Abstract

Kaempferia galanga L. rhizome is used a traditional medicine and as seasoning. Kaempferia galanga L. rhizome has many bioactivies beneficial to antioxidant. Extraction of antioxidant by maceration method takes a long time and the extraction process is not perfect so ultrasonic assisted extraction (UAE) are used to accelerate the extraction process. The propose of the research is to extract antioxidant from Kaempferia galanga L. rhizome by UAE and to determinate the antioxidant content by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrilhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The optimum condition for extraction were 20 mL methanol as the solvent, the weight of sample 1,5 g, and extraction time 60 minutes. The total antioxidant content from Kaempferia galanga L. rhizome extraction by maceration and UAE were 0.6688 ± 0.02 and 0.8126 ± 0.02 mg/g DW. This study also validated the method of determining the total antioxidant content extracted with ultrasonic. The results of the method validation obtained linearity (r) = -0.9984, LoD value = 0.0283 mg/L, LoQ value = 0.0947 mg/L, precision (SDR = 1.97% and HORRAT = 0.96) and percent recovery 103.21%. Based on the method validation value, it can be said that the determination of the total antioxidant content in the kencur rhizome extracted with the help of UAE can be applied.

Abstract

Analysis of active compounds in fermented plant extract (FPE) from the ngapi nut peel using Effective Microorganism-4 (EM-4) has been done by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). There were 88 compounds found in fermented plant extract, the major content with the area above 1% were 7 compounds such as succinic acid; ethyl hydrogen succinate; 1,2,3-benzetriol; 3,3-dimethylhexanal; L-proline, 1-methyl-5-oxo-methyl ester; 3-methoxycinnamic acid and hexadecanoic acid. Based GC-MS analysis, fermented plant extract indicated that several compounds that have potential as biopesticides.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Canned sardines (Sardinella sp.) are very practical because they can be stored for a long time and can reduce contamination of bacteria and microorganisms from outside. However, direct contact with canned packaging for a long time can cause heavy metal contamination. Therefore, heavy metal concentrations of Pb and Cu from canned sardines (Sardinella sp.) were determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. Samples of canned sardines (Sardinella sp.) digested using a mixture of concentrated HNO3 and 15% H2O2 (3:1). The samples tested were canned sardines with a storage time of 36 months (A), 18 months (B) and 6 months (C) after production. The results of Pb metal analysis of canned sardines (Sardinella sp.) in samples A, B, and C were 0.807 mg/L; 0.512 mg/L; and 0.387 mg/L. The concentration of Pb metal obtained in all samples exceeded the threshold value set by BPOM, at 0.3 mg/L. The concentration of Cu in samples A, B, and C were 2.718 mg/L; 1.996 mg/L; and 1.240 mg/L respectively . The concentration of Cu in all samples was still below the limit set by BPOM at 5 mg/L. The t-test statistic showed that there were significant differences in the concentration of Pb and Cu metals for the three types of samples (t-count>t-table). It can be concluded that storage time affects the concentration of Pb and Cu metals in canned sardines (Sardinella sp.). The longer sardines were stored in cans, the Pb and Cu metal concentrations would increase.

Abstract

Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat, buah-buahan banyak dikemas dalam kaleng. Buah kemasan kaleng merupakan makanan yang sering dikonsumsi oleh manusia pada saat ini. Penyimpanan buah kemasan kaleng dalam waktu yang lama dapat menyebabkan terjadinya migrasi logam berat terhadap buah yang ada di dalam kemasan. Pada penelitian ini sampel yang digunakan yaitu 3 jenis buah-buahan dalam kemasan kaleng masing-masing dengan lama penyimpanan yang berbeda. Preparasi sampel dilakukan menggunakan metode destruksi basah dengan menambahkan campuran HNO3 pekat 65% dan H2O2 15% (3:1). Kandungan logam Fe, Zn, Pb, dan Cd dalam sampel ditentukan menggunakan metode Spektrofotometri Serapan Atom (SSA). Nilai Indeks Risiko Kesehatan (IRK) didapatkan dari hasil perhitungan Asupan Logam Harian (ALH) per dosis yang disarankan oleh WHO. Nilai ALH diperoleh dari perhitungan konsentrasi logam dengan SSA, faktor konversi, dan rata-rata asupan logam per berat badan manusia. Kadar logam berat di dalam ketiga jenis sampel secara umum diperoleh Fe>Zn>Pb>Cd. Konsentrasi logam berat berbanding lurus dengan lama produk disimpan dalam kemasan kaleng. Semakin lama produk disimpan maka konsentrasi logam yang diperoleh semakin tinggi. Nilai IRK yang diperoleh dari pengujian sampel untuk logam Cd yaitu >1 dapat diasumsikan adanya potensi risiko kesehatan, sedangkan untuk logam Pb, Fe, dan Zn <1 yang diasumsikan populasi dinyatakan aman. Nilai TIRK yang diperoleh dari penambahan nilai IRK logam Pb, Cd, Fe, dan Zn, didapatkan hasil dari setiap sampel >1 dapat dinyatakan bahwa sampel yang diuji memiliki potensi risiko kesehatan terhadap manusia. Penelitian lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk memperjelas hubungan antara kontaminasi buah oleh logam berat dari kemasan kaleng.

