Abstract

Illegal cigarettes are a serious problem in Indonesia that has an impact on the health, economy, and social of the community. Illegal cigarettes cause the state to suffer losses of up to trillions of rupiah due to the loss of excise revenue. One of the efforts made by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to suppress the circulation of illegal cigarettes is through the Illegal Cigarette Strike program. This service aims to increase public awareness of the dangers and negative impacts of illegal cigarettes through the implementation of the Illegal Cigarette Strike program in Bandungan Village. The method of implementing this program consists of four main stages, namely campaigns, socialization, education, and advertising creation. The program was carried out from February 16 to March 6, 2025 by the UNNES GIAT 11 team in collaboration with village officials. The results of the activity show an increase in public understanding of the characteristics of illegal cigarettes and their impact on the state. This program is a strategic step in reducing the circulation of illegal cigarettes in Indonesia through increasing awareness and active participation of the public in efforts to eradicate illegal cigarettes.

Abstract

Amid the increasing influence of global economic, technological, and cultural transformations, history education faces challenges in maintaining its relevance and meaningfulness for students. Although previous studies have emphasized the importance of contextual and technology-supported history learning, limited attention has been paid to integrating cloud-based image recognition technology with local public history content, particularly in secondary education in Indonesia. This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of public history–based Image Cloud Recognition (ICR) media in improving students’ historical thinking skills. The research employed a research and development approach using the ADDIE model, combined with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design. The participants comprised 2 history teachers and 60 high school students in Semarang City, who were divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and historical thinking tests and analyzed using an independent-samples t-test. The findings indicate that the use of ICR media significantly improves students’ historical thinking skills compared to conventional learning, as evidenced by t-values of 8.778 and 10.239, which exceed the critical value (1.672) at p < 0.05. These results suggest that ICR media is effective in facilitating contextual, visually rich, and meaningful history learning, thereby enhancing students’ critical engagement with historical events.

Abstract

Juvenile justice systems worldwide face persistent challenges in balancing accountability, rehabilitation, and the protection of children’s rights. Traditional punitive approaches often fail to address the underlying existential and psychosocial needs of adolescents, contributing to high recidivism rates and social marginalization. This paper proposes an Integrated Existential Education Model as a transformative framework for juvenile justice reform within the context of international human rights, with a case study conducted at the Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak Kelas I (LPKA) Kutoarjo, Central Java, Indonesia. Drawing on existential psychology, the model emphasizes self-awareness, personal responsibility, and meaning-making, empowering adolescents to reflect on their life choices and develop authentic identities. It integrates human rights education and restorative practices to foster empathy, respect for others, and adherence to legal and ethical norms. Methodologically, the study employs a qualitative approach, including interviews with adolescents, educators, and staff, as well as analysis of international child rights frameworks, to examine the feasibility and potential impact of the model. The findings suggest that implementing existential education within juvenile rehabilitation programs can enhance psychological resilience, reduce recidivism, and promote social reintegration while ensuring compliance with global human rights standards. This integrated approach offers a practical, rights-based strategy for policymakers and practitioners in Indonesia and beyond.

Abstract

This research examines the critical role of climate education in shaping Indonesia’s future environmental justice movements. As climate change increasingly impacts the country, particularly its coastal and rural communities, the need for a well-informed citizenry capable of advocating for environmental justice has never been more urgent. This study focuses on how climate education within schools—ranging from primary to tertiary levels—affects students’ understanding of environmental issues and their ability to engage in climate activism. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines surveys, interviews with educators, and case studies from various regions of Indonesia, the research evaluates the current state of climate education in Indonesia’s formal education system and its potential to influence social movements. The findings suggest that while climate education is gaining traction in curricula, it remains unevenly implemented across different regions, particularly in rural or economically disadvantaged areas. Despite these challenges, students exposed to climate-focused education tend to show a stronger commitment to environmental justice principles, particularly in relation to issues of land rights, indigenous rights, and climate adaptation. The study argues that for Indonesia to effectively confront the dual challenges of climate change and social inequality, it is essential to integrate environmental justice into formal education, ensuring that future generations are not only climate literate but also equipped to take action. This research contributes to the broader discourse on climate education’s role in fostering sustainable and just societies.

Abstract

Sports sponsorship plays a pivotal role in the financing of professional sports in Indonesia, but the practice raises important questions about economic justice and fairness. This paper examines the economic justice of sports sponsorship, with a focus on how sponsorship deals impact the equitable distribution of resources within the sports industry. It assesses the power dynamics between sponsors, sports organizations, and athletes, analyzing how large sponsorship deals often concentrate resources in elite sports while sidelining grassroots programs and less popular sports. The research explores the ethical considerations surrounding sponsorship, including issues of monopolization, exploitation of athletes, and the commercial pressures placed on sports federations. The paper argues for a more balanced approach to sponsorship, proposing models that ensure fairer financial distribution across all levels of sport and safeguard the interests of athletes and local communities.
