Abstract

Latic acid bacteria play a significant role in the fermentation of food, such as kimchi, which is fermented vegetables. Sawi kampung ansabi is a vegetable cultivated by the Dayak people in Kalimantan during the rice farming season which can be fermented into kimchi. Based on phenotypic similaities, the aim of this study was to identify and acquire cultures of lactic acid bacteria on MRSA media (De Man Rogosa and Sharpe Agar) enriched 1% CaCO3 from kimchi sawi ansabi fermented food sawi ansabi. The results of the isolations were used to test 10 isolates of lactic acid bacteria using the MVSP (Multivariate Statistical Package) program, the UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Average Mean) method based on the Simple Matching Coefficient and Jaccard Coefficient to form dendrograms. Simple Matching Coefficient analysis resulted 8 isolates suspected to be Lactobacillus plantarum with a similarity index of 94.6%, 1 suspected 91.9% to Lactobacillus dellbrueckii, and 1 suspected 91.9% to Pediococcus cerevisiae. The Jaccard Coefficient analysis resulted in 8 isolates suspected of Lactobacillus plantarum with a similarity index of 92.6%, 1 isolate suspected 87% to Lactobacillus dellbrueckii, and 1 isolate 88% to Pediococcus cerevisiae.

Abstract

Ferns belonging to the Polypodiaceae family are widely distributed across various regions of the world, particularly in forested areas and regions characterized by high humidity levels. The analysis of relationships among ferns can be conducted based on their morphological characteristics. The aim of this study was to determine the relationships among ferns of the Polypodiaceae family in the Bukit Kujau area of Tempunak District, Sintang Regency, utilizing morphological traits. This research was conducted from October to December 2023, during which 35 samples were collected in the Bukit Kujau area through purposive sampling. The relationships were analyzed using the UPGMA method in the NTSys program. The study identified seven species of ferns from the Polypodiaceae family: Platycerium bifurcatum (Cav.), Dynaria querfolia (L.), Davallia denticulatum (Burm.f.), Phymatodes scolopendria (Burm.), Diplazium esculentum (Rezt.), Pyrrosia numularifolia (Sw.), and Drymoglossum piloselloides (Linn.). Based on the grouping analysis, the seven species of ferns exhibited a similarity coefficient ranging from 0.37 to 1.00. At a similarity coefficient of 0.47, the species were grouped into three clusters, each distinguished by morphological characteristics such as sorus shape, sorus type, and sorus color.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the diversity and relationships of banana varieties (Musa spp) based on morphological characters. This research was conducted from January to April 2023 in 4 hamlets, namely Dusun Keramat 1, Dusun Keramat ll, Dusun Karya l, and Dusun Kary ll in Kuala Dua Village, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. There were 41 morphological characters observed including vegetative, generative and quantitative characters. Analysis of kinship relationships using the UPGMA (Unweighted Pair-wise Multivariate Analysis) method with the NTSYS ver 2.0 application is presented in the form of a dendrogram. In this research, 13 varieties were obtained, namely kapok bananas, crew bananas, 40 day bananas, cavendish bananas, green cooking bananas, chestnut bananas, mas bananas, Malaysian bananas, king bananas, areca nut bananas, Ambon bananas, red kak bananas, and prawn bananas. The results of the grouping analysis showed that 13 banana varieties had a similarity level of 39% and formed two main groups, namely groups A and B. Group A consisted of kapok bananas, crew bananas, red kak bananas, chestnut bananas, king bananas, areca nut bananas and prawn bananas. Group B consists of 40 day bananas, mas bananas, cavendish bananas, green ripe bananas and Malaysian bananas. At a similarity level of 83%, each banana variety forms a group within its respective variety.

Abstract

Taro (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Scott) is a plant classified as a tuber derived from the genus Colocasia and belongs to the Araceae tribe. Analysis of kinship relationships can be done by observing morphological characters. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between taro plants in Bengkayang Regency based on morphological characters. This research was conducted from April to June 2023. Taking 30 samples in 6 sub-districts using purposive sampling method. Analysis of kinship relationships using the NTSys program with the UPGMA method. The results showed that 30 taro accessions had a similarity coefficient value of 0.52-0.93 or 52-93%. The results of kinship relationship analysis obtained 4 clusters at a similarity coefficient value of 0.60 or 60%. The results of morphological characterization based on qualitative and quantitative characters show that taro accessions have diversity in leaf and cormus characters of taro, especially in color characters.

Abstract

Bajakah tampala plant (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk.) has been used for traditional medicine by the Kalimantan Dayak tribe in the treatment of cancer. This study aimed to find out the potential of ethanol extract of the stem of Bajakah tampala (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk.) as an anti-inflammatory agent in carrageenan-induced mice. The method used was a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of a water-treated mouse as a negative control, sodium diclofenac 30,8 mg kg-1 as a positive control, and an extract of bajakah dose 2.5; 250; 1250 mg kg-1 BW. The dose of bajakah extract was given orally one hour before carrageenan induction. The inflammation induction used the Winter method by injecting 0.15 ml of 2% carrageenan suspension into the soles of mice. The diameter of edema was measured for 210 minutes. The results showed that the diameter of the mice soles showed a significant increase in all groups after the carrageenan injection. The value of AUC (Area Under the Curve) of bajakah extract dose (2.5; 250; 1250 mg kg-1) from the 150th minute to the 210th minute did not show significant differences from one another. The sodium diclofenac as positive control gave the lowest total AUC value of 236 mm.minute, followed by bajakah extract at a dose of 2.5 mg kg-1 BW of 239.22 mm.minute. The calculation results of the percentage of the inflammation inhibition showed that the administration of ethanol extract of the stem of Bajakah, Spatholobus littoralis, at the lowest dose of 2.5 mg kg-1 BW provide the best inflammation inhibition with 19.21% inhibitory value, nearly approaching the positive control of diclofenac sodium with an inhibitory value of 21.53%.