Abstract

The Qur'an Education Park (TPQ) and Tahzhul Qur'an House (RTQ) of the Raudhatul Adzkia Jorong Dalam Koto Nagari Koto Tangah, Tilatang Kamang, and District of Agam have been launched since 2015. The students who study here are free of charge. The operational costs of education and the honorarium for educators come from donations from their community and some nomads. However, this contribution is not sufficient for operational costs. The Department of Chemistry's community service team, Andalas University, collaborated with partners to start a business to solve this problem. The business was carried out using vacant land owned by partners for catfish cultivation. Surveys, program socialization and assisting activities were carried out online using virtual media, while Partners carried out the implementation in the field. Activities carried out were pond preparation, the release of catfish seeds, feeding, sorting, maintenance, harvesting, and marketing cultivated catfish. Based on the evaluation, 5000 seedlings from the released catfish developed well. About 99% of catfish typically growth to a large and even size, while the other 1% growth relatively slowly. Harvested catfish were sold for IDR 18,000/kg for wet fish and IDR 100,000/kg for dried fish. This business has been carried out sustainably by partners, and the profits have been used to support the operational costs of TPQ and RTQ Raudhatul Adzkia.

Abstract

Penelitian cangkang pensi (Corbicula moltkiana) sebagai penyerap zat warna metanil yellow telah dilakukan dengan sistem batch. Kondisi optimum penyerapan terjadi pada pH 4 dan konsentrasi awal 100 mg/L. Proses adsorpsi terjadi mengikuti model isoterm Langmuir dengan nilai R2 adalah 0,886 pada monolayer dengan kapasitas adsorpsi maksimum (qmax) diperoleh 2,591 mg/g. Hasil analisis gugus fungsi cangkang pensi dengan FTIR menunjukkan adanya interaksi antara molekul zat warna metanil yellow dan gugus fungsi. Analisis morfologi permukaan cangkang pensi menggunakan SEM menunjukkan bahwa pori-pori cangkang pensi telah diisi oleh molekul zat warna metanil yellow. Cangkang pensi dapat digunakan sebagai bahan penyerap zat warna metanil yellow di dalam larutan. ABSTRACTThe study of the Pensi Shell (Corbicula moltkiana) to adsorb metanil yellow (MY)dyes  has been investigated. This study was determined by batch system. The optimum conditions of metanil yellow dyes adsorption occurred at pH 4 and initial concentration 100 mg/L. The adsorption process was properly described by Langmuir isotherm model which was indicated by the value of R2=0,886. This confirmed that the adsorption process was monolayer with maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) was 2,591 mg/g. Functional groups analysis by FTIR showed the interactions MY molecule on pensi shell functional groups. Analysis of morphology surface of pensi shell by SEM indicated that the pore was filled by MY molecules. Pensi shell could be used as adsorbent of metanil yellow dyes in aqueous solution.

