Abstract

This research aims to improve the learning process and increase students' Mathematical Representation Ability (MRA) through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The form of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 2 cycles carried out in class The research instrument consists of learning tools (learning objective flow and teaching modules) and data collection instruments (observation sheets and MRA tests). Based on the results of the analysis of teacher and student activities as a whole, it was found that there was an improvement in the quality of the implementation of the learning process. The results of the MRA test analysis show that the average MRA score of students in the initial test was 40.85 in the low category and increased in cycle 1 to an average of 54.81 in the medium category and in cycle 2 the average gain in MRA scores amounting to 75.69 in the high category. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the PBL model can improve the quality of implementation of the learning process and increase students' MRA.

Abstract

This study aims to overcome the problem of minimal use of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on contextual problems in mathematics learning. Through the 4D development model, the LKPD developed is proven to be valid and practical in facilitating the problem-solving abilities of grade VIII junior high school students on the material of flat-sided solid shapes. The results of the small group LKPD trial obtained a score of 85.11% with a very practical category and the results of the large group LKPD trial obtained a score of 85.70% with a very practical criterion. Thus, overall it is concluded that the LKPD developed based on contextual problems to facilitate students' mathematical problem-solving abilities on the material of flat-sided solid shapes of grade VIII junior high school/MTs has met the valid and practical criteria. Thus, this LKPD has the potential to be an effective alternative in mathematics learning, especially in improving students' critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning process and enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills through the implementation of a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with local cultural values. The research employed a classroom action research design consisting of two cycles conducted during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The subjects were 35 students, and data were collected through observation sheets and problem-solving tests. The learning tools used included a teaching module. The results showed continuous improvement in classroom activities, such as students' ability to understand problems presented in the worksheets, increased collaboration among group members, greater student engagement in discussions, and attentiveness to instructions and learning tasks. The average problem-solving test scores improved from an initial 21.52 to 77.26 in the first cycle and 86.76 in the second cycle. These findings indicate that the implementation of the PBL model with local cultural content effectively improves both the learning process and students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

This research is carried out due to students' low Mathematical Problem Solving Ability (Indonesian: KPMM) and the unavailability of learning documents that are following the demands of the 2013 Curriculum. This research produces learning documents using the ASSURE design with problem-solving strategies to improve students' KPMM. The development model used is the 4D model with validity instruments in the form of validation sheets of the syllabus, lesson plans (RPP), student activity sheets (LAS) and KPMM tests; practicality of the instruments in the form of student response questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires, and observation sheets; and effectiveness of the instruments in the form of KPMM test questions. The data were collected through questionnaires, observations and KPMM tests. The data were analyzed using validity analysis techniques; practicality analysis and effectiveness analysis. From the results of the data processing, the average score of the syllabus validation result is 3,56; RPP 3.60; LAS 3.51; and KPMM questions 3.55. The average scores of the student response questionnaire on limited trials and field trials are respectively 92.85% and 87.41% classified in the 'very practical' category. The average scores of the teacher response questionnaire and teacher observation are 96.54% and 94.31%. Based on the results of the effectiveness test, it can be stated that there are differences in KPMM students between the experimental class and the control class. It can be concluded that the learning documents developed have been valid, practical, and effective to improve students' KPMM.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kecakapan pemecahan masalah matematis peserta didik. Tujuan penelitian ini menghasilkan bahan ajar berbasis  masalah kontekstual materi sistem persamaan linier tiga variabel untuk meningkatkan kecakapan pemecahan masalah matematis peserta didik fase E SMK yang memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis, dan efektif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang menggunakan model pengembangan 4D. Hasil analisis data validitas bahan ajar memperoleh rata-rata skor dari semua validator 88.97% dengan kategori sangat valid. Hasil pratikalitas bahan ajar pada uji coba kelompok kecil dengan rata rata 86.05% kategori sangat praktis dan hasil pratikalitas bahan ajar pada uji coba lapangan dengan rata rata 86.94% kategori sangat praktis. Nilai rata-rata skor posttest untuk kelas eksperimen adalah 80.19% dan kelas kontrol adalah 68.19%. Hasil analisis data tes kecakapan pemecahan masalah matematis diperoleh bahwa peserta didik kelas eksperimen yang belajar menggunakan bahan ajar berbasis masalah kontekstual lebih tinggi daripada peserta didik kelas kontrol yang belajar tanpa menggunakan bahan ajar berbasis masalah kontekstual. Dengan demikian bahan ajar telah memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis dan efektif.

