Abstract

Indonesia's territory is located between two vast oceans, namely the Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as the two continents of Australia and the continent of Asia. As a result, Indonesia's regional climate is directly influenced by these geographical conditions. As is known, Indonesia experiences the Northwest Monsoon and Southeast Monsoon. The seasonal variations that occur include part of the aim of this research, namely to identify seasonal variations in sea surface anomalies (SLA) in three regions of Indonesia representing western, central and eastern waters using altimetry satellite image data. The coordinates of these three areas, namely, represent parts of the West Sumatra Sea (1°S – 3°S, 95°E – 100°E), Makassar Strait (5°S- 8°S, 119°E- 25°E), and the Banda Sea (5°S – 8°S, 125°E – 109°E). The data used for 30 years (1993-2022) is in the form of monthly average SLA data and processed using Panoply software to display the SLA distribution in each area as well as the SLA Time Series in the three regions. The research results show that the highest sea level rise occurred in area A (Western waters of Sumatra) with an SLA of 1.4 m with a rate of increase ranging from 0.5-1.4 m/year. In area B (Banda Sea), the SLA obtained is 1.2 m with an increase rate ranging from 0.7-1.2 m/year. Meanwhile in Area C (Makassar Strait) it is 1.3 m with an increase rate ranging from 0.7-1.3 m/year. Keywords: Sea Surfalce Height, Season variation, west, east, and middle region.

Abstract

Abstract

The coastal area of North Bengkulu often experiences abrasion and accretion processes, considering its location directly facing the vast waters of the Indian Ocean. This phenomenon can have an impact on changes in the coastline in the area. This study aims to identify changes in the coastline over time by utilizing multi-sensor satellite imagery from USGS. The focus is to measure changes in the distance of coastal areas in North Bengkulu Regency. Changes in the coastline in this area are calculated statistically using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). The results of the average calculation of the distance of changes in the coastline from 2014 to 2023 in North Bengkulu Regency are influenced by quite large abrasion and accretion of -20.31 meters and 21.6 meters. The impact of accretion shows a higher value than abrasion due to the addition of land (sedimentation) in a number of river estuaries in North Bengkulu Regency. Changes in the coastline are influenced by the dynamics of seasonal winds and sea waves due to the East and West Monsoons, impacting coastal settlements, infrastructure, and ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangrove forests

Abstract

Bengkulu Province, located on the west coast of Sumatra Island and facing directly onto the Indian Ocean, causes sea waves in Bengkulu Waters to be directly influenced by its geographical conditions. Sea waves in Bengkulu Waters vary due to the influence of monsoon winds and global climate. Seasonal variations in significant wave height (SWH) obtained from altimetry satellite imagery in five regions representing Bengkulu, namely Mukomuko Waters, North Bengkulu, Bengkulu City, Seluma, and Kaur can be used to monitor sea waves. The coordinates of the five regions representing Bengkulu Waters are as follows: Mukomuko is located at 2°40'20.82" S, 100°38'47.12" E; North Bengkulu at 3°20'6.55" S, 101°4'59.68" E; Bengkulu City is located at 4°0'7.57" S, 101°31'49.10" E; Seluma is located at 4°20'0.00"S, 102° 0'0.00"E; and Kaur is located at 5°0'59.65"S, 102°49'24.50"E. The data used for five years (2018-2022) is in the form of an average daily SWH every 3 hours and is processed using Panoply software to display the distribution of SWH and time series for each of the five regions in Bengkulu Waters. The results of the study show that the highest sea waves occurred in Kaur Waters, reaching 3.9 meters in August 2022 with an average wave height of 1.73 meters. Meanwhile, the lowest sea wave height occurred in Mukomuko Waters which reached 2.7 meters in January and February 2022, with an average wave height of 0.3 meters. Sea wave height in Mukomuko Waters, North Bengkulu Waters, Bengkulu City Waters, Seluma Waters, and Kaur Waters showed an increasing trend over the past five years. The relationship between significant wave height and season shows a consistent pattern.

Abstract

A study of wind patterns was conducted to minimize aircraft accidents at Fatmawati Soekarno Airport, Bengkulu City. The data was then processed using the Wrplot application to show the direction and difference in wind speed and create a wind pattern image in the form of a wind rose diagram. This study aims to analyze wind patterns and speeds at Fatmawati Soekarno Airport, Bengkulu City for a period of 5 years (2019-2023) using the Wind Rose method. Data obtained from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, Fatmawati Bengkulu Meteorology Station shows that the dominant wind direction comes from the Southeast, Northeast, and North which are influenced by seasonal changes. The results of the analysis show extreme wind speeds ranging from 2.50 - 4.70 m / s which are classified as light winds and are still safe for flight operations. With a deep understanding of this wind pattern, it is hoped that airport managers can optimize the use of runways and improve flight safety by accommodating weather conditions. The results of this study also emphasize the importance of consistent wind pattern monitoring to support risk management related to extreme weather.
