Abstract

Community empowerment is one of the solutions to overcome the problem of poverty in an area. Community empowerment can be carried out by utilizing local potential and developing aspects and social capital. Based on the theory of the poverty circle, several factors cause poverty, including income levels, education levels, and the amount of consumption. Ponorogo Regency is one of the top 10 food support districts in East Java, with progress in the agricultural sector capable of supporting regional food security. However, many underprivileged residents have a poverty rate 2022 of 9.32% of the total population. Based on these facts, this study aims to reveal the relationship between social capital, education level, and income level in Ponorogo Regency. This study uses multiple linear regression analysis with independent variables (Xn), including the level of public education (X1) and human capital (X2), as well as the dependent variable (Y), namely the level of welfare of the people of Ponorogo Regency. The analysis results show that in Ponorogo Regency, there is a correlation between social capital and the level of education and community welfare. The level of social welfare is influenced by education and human capital. The higher the education level and human capital, the higher the social welfare and social capital formed. The development of social capital in networks at the educational level of Ponorogo Regency is very closely related, especially to participation in the religious field. Likewise, the relationship with norms on social capital in which the community has no tendency for a certain level of education related to the desire to implement applicable norms. However, participation in traditional activities has a closer relationship only at the elementary to secondary education level. The analysis results also show that the people of Ponorogo Regency with any income level have a close relationship with all elements of social capital, namely trust, social networks, and norms. Low-income people are associated with an increase in social class.

Abstract

Abstract: Honey has unique components, a characteristic that makes it a valuable food for consumers. It is known that UV radiation and heating impact the quality of honey's bioactive compounds, including total phenolic, total flavonoid, and brown pigment contents. The absorbance of brown pigment at a wavelength of 420 nm, total phenolic at a wavelength of 733 nm, and total flavonoid at a wavelength of 430 nm was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The method used in the total phenolic test was the Folin-Ciocalteu method with gallic acid standard (mgGAE/g sample). In contrast, for flavonoids, the method used was the colorimetric method with quercetin standard (mg QE/g sample). The qualitative test results showed that all honey samples contained phenolic and flavonoid compounds. Total phenolic and flavonoid levels showed a decrease in several samples, including TR SLT (Trigona Southeast Sulawesi), TRG BGR (Trigona Bogor), and TR SLS (Trigona Genotrigona Indica South Sulawesi) in the range of 11.8–57.6%. However, most of the total phenolic and flavonoid levels increased after the heating process, i.e., in the samples of AP LMB (apis North Lombok) (25.3% and 88.8%), AP MG (apis mango) (73.1% and 114%), AP MAC (Aceh honey, Buloh Seuma) (8.8% and 199%), TR BIR (Trigona tetroginola biroi South Sulawesi) (58.8% and 146%), and TR LMB (Trigona North Lombok) (44.3% and 84.9%). In contrast, for the formation of brown pigment, there was an increase in all honey samples between 32 and 1.428%. The presence of brown pigment at the end of the heating process of honey samples is thought to have the same role as phenolic compounds and flavonoids, which change the heating process, especially in antioxidant activities and other bioactivities. However, further analysis is needed to prove the conjecture.

Abstract

Abstract: Cigarette filters are generally regarded as inert components composed primarily of cellulose acetate fibers and plasticizers such as triacetin. However, limited independent analytical studies have investigated the presence of additional compounds that may be incorporated during manufacturing. From a halal science perspective, the presence of proteinaceous materials or glycerol-related compounds may represent a potential halal critical point because their permissibility depends on their biological origin and processing method. This study conducted a preliminary screening of proteinaceous and glycerol-related compounds in several commercial cigarette filters using chromatographic and spectrometric analytical approaches. In addition, a hemoglobin-equivalent colorimetric assay was applied as an initial indicator of protein-like substances. The results indicated the presence of glycerol-related compounds consistent with commonly used plasticizers and humectants in cigarette filter manufacturing. The preliminary screening also suggested the presence of proteinaceous signals in certain samples, although the analytical approach used in this study does not allow for the confirmation of the species origin. These findings highlight the need for more comprehensive analytical verification, including advanced proteomic or DNA-based techniques, to determine the source of such compounds. The study underscores the importance of transparency in material sourcing and manufacturing processes for consumer products that may involve animal-derived substances. Furthermore, this research contributes to the development of analytical frameworks for identifying potential halal critical points in non-food consumer products such as tobacco-related materials.

Abstract

The government’s strategy to reduce the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is to promote the cultivation of Inpari IR Nutrizinc rice, which has a high zinc content of 34.5 ppm. This study aims to analyze internal and external factors, develop alternative strategies, and determine priorities for the development of Inpari IR Nutrizinc rice. The study was conducted in Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province, involving 15 informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires, field observations, and interviews, then analyzed using the IFE, EFE, IE, SWOT, and QSPM matrices. The analysis results indicate that the internal conditions of the farming business fall into the “very strong” category (IFE score of 2.59). In contrast, the external conditions fall into the “very supportive” category (EFE score of 3.39). The combination of these scores places the farming business in Cell II of the IE matrix, with strong external conditions and average internal conditions; therefore, the appropriate strategy is aggressive marketing to capitalize on existing opportunities. The SWOT matrix evaluation yielded six alternative strategies, which were then ranked using the QSPM: Strategy C (7.12), D (6.39), B (6.18), A (6.12), E (6.12), and F (5.98). Strategy C branding healthy rice to support the stunting reduction program ranked highest and was designated as the priority strategy.

Abstract

Natural disasters have an impact on the socio-economics of society. Therefore, community resilience in facing these disasters is essential. Social capital is one factor that can help strengthen community resilience. This research will take an approach from social capital that consists of trust, social networks, and norms with collective action and community resilience. So, the research objective is to determine community resilience through collective action at the post-disaster recovery stage. Research was conducted in Ponggok Village to answer these research questions, which has abundant water resources as the village's superior potential. The Krejcie and Morgan tables determined the sample and showed the results in 248 respondents' families. The analysis used is Descriptive Statistics and Partial Least Square (PLS)-Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Through the analysis accomplished, the study shows that social capital significantly impacts 99% of the collective actions of society and government in dealing with disasters. Community resilience and social capital had an R2 of 0.316 (31.6%), a moderate explanation of the variance.  However, this research still acquires confines despite the significant results. Therefore, the role of the community and government is crucial in achieving better resilience.
