Abstract

The politeness strategy is a phenomenon of language that is based on the form and purpose of each of them. Politeness strategies are used to convey communication with meaning and purpose to be conveyed and interpreted properly.This study aimed to identify and analyze the politeness strategy used in the Pitch Perfect 2 Movie script. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach in research. And the movie script of Pitch Perfect 2 movie is used as a data source in this research. The theory in this research used by Brown and Levinson about the types of politeness strategies. The data politeness strategies were found in the movie script which were four main strategies: Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, Bald on Record, and Off-the Record.

Abstract

There are two objectives of the study the first one is to identify the main character development in the “Bohemian Rhapsody” movie. the second is to analyze characterization of the main character in “Bohemian Rhapsody” movie. The data of this study were taken from the movie entitled Bohemian Rhapsody. The data source in this study was take from the movie in the movie was analyzed descriptively based on the theory How To Analize Fiction proposed by William Kenney (1956). The main character development was analyzed into two categorizes which is simple(flat) character and complex(round) characters. The characterization of the main character was analyzed into three categorize which is physiological, sociological, and psychological dimension of the main characterization. The characterization of Freddie Mercury over all is that he is a kind person, humble, gentle and romantic person but in the middle of the story he changed into a bad person, ego and unfriendly person which make him a complex(round) character.

Abstract

This research analyzes the semiotic elements in SKIN1004 product advertisements, focusing on verbal and non-verbal signs in TEA-TRICA Purifying Toner, TEA-TRICA Relief Ampoule, and TEA-TRICA BHA Foam advertisements. This research seeks the hidden meaning conveyed in advertisements using Barthes's (1967)theory of meaning and Wierzbicka's (1996) color theory. The data was collected from SKIN 1004's official Instagram account. The results show that SKIN1004's advertisements use a combination of verbal cues, such as product names and text, as well as non-verbal cues, such as colors and design elements, to demonstrate product advantages and attract customers. They strategically symbolize purity, natural ingredients, and nature, the color green. This is in line with the brand image and function of the product.

Abstract

Literature indicates the appreciation of writing as fine art. Additionally, it alludes to the competition that presents arguments, analyzes, dramatizes, and communicates circumstances and feeling through stories. One example of literary work is a movie. The aim of this study was to find out the main character’s conflict in the movie the Protégé by analyzing the dialogues and scenes shown in the film. A qualitative method was used in this research. This study was focusing on describing the internal and external conflict. The data were collected by watching the film, understanding the substance, and correlating it to the subject. The result of this shows that the main character faced two types of conflict; external and internal conflict. The kind of external conflict faced by the main character is Man-against-Man which is Anna between Don Preda and Monsieur. The conflict ends in murder. The Internal conflict faced by the main character is sadness when she found out that Moody was passed away, someone who has been taking care of her since she was a child.
