Abstract

omputational thinking and mathematical reasoning abilities are crucial 21st century skills. However, the results of international studies show that these abilities are still low in Indonesian students. This study aims to test the effectiveness of PISA-based learning in improving the computational thinking and mathematical reasoning abilities of junior high school students.  The PISA Principles are a learning guide released by the OECD to produce globally competent students. The study used a quasi-experimental design with two groups of grade VII junior high school students as subjects. The experimental group received a contextual-based PISA principle learning method, while the control group followed the conventional learning method. The research instrument was a computational thinking and mathematical reasoning ability test. Data were analyzed using a two-sample t-test. The results showed that the contextual-based PISA principle learning method was effective in improving students' mathematical reasoning abilities but was less effective for computational thinking abilities. These findings can be a reference in designing mathematics learning relevant to the demands of the 21st century.  The recommendation from the results of this study is the need for instrument adaptation to measure the dimensions of computational thinking that are more specific to the four main indicators, namely: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction and algorithms.

Abstract

This study contains the effect of mathematical anxiety on the motivation to learn mathematics and the mathematical creative thinking abilities of junior high school students. Mathematics learning also needs to understand the psychological aspects of students, including about mathematical anxiety and motivation to learn mathematics. Mathematical anxiety and motivation to learn mathematics that are not immediately addressed properly and correctly will affect students' creative thinking skills in mathematics. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mathematical anxiety on learning motivation and mathematical creative thinking abilities of junior high school students. This study uses the literature review method with publication limitations of the last 5 years. Exploration of publication results using an open-access website taken from Google Scholar with research results published in Reputable National Journals at least Sinta 4 and Reputable International Journals at least Q3. Publication results are limited to searches using the keywords “Math Anxiety”, “Learning Motivation”, “Creative Thinking Skills”, “Junior High School Mathematics Learning”, “Math Anxiety”, “Learning Motivation”, “Creative Thinking Skills”, and “Mathematics Learning in Junior High School”. Exploration results of publications were analyzed using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) syntax. The results showed that mathematical anxiety had an effect on motivation to learn mathematics and students' mathematical thinking abilities. Students who have excessive mathematical anxiety tend to have low motivation to learn mathematics. Low motivation to learn mathematics will affect the way students think, especially with regard to the ability to think creatively mathematically. Therefore, teachers must be alert and communicative in order to overcome these problems and students become more comfortable when learning mathematics.

Abstract

The research was conducted to improve mathematical literacy skills in the content of the growth phenomenon in class VIII C MTs Miftahul Huda through the development of learning videos based on the collaborative metacognition learning model assisted by CapCut. The research method used is the Research and Development Plomp model through three phases, namely preliminary analysis, prototyping, and assessment. Preliminary analysis produces the need for packaging mathematics learning that can invite students to understand mathematics material easily and solve contextual problems appropriately, so that students' mathematical literacy skills can be improved. Prototyping is carried out by designing a learning video that contains a video opening, problem presentation, problem solving, mathematical concept discovery, and video closing. The assessment was carried out by means of feasibility tests, practicality tests, and learning video effectiveness tests. The results of the video feasibility test from media experts were 0.97 and material experts were 0.97 which stated that they were very valid (feasible). Students rated the videos as very easy to use, useful, engaging, and encouraged metacognitive (practical) activities. Students' mathematical literacy increased in the medium category after using learning videos based on the collaborative metacognition learning model. Students need to get used to building mathematical concepts through contextual problem-solving even though their application takes a relatively long time. On this basis, advanced researchers need to consider the advantages of online learning that provide students with learning flexibility in building their mathematical understanding.

Abstract

This study investigated students’ cognitive progression in geometry based on Van Hiele levels. It used a design-based research approach that integrates the Van Hiele Model of Instruction with ethnomathematics, following the McKenney & Reeves design cycle (analysis and exploration, design and construction, and evaluation and reflection). Data were collected through Van Hiele tests, observations, teachers and students interview, and documentation, and analysed using qualitative methods (data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification). The pilot class (cycle 1) was conducted with 34 eighth-grade students at SMPN 6 Tasikmalaya in August 2025, while actual class (cycle 2) was carried out with 33 eighth-grade students at SMPN 13 Tasikmalaya in September 2025. The research results showed that students’ cognitive development peaked at the visualization phase in both the pilot class (85%) and the actual class (94%), with fewer students progressing to higher levels. However, the actual class (61% at the formal deduction level) demonstrated notable improvement compared to the pilot class (41% at the formal deduction level), due to refinements in instructional design. These findings suggest that integrating ethnomathematics with the Van Hiele model effectively enhances students’ geometric thinking.
