into the rusunawa. The purpose of this research is to analyze the socio-demographic relationships of families, social capital and subjective well-being (SWB). Using quantitative method and household survey, this study was conducted by giving questionnaires and interview to 90 residents of 396 rusunawa units. The study use regression analysis. Thus, the result shows that social capital, the social network, and trust, determine the SWB. If SWB is an indicator of the process of adaption of a person or family in a new place, in this study, we concluded that these two variables were very important for the resident. Using social networking and trust, these residents can adjust to a new housing milieu.
