Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of moral degradation and ethical crises among adolescents due to the massive use of social media. Interactions in the digital space often ignore the values of politeness, characterized by the rise of hate speech, hoaxes, and the loss of privacy. The purpose of this study is to re-explore the relevance of Malay proverbs as an instrument for character education in shaping adolescent digital ethics. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study and digital observation approach. The results show that Malay proverbs contain philosophical values that are highly compatible with modern digital literacy principles. The value of caution in the proverb "Terlajak perahu boleh ditarik, terlajak kata buruk padanya" is very relevant to the awareness of digital footprints. Furthermore, the verification principle in the proverb "Dengar cakap enggang..." becomes a crucial filter in countering the spread of hoaxes. This study concludes that the revitalization of Malay proverbs is not merely a cultural preservation effort, but an urgent need to provide "moral software" for adolescents to maintain a polite identity amidst the hustle and bustle of the digital world.