Abstract

The basis of the problem in this research is the low level of mathematical representation ability among students in class IX B at SMP IT Al Fityah Pekanbaru. The initial test results showed that the percentage of students achieving the maximum score in the visual representation indicator was 32%, in the mathematical expression representation indicator was 43%, and in the word representation indicator was 36%. This study was conducted in two cycles using the problem-based learning model on the topic of geometric transformation. Each cycle included planning, action, observation, and reflection activities. The purpose of this study was to improve the learning process and enhance students' mathematical representation abilities. Data were collected using observation techniques and mathematical representation ability tests. The results showed improvements in both the learning process and students' abilities. The average percentage of students achieving the maximum score across the two cycles was 86% in visual representation, 82% in mathematical expression representation, and 52% in word representation. It can be concluded that the problem-based learning model is an effective teaching method for improving students' mathematical representation abilities.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of students to understand mathematical concepts. One of the efforts made to facilitate the ability to understand mathematical concepts is by developing Contextual Teaching and Learning LKPD. This research aims to produce valid and practical LKPD products to facilitate the ability to understand mathematical concepts. The form of this research is development research using the 4-D model (definition, design, development and distribution). The research subjects were class VIII of SMPN 32 Pekanbaru. Research instruments include interviews, observations, validation sheets, student response questionnaires. The data analysis technique is carried out by analyzing validation data and student response data. The results of data analysis showed that the LKPD developed had met valid standards with a percentage of 89.06% in the very valid category. The student response questionnaire met practical standards with a percentage of 89.62% in the very practical category. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the LKPD developed meets the valid and practical criteria, so it can be used in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a student worksheet on the Pythagorean Theorem utilizing the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach, designed to meet validity and practicality standards to enhance the mathematical connection abilities of 8th-grade students. The research adopted the 4D development model, which includes the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. To ensure the validity of the student worksheet, three experts conducted a comprehensive validation process. Feasibility data were collected through trials involving 8th-grade students. The validation results indicated a score of 90.77%, categorized as "very valid." Small group trials yielded a practicality score of 89.98%, categorized as "very practical." Furthermore, large-scale trials demonstrated an average score of 89.29%, also categorized as "very practical." These findings highlight the effectiveness of the RME approach in facilitating students' mathematical connection abilities through the Pythagorean Theorem material. The developed student worksheet was proven to be valid, practical, and highly beneficial for supporting the development of mathematical connections among 8th-grade students.

Dengan demikian bahan ajar telah memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis dan efektif.

Abstract

Penelitian dilatarbelakangi rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa di Kota Pekanbaru. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pada materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Tiga Variabel. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek yang diteliti adalah siswa kelas X-5 di SMA Negeri 4 Pekanbaru sebanyak 20 orang siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan tes. Tes yang digunakan berbentuk soal uraian sebanyak 3 soal berdasarkan indikator kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Teknik analisis yang digunakan meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas X-5 SMA Negeri 4 Pekanbaru pada materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Tiga Variabel masih sangat rendah, dengan nilai rata-rata hanya 33,75. Sebanyak 75% siswa termasuk kategori sangat rendah, dan hanya 10% siswa memperoleh kategori sedang. Sebagian besar siswa mampu memahami masalah, akan tetapi kesulitan dalam menyusun rencana penyelesaian, melaksanakan rencana penyelesaian, dan memeriksa kembali jawaban. Temuan menunjukkan bawah diperlukan latihan soal rutin dan non-rutin, strategi pembelajaran yang lebih mendalam, serta guru dapat memberikan perhatian terutama pada materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Tiga Variabel untuk membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis.
