<![CDATA[Translating a text could be done by those who have knowledge about the source language and the target language of a text. The fourth-semester students of STIBA Saraswati Denpasar can be also said to able to do a translation. For this research, the text about tourism is given, since they have already taken the English for tourism subject, and it is hoped that they will understand the special terms of tourism well. This research applied descriptive qualitative, using the data source from the translations of tourism text entitled “Strolling Relaxingly on the Shore of Kuta Beach, President Jokowi Assured that Bali is Safe to Visit” into Indonesian. The research focuses on finding the translation procedure conducted by the students in translating the text and analyzes the reason for applying those procedures by using the theory of translation procedures from Newmark (1988). The result of this research shows that there are three procedures applied mostly by the students in translating the text. First is naturalization because many words in the text were translated into the same terms in the source language, but they have changes in morphology form in the target language. Second is through translation because the students were likely to translate the text literarily following the structure of the sentences in the source text. Meanwhile, the other procedures applied were cultural equivalent, shift/transposition, and transference.]]>

<![CDATA[The study concerns with the slang word and that occur in the Fate of the Furious Movie. The study aims to analyze the types of slang, the meaning of slang and the function of slang used in Fate of the Furious movie. This study used qualitative approach and the data collection was based on observation method by downloading the movie and movie script, watching the movie, looking through the scene and taking note. The theory used in this study are based on Leech (1981) there are five types of function of language and Chapman (2007) states there are two kind of slang: primary slang and secondary slang. The meanings of slang were taken from some online dictionaries that related to slang. This study reveals that there are 25 slangs which is found in Fate of the Furious movie. From the data, there are 22 primary slangs and 3 secondary slangs found. The meaning of slang mostly related to informational function which is focused on the speaker tends to inform something to the other characters in the movie. <![CDATA[Abstract- This study has aims; (1) to classify the types of code switching found in Jika Kita Tak Pernah Jadi Apa-Apa novel and (2) to analyze the reasons. It used descriptive qualitative method in order to identify the data. The code switching was described according to theory proposed in Appel and Muysken (1987) namely to classify the types and the theory by Hoffman (1991) to describe the reasons. The result shows that all types with only 4 reasons for code switching were found in this novel types of code switching which is inter-sentential switching is the most dominant because Alvi looks more comfortable when using words, clauses and phrases in one sentence to convey motivational messages and from the result of the reason of code switching talking about a particular topic is dominant because Alvi Syahrin feels free and more comfortable to express his emotional feelings in a language that is not his everyday language.]]>

<![CDATA[This study applied the theory of contact language proposed by Romaine (1988) which distinguish three types of code-switching, namely tag switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential-switching in order to identify the utterances collected from the conversations of Manggarai people in Nusa Dua Bali. The data were collected through listening and recording, transcribed, analysed, before being discussed descriptively. <![CDATA[This study aimed at analyzing the occurrence of emotive function used in transcript of ten L’Oreal Paris advertisements videos. In addition, it also intended to analyze the elements of the sentence used to present emotive function in L’Oreal Paris advertisements. There were two theories applied in this study. The theory proposed by (Jakobson, 1980) applied to analyze the emotive function. Meanwhile, the theory proposed by (Quirk & Greenbaum, 1973) applied to analyze the elements of the sentence used to present emotive function in L’Oreal Paris advertisements. Observation method was applied in collecting the data of this study which was done by watching and note taking technique. In analyzing the data, descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods were applied. Formal and informal methods were also applied for presenting the findings. Based on the theories applied, there were 35 data of emotive function found in transcript of ten L’Oreal Paris advertisements videos which were presented with various combination of sentence elements.]]>

<![CDATA[Speech acts was a set of things we do when we speak and in performance an action through an utterances. Speech act not only found in daily conversation but also in literary work such as: Movie, novel and comic. This study concern with speech acts produced by the main character in comic. The aims of this study was to finding out the kind of speech act produced by Zuko as the main character in Avatar the Last Airbender: Smoke and Shadow comic. The data in this study was taken from the utterances of the main character and used theory of Speech acts proposed by Yule (1996) to analysing the kind of speech act. In collecting the data, observation method was applied in this study. The data was analysing used Descriptive qualitative method. In presenting the conclusion, formal and informal method was used in table and description form by using sentences. The finding of this study shows that, there were 20 data and four types of speech act found in Zuko utterances. Those four type of speech acts consist of 6 (30%) data of Representatives, 5 (25%) data of Expressive, 7 (35%) data of Directive, and 2 (10%) data of Commissive. Among the data, the most dominant of speech act found in Zuko utterances was Directive in making a command, because in the story he was the lord of fire nation which have role to commanding his subordinate to do something.]]>

