Abstract

Digital inequality and the pandemic have exacerbated the learning crisis, caused some learning loss, also fostered students’ individualistic attitude, which resulted in poor collaboration skills. Furthermore, the models and approaches in the teaching material activities have not reflected the stages that encouraged the practice to enhance collaboration skills. Meanwhile, collaboration skills can be trained and developed by selecting the right teaching materials that are integrated with appropriate learning models. The development of PjBL-STEAM-based E-Module is believed to be able to improve students' collaboration skills. This study used a quasi-experimental design with basic random sampling. There were two study groups: the experimental and the control groups. The instruments used in this study were a self-assessment questionnaire measuring students’ collaboration skills and teachers’ observation sheets that aligned with the collaboration skill indicators. ANCOVA test was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that the E-Module has no significant effect on students' collaboration skills (α=0,213), while the covariates indicated some factors that significantly affect the improvement of students’ collaboration skills (α=0,004). The validation results of the PjBL-STEAM-based E-Module suggested that it is highly valuable to implement in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

It is important to carry out exploration of pteridophyte biodiversity in Ijen Crater Nature Preserve because with extreme natural conditions, we expected to get potential species for medicine purpose. In addition, knowing the diversity and abundance of a species becomes a conservation consideration. We found only one species of the genus Dicranopteris, i.e. Dicranopteris linearis (Burm. F) Underw. with low abundance (4-10 individuals per cluster) and only found in one location. This shows that this species needs attention due to its rarity in the area and further phytochemical analysis is needed to determine its potential as a drug.

Abstract

Abstract

Metacognitive skills are important because they help people develop an understanding of effective strategies. This skill also helps improve one's critical thinking and creative thinking so as to be able to overcome problems in everyday life. The purpose of this research is to train students' metacognitive skills through biology learning using the EAQD-PC learning model (acronym of exploring, analyzing, questioning, defining-peer coaching) which is integrated learning journals (LJ). This research was conducted at the University of Muhammadiyah Bone, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Using a quantitative research design, 43 students were taught by EAQD-PC-LJ. Metacognitive skills were tested with an essay test three times. Previous essay tests were validated by expert raters and tested on previous batches of students to measure empirical validity and reliability. All tests are valid and reliable. The results of the treatment showed an improvement in students' metacognitive skills through three tests. The findings of this study prove that EAQD-PC-LJ is effectively used to improve students' metacognitive skills through the learning process. Learning journals have an important role as a tool to train students' mastery of concepts and knowledge.
