Abstract

Mistakes during medical treatments are a rising concern in patient safety. Nurses are critical in ensuring the safe administration of drugs to patients, influenced by various factors. This literature review aims to identify factors influencing nurses in medication safety. The pieces of literature were sourced from the PubMed, Proquest, Science-Direct, and Willey Library electronic databases, with search terms of “risk factor or related factor”, “nurse or nurse role,” “medication error”, “drug safety”, “drug administration”. The review process resulted in twenty-three original articles meeting the inclusion criteria. The review shows five main factors influencing a nurse’s role in medication safety which are; organization & management (training programs, career paths, medication error reporting systems, staffing, information systems), working environment (additional routines, official shifts, number of service days, interruptions during action, workloads), work, learning culture), team (leadership style, oral and written communication), nurse’s personal and work history (age, length of work, experience, education, knowledge and skills/competence, motivation and attitude, nurse awareness) and task (availability & use of protocol). Abstract

The preceptorship model has been widely used in clinical nursing education to achieve clinical students’ competence.Although preceptorship is the core of clinical education, it also requires restructuring and support in its implementation so that preceptorship training develops. Preceptorship training has an important effect on competence, clinical skills, and satisfaction of the preceptor in guiding nursing students, but not all preceptor nurses are trained to perform this complex role. This study aims to identify the effect of preceptorship training on the guidance quality of clinical practice students. This study is a literature review, accessed from internet database searches i.e. Google Scholar, Pro Quest, and Sciencedirect with the keywords preceptorship, preceptorship training, preceptorship and clinical practice. From the Google Scholar database, 480 articles were found, 365 articles from Pro Quest and 327 from Sciencedirect. After going through the screening process and eligibility, 7 articles fit the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The results showed that there are 4 parts that result from preceptorship training and affect the guidance quality of clinical practice students to increase knowledge, clinical skills, and confidence in the nursing process, improve communication skills, provide positive support to students, and connect the gap between theory and practice. Abstract

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is one of the most common congenital abnormalities in children with a chronic course of disease. CHD almost always causes problem psychologically either for patients and their families. Education about CHD in children addressed to their parents and caregivers could help to overcome the emotional problems that arise while caring for children with CHD. This study was at a time to review the educational programm that can be used to improve the parental coping mechanism of children with CHD. This study is a literature review sourced from PubMed, Google Scholar andScience Directdatabases, with inclusion criteria as follows: articles published in 2015-2020, available in full text and published in Indonesian and English. Our results found 169 articles, of them only 3 that met the inclusion criteria. Implementation of empowerment-based education program was proved to improve the knowledge, parenting behavior, and self-efficacy of parents and caregivers of children with CHD. Education with audiovisual media such as photos related to diagnostic procedures could be an important first step. The level of parental anxiety was lower in the intervention group than the control group (M=63, SD=3.5 vs M=70, SD=2.8). Module-based and workshop-based intervention programs such as the Congenital Heart Disease Intervention Program (CHIP)-Family intervention or education with evidence-based Families coping programs have been shown to improve mental health and coping mechanisms for parents of children with CHD. Nursing education using various media has been proven to improve the coping mechanisms of parents of children with CHD Keywords: Education; Media; Parents; Family; Coping Mechanisms; CHD

Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced health education in many countries, including nursing education that moves to online learning.  It has affected the tutor's performance and students' critical thinking skills, especially in online PBL tutorials. Tutor and nursing students have to re-adapt to a new online meeting atmosphere that previously had face-to-face meetings. There was no previous investigation into the effect of online PBL on tutor performance and nursing students’ critical thinking skills in UMY.Purpose: This study aims to determine students’ perceptions of tutor performance in online problem-based learning tutorials and the critical thinking skills of nursing students in UMY.Methods: This research is a cross-sectional quantitative study. The sample included 91 second-year nursing students, using the total sampling technique. The researchers used two questionnaires with closed questions about the tutor's performance in PBL tutorials and the critical thinking skills. Data were analyzed by univariate analysis. Result: The majority of respondents were female (83.5%) and 19-20 years old (91.2%). The study results showed that the tutor's performance on the online PBL tutorial was good (95.6%), while the critical thinking ability was poor (54.9%).Conclusion: This study showed that students still needed to adjust and adapt maximally to online problem-based learning tutorials and needed support and motivation to improve the quality of learning.

Abstract

Background: Besides knowledge and clinical skills, nursing students should have professional behavior as an essential component of competences as a side of knowledge and clinical skills. One aspect of professionalism is academic integrity. Lecturer should know about students’ perception of academic integrity and behavior, to make a good way to detect and prevent the deviant behavior. The objective of this study is to describe nursing students’ perception and behavior on academic integrity.Method: Survey was conducted in a nursing school in Yogyakarta. The subject were 230 nursing students who were taken by proportionate stratified random sampling. The data were analyzed with descriptive analysis. Results: There were many deviant or unacceptable behaviors which were not considered as an academic misconduct (by 5.2%-61.3% students). Peer students’ percentage who had done an academic misconduct with 10 of the highest percentage was 50%-82.2% and the behavior ever done by students was 28.7%-68.7%. The intention to do the behavior in the future was 3-38.7%.Conclusion: Perceptions of nursing students on academic integrity varied widely. Many of the actual behaviors were not considered as academic misconduct. Nursing students had different opinions about the behavior that violated academic integrity. Students’ perceptions about the behavior and the behavior of a peer friend were in accordance with the students’ own behavior. Therefore, there is a need for a shared perception between institutions and students about behaviors that violate academic integrity.
