Abstract

The growing demand for lightweight, high-performance structures in transportation and manufacturing has intensified research on hybrid weld-bonding as a joining method that synergizes the metallurgical strength of resistance spot welding (RSW) with the stress-damping capability of adhesives. However, the interaction between welding parameters, adhesive type, and adhesive thickness and their collective influence on nugget microstructure and joint integrity remains poorly understood. This study addresses these gaps through a systematic parametric investigation of hybrid spot weld–epoxy joints in AISI 1008 steel. Three commercial epoxy adhesives (Araldite 5 min, Araldite 90 min, and Devcon 90 min) were applied at thicknesses of 0.2, 0.6, and 1.0 mm under a fixed RSW schedule (50 A, 10 s), followed by a secondary factorial test varying welding current (50-80 A) and time (10-20 s) for Araldite 5 min at 0.6 mm. Mechanical performance was evaluated via lap shear testing, while fracture morphology and nugget chemistry were analyzed using optical microscopy, SEM, and EDX. Results revealed an optimal configuration at 60 A and 10 s with 0.6 mm Araldite 5 min adhesive, achieving the highest shear strength (~5.74 kN). Strength exhibited a non-monotonic dependence on adhesive thickness, indicating coupled thermo-mechanical effects of polymer decomposition and stress redistribution. Fractographic analysis showed transitions from interfacial to cohesive failure modes with increasing adhesive thickness, while excessive welding energy induced HAZ softening and porosity. The study advances mechanistic understanding by correlating adhesive curing kinetics and thermal degradation with nugget evolution and joint mechanics. These findings provide both scientific insight and practical guidance for optimizing hybrid joining parameters in thin-gauge steel structures.

Abstract

Abstract

Impact of the composite sandwich made of materials that become defect, how defects after impact  in material need to be examined .Is that defected composites and wich still has the strength toremain in use?, then the bending after impact strength testing must be done to answer these questions.Composite sandwich with bamboo fiber-fiber glass reinforcement and with a core of 25mm rigid polyurethane foam sheet was produced. Composite sandwich made with two composite sandwich laminate as skinflanking the core. Laminated composite sandwich in this study varied number of layers of reinforcing fibers and type of fiber. Specimens subjected to drop weight impact with varying energy then defect researched and bending  after impact strengthtested. Defects formed on the composite experiencing a drop weight impact loads are: delamination, basin and through hole. The more layers of reinforcing fibers in the composite skin causing moreshallowbasinformed by theresidualimpact. The greater the impact energy causes greater depth of residual basin. Composite sandwich still has the bending strength after impact. Residual bending strength decreases with increasing impact energy imposed on the composite.

Abstract

Spot welding is a joining method that utilizes thermal energy generated by the resistance of electric current. Research was conducted to determine the effect of plate thickness, current and welding time on the characteristics of spot welding results. Spot welding was performed on low carbon steel plates of 0.8 mm, 1.5 mm and 1.8 mm thickness with current (50, 60, 70, 80 amperes) and welding time (10, 15, 20 seconds). Characterization of the spot welds was done by shear test (ASTM D1002-10) and observation of macro and micro structure (ASTM E3-11) and failure surface of the specimens. From the research conducted, it is known that the average shear strength increases with decreasing plate thickness, increasing welding current and decreasing welding time. The highest average shear strength of 502,772 N/mm2 was obtained with a plate thickness of 0.8 mm, a welding current of 70 A, and a welding time of 10 seconds. For thin plates, most of the shear test specimens failed in the area of the heat affected zone, while for thick plates, most of the shear test specimens failed in the area of the nugget spot weld.

Abstract

The mutual interaction between humans and animals in the field of ethnozoology includes uses that can be oriented toward conservation or exploitation efforts. However, excessive abuse of sea turtles (Chelonioidea), especially in the direction of exploitation, has led to population decline and threatened their extinction. Observations in the Derawan Island community, Berau Regency, show a decrease in the number of turtles coming to lay their eggs due to overexploitation. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to carry out research that looks for factors that influence attitudes and behavior in using turtles, including the level of ethnozoological knowledge and family economic status. This research uses a quantitative approach with an analytical correlational design and applies Path Analysis. The results of the analysis show that the level of ethnozoological knowledge has a significant influence on attitudes, with a path coefficient of 0.298 in block-1. In block-2, the results of the analysis show that the level of ethnozoological knowledge directly influences turtle utilization behavior with a path coefficient of 0.313. In conclusion, the level of ethnozoological knowledge has a dominant role in shaping turtle utilization behavior in Derawan Island.
