Abstract

Abstract

While deep learning has become a focal point in the transformation of Indonesian education, its implementation requires further investigation. This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a deep learning approach in enhancing AI literacy among elementary school students through the implementation of the AMAIL (Associative Model of AI Literacy) model. The study employed a pre-test post-test design across five intervention cycles, involving 118 fifth-grade students from three elementary schools in Salatiga. Data analysis utilized bootstrap techniques for Likert-scale questions and Exact McNemar's tests for dichotomous questions. Results showed a significant improvement in understanding AI personalization (p=0.020) and consistent growth in students' ability to explain AI concepts and demonstrate ethical awareness regarding AI use in later cycles (p<0.001). The developmental trajectory from the first to the fifth cycle underscores the importance of the implementation refinement process for the success of deep learning in enhancing students' AI literacy. This research provides an empirical foundation for developing AI literacy programs using a deep learning approach for elementary school students in Indonesia.

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills represent fundamental competencies essential for mathematical literacy development, yet elementary students frequently demonstrate passive engagement in mathematical discourse due to traditional instructional approaches that limit collaborative interaction and communication skill development. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design to investigate the effectiveness of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model in enhancing mathematical communication skills among elementary students. Participants comprised 51 third-grade students from SD Negeri Gendongan 01 Salatiga, with 27 students in the experimental group receiving RADEC instruction and 24 students in the control group receiving conventional mathematics instruction. Data were collected through validated essay-based assessments measuring written text, drawing, and mathematical expression competencies, supplemented by observations and interviews. Statistical analysis employed Independent Sample T-Tests using SPSS version 27. The experimental group achieved significantly superior performance with a mean score of 80.56 compared to the control group's mean score of 63.83 (p = 0.015, t = -2.534). Performance distribution analysis revealed 63% of experimental students attained very high achievement levels versus 50% in the control group, while low-performing students decreased from 13% to 4% following RADEC implementation.  The RADEC model's systematic progression through Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create phases effectively develops mathematical communication competencies by facilitating active engagement with mathematical language, collaborative discourse, and creative representation generation. These findings support theoretical frameworks emphasizing mathematical communication as a fundamental process skill essential for mathematical literacy development and provide empirical evidence for student-centered pedagogical approaches in elementary mathematics education.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of constructive learning models in improving mathematical problem-solving abilities in mathematics learning of grade IV students of Kutowinangun 12 Elementary School on multiplication and division materials, and to determine the comparison of the results of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities between classes that apply constructive learning models and classes that apply conventional learning models on multiplication and division materials. This study uses a quasi-experimental research method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design experimental design. The object of the study was elementary schools within the Muwardi Cluster in Tingkir District, Salatiga City, Central Java. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the results of the t-test collection (average difference test) based on the results of the students' posttest showed that the sig value (2-tailed) was 0.000 <0.05. The average posttest learning outcomes showed different results, namely in the experimental group 87.07, while in the control group it had an average of 72.87. It can be concluded that Ho is rejected, while Ha is accepted. This shows that there is a difference in effectiveness and it can be concluded that the constructive learning model is more effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in elementary schools than learning with conventional models.