Abstract

The synthetic chemicals is a common substance used to extend the shelf life of postharvest fruit. But it can have health impact. The use of edible coatings from natural ingredients has begun to be developed. Modification of aloe vera gel by guava leaf extract as the edible coating to increase guava fruit shelf life has not been reported yet. Guava fruit coated by several compositions of aloe vera gel and guava leaf extract have been carried out. Observations on physichochemical in fruit on the days 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 were evaluated. The best quality found on guava fruit treated with the compotition of aloe vera gel:ethanol guava leaf extract: CMC:glycerol (90: 5:0.25: 0.5) on the day 15. It had a weight loss of 9.88%, a spoilage of 3.33%, the decrease of water content 11.61%, titratable acidity 0.5%, total antioxidant 1.08 mg AA/g FW, total phenolic 0.51 mg GAE/g FW, and increase of total dissolved solids 3.01 oBrix. This result was significantly better than the uncoated fruit. It can be concluded that guava leaf extract can be used to maintain the physicochemical properties during storage.

Abstract

The Community Service Team of the Chemistry Department has worked closely with the Taman Pendidikan Qur'an (TPQ) and Rumah Tahzhul Qur'an (RTQ) Raudhatul Adzkia Jorong Dalam Koto Nagari Koto Tangah in solving problems faced by partners. The pond catfish farming business supports smooth operational costs and has been running for over a year, but these results still need to be improved for TPQ and RTQ. This activity aims to develop a catfish farming business accompanied by an aquaponic cultivation business to increase income from TPQ and RTQ. The benefit of this activity is that the partners have an Aquaponics business which is cultivating catfish and vegetable plants in the fish pond. The Community Service Team transferred knowledge to partners, especially in cultivating aquaponic plants through entrepreneurship. The activities of the Community Service Team in helping partners are a form of the Andalas University Higher Education Tri Dharma. The method applied to support the realization of this community service program was through supervision, program socialization, and implementation of activities. The result of this activity was that partners could run an aquaponics business to increase income to meet the operational costs of education and teacher salaries.

Abstract

The formation of metal nanoparticles (silver, gold, platinum) by biological methods (green synthesis) has advantages over chemical and physical methods because it is easier, faster, simpler, and environmentally friendly. One of the substances used in this method is plant extracts. The presence of secondary metabolites that act as antioxidants such as phenolics and flavonoids play roles in the formation of silver nanoparticles. In this study, phytochemical screening was carried out from several herbal plants as bioreductors in the formation of silver nanoparticles, such as Phyllanthus buxifolius, Pachira aquatica, Peperomia pellucida, Ageratum conyzoides, and Piper crocatum leaf extracts. The total antioxidant content was determined using the modified phenanthroline method, and the total phenolic content determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The formation of silver nanoparticles was carried out by mixing silver nitrate solution with each plant extract. Colloidal silver nanoparticles formed were then measured for their absorption spectra. The results of the antioxidant content of the five consecutive samples were 26,90 ± 0,19; 26,09 ± 0,14; 18,25 ± 0,02; 42,76 ± 0,14; dan 30,94 ± 0,14 mg AA/g, while the total phenolic contents were 48,44 ± 0,45; 21,08 ± 0,92; 17,42 ± 0,27; 57,71 ± 0,47; dan 49,83 ± 0,60 mg GA/g. Silver nanoparticles mediated by Ageratum conyzoides leaf extracts provided the highest absorbance value compared to other plants. The antioxidants and phenolic contained in the extract acts as reducing agent from silver ions into silver nanoparticles.

Abstract

Chemistry is one of the subjects taught in State Senior High Schools (SMAN), especially in Natural Sciences (IPA). The problem with chemistry subjects is that it is difficult to practice in the laboratory because laboratory facilities such as space, equipment and chemicals are expensive. As a result, chemical laboratory practices were only sometimes carried out. Several lecturers and students from the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA Unand Kimia Unand, carried out service activities at SMAN 16 Padang through laboratory practice using materials and equipment that were cheap and readily available in the surrounding environment. This community service aims to train teachers and students to carry out chemistry practicums using simple materials and equipment available around them. The training was given to chemistry subject teachers and students in the science laboratory at SMAN 16 on 17 and 21 November 2022. The material was practised in oxidation and reduction (redox) and electrolysis reactions. The activity went smoothly; the students enthusiastically carried out the practicum. Through the results of this simple chemistry practicum, students can design and carry out chemical experiments using simple tools and materials, conduct direct observations of chemical processes, practice scientific thinking, attitude and work skills and analyze and solve various scientific processes using scientific methods. SMAN 16 hopes that this activity will continue with different topics.