<![CDATA[Kabupaten Badung adalah salah satu kabupaten di Bali yang penghasilan terbesarnya bersumber dari sektor pariwisata. Tempat wisata yang paling banyak diminati di Kabupaten Badung adalah pantai yang terletak di daerah Kuta. Banyaknya wisatawan yang memilih wisata pantai ketika berkunjung ke Bali mengharuskan pemerintah menjaga keamanan para wisatawan tersebut. Pengabdian masyarakat menyasar kelompok life guard di wilayah Kuta dengan jenis kegiatan adalah memberikan pelatihan Bahasa Inggris. Adapun tujuan dari kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris para life guard dalam memberikan pelayanan kepada wisatawan sehingga mereka dapat berkomunikasi secara aktif kepada wisatawan dan secara tidak langsung pelayanan keamanan yang diberikan dapat berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kunjungan wisatawan ke Bali. Dalam melaksanakan pelatihan, model pembelajaran langsung digunakan dengan teknik bermain peran dan demonstrasi. Selain itu tim pengabdian juga mempersiapkan modul pelatihan bahasa Inggris Komunikatif sesuai dengan kebutuhan kelompok life guard tersebut. Berdasarkan pengamatan selama kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan diperoleh beberapa hasil yang positif diantaranya adalah: 1) kelompok life guard menunjukkan sikap antusias yang tinggi selama pelatihan berlangsung; 2) Rasa percaya diri mereka dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris meningkat; 3) kombinasi modul dan model pembelajaran langsung yang digunakan memberikan dampak positif bagi penggunaan bahasa Inggris komunikatif kelompok life guard.]]>

<![CDATA[Pendampingan masyarakat di masa pandemi sangat diperlukan dari berbagai aspek, termasuk kesehatan, ekonomi dan sosial. Pelaksanaan nyata pendampingan dalam penganggulangan dampak sosial yang langsung menyasar masyarakat desa dapat menjadi kontribusi pihak perguruan tinggi, khususnya para tenaga pendidik yang mempunyai tanggung jawab melaksanakan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Pendampingan ini dilakukan oleh tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) Fakultas Bahasa Asing (FBA) Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar di Desa Adat Putung Duda Timur Kecamatan Selat Kabupaten Karangasem. Pendampingan dilakukan di masa awal pandemi Covid-19 dan dapat dilakukan pendampingan berkala melalui komunikasi antara tokoh masyarakat dan tim PkM. Pengabdian ini diwujudkan dengan melakukan langkah-langkah identifikasi keadaan sosial dan ekonomi masyarakat desa sehingga bantuan ekonomi dapat disalurkan dan pendampingan berupa ceramah tentang pencegahan merebaknya virus COVID-19 dari aspek sosial dapat dicegah. Metode yang diterapkan adalah pendampingan dipadukan dengan konsultasi sebagai dua cara mewujudkan program pengabdian ini. Masyarakat merasakan dampak langsung dari pendampingan tim PkM yang menyalurkan sembilan bahan pokok kepada warga desa dan mengadakan konsultasi mengenai cara memaksimalkan penerapan protokol kesehatan dalam tatanan sosial masyarakat desa selama masa pandemi.]]>

<![CDATA[Conversational implicatures is an important thing that need to be interpreted in a conversation to avoid misunderstanding between the speaker and hearer so that the goal of communication can be reached. This research focuses on analysing the types of flouting maxims used by the characters in science fiction movie entitled Ready Player One since it is important to make the conversation become more effective. The theory of cooperative principle proposed by Grice used to analyze the types of flouting maxims. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to describes the data in order to provide deep understanding about the types of flouting maxims used by the characters in the movie. The result of the research shows that there are 25 data of flouting maxim in Ready Player One movie. Flouting the maxim of quantity is the highest frequency of flouting maxim in this movie with 8 number of occurrence or 32% occurrence. Furthermore, flouting the maxim of relation and manner has the same frequency with 7 data or 28% occurrence. Flouting the maxim of quality is the lowest frequency of flouting maxim with 3 data or 12% occurrence.]]>

<![CDATA[Language is the primary media to communicate, and it can build the relationship with each other which has function to carry the meaning. This study concerns to analyze hyperbole found in Shawn Mendes song lyrics that were released in 2016. There are two problems that are formulated in this study, they are: (1) what are hyperbole found in Shawn Mendes song lyrics; (2) what are the meaning of hyperbole found in Shawn Mendes song lyrics, there are two theories used in this research the first theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963:367) that is used to identify hyperbole and the second theory is the theory of meaning which supported by Leech (1981) to analyze the meaning. The method used in collecting the data was done by formal and informal method. The writer collected the data by listening the songs, reading the scripts, underling, and classifying the lyrics which are contain one type of figurative language that is hyperbole. The data analyzed descriptively by using qualitative method. The total of hyperbole found in eight tittle of Shawn Mendes lyrics are 10 terms, the songs that most appear used of hyperbole is “lights on” which has three terms.]]>
