Abstract

Sleep is one of the basic biological needs of humans that is very important for maintaining physiological and psychological functions. Good quality sleep supports overall health, including immunity, brain function, and emotional stability. Sleep disorders in the elderly are influenced by various factors such as physiological changes, chronic medical conditions, and psychosocial factors. Non-pharmacological approaches are a safer and recommended alternative. Two complementary therapies that are increasingly being used are Yasmin flower aromatherapy and guided imagery relaxation therapy. The purpose of this study is to determine which therapy is more effective between Yasmin flower aromatherapy and guided imagery in reducing Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores in the elderly. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design using a two-group pretest-posttest model without a control group. The aim is to compare the effectiveness of jasmine aromatherapy and guided imagery relaxation on improving sleep quality in the elderly. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument, the Indonesian version of the PSQI, was used to measure the respondents' sleep quality and had 7 components with a score range of 0–21. A score > 5 indicated sleep disturbance. The results showed that both interventions, Yasmin aromatherapy and guided imagery therapy, obtained a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) using a paired t-test, indicating a significant effect on improving the sleep quality of the elderly. However, the results of the independent t-test between the two groups showed that the Yasmin aromatherapy group had a greater effect than the guided imagery group. Thus, Yasmin aromatherapy proved to be more effective than guided imagery in improving the sleep quality of the elderly. The effectiveness of Yasmin aromatherapy was influenced by the characteristics of the elderly. Conceptually and practically, Yasmin aromatherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that is more effective, efficient, and easily accepted by the elderly.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Insufficient knowledge of reproductive health among female adolescents contributes to inadequate prevention and early detection of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer frequently develops in early adulthood, despite being preventable through the timely administration of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. This study evaluates the effectiveness of health education media in improving female adolescents' knowledge and attitudes toward the HPV vaccine. Methods: A quasi-experimental quantitative design with a pretest- posttest control group was employed. The sample consisted of 66 participants selected via probability sampling with stratified sampling. Result: Statistical analysis indicated that both the engklek and crossword puzzle intervention groups demonstrated significant improvements in knowledge and attitudes following the intervention (p < 0.05), while the control group showed no significant changes (p < 0.05). One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences in knowledge and attitudes among the engklek, crossword, and control groups (p = 0.000). Post hoc and N-gain analyses indicated that crossword puzzles were the most effective in enhancing adolescents’ knowledge. Conclusion: Crossword puzzle media can serve as an effective tool for disseminating information about the HPV vaccine. Enhanced dissemination is anticipated to increase HPV vaccine coverage and reduce cervical cancer risk.

Abstract

Background: Sexual violence against children, whether girls or boys, must not be tolerated.  Sexual violence against children can occur anywhere and anytime, and can be perpetrated by anyone, whether it is a family member, school staff, or others.  Therefore, children need to be equipped with proper knowledge of sexuality so that they can be protected from sexual violence.  This activity aims to increase students' knowledge at SD Negeri 79 Praumulih School. Method: This community service activity is carried out in several stages, including preparation, implementation, which involves the implementation of Comprehensive Sexual Violence Prevention Education for children, and evaluation and assessment of the activity results.  The School-Based Child Self Protection For Sexual Abuse (C-Sposa) program combines illustrated storybooks, challenge games, the song " dua mata saya," and the song "ku jaga diriku" with the storytelling delivery method.  The C-Sposa program activities are conducted indoors thru games to make the delivery more engaging. Result: The outcome of these activities is effective, as the participants showed enthusiasm in following the activities.  Participants were able to answer questions correctly 91% of the time, and several students were able to complete the challenge games well.  Conclusion: The C-Sposa Program is one of the effective ways to develop children's cognitive (knowledge), affective (feelings), social, and conative (appreciation) aspects, as well as a means to instill values in children without the need to preach to them.  It is hoped that this activity can be carried out periodically so that more students are educated about the prevention of Sexual Violence Against Children
