Abstract

The research concerned here was to know the economic rationality of residents who dwelled again in their former village after the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 and refused to be relocated by the government. A combined research method, namely, a combination between a qualitative method and a quantitative one, was used to uncover the rationality. The qualitative part of the research was conducted first by deciding informants considered knowledgeable about the matter under research. Then the informants were interviewed in turns decided via snowball sampling. Some secondary data were used to support the qualitative research. As for the quantitative part of the research, it was conducted afterwards by turning members of the households in the village into respondents. The finding of the research is as follows. The residents perceive the disaster not only as a dangerous natural phenomenon but also as an economic blessing because tourists’ visits to the areas suffering from the impact of the disaster enable residents to have activities that have economic value. That economic rationality was what motivated them to return to their village though its condition is categorized by the government as unfit for dwelling.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected Muslim religious practices. Social distancing policy, which requires not to gather for any activities, are contradictory to the Muslim’s religious ritual which promotes congregational worship. It accidentally becomes concerns of Muslim intellectuals. Therefore, they publish their thoughts in either national or international journals. This article focuses on the results of the intellectual thoughts published in national journals. It employs descriptive qualitative method through journal searches. There are 16 related journals deemed to meet the requirements. The results of the study show that the social distancing policy is responded in pros and cons. Those who go with cons do not intend to refuse the government policies but to purely adhere to religious tenet because religion has long been believed while Covid-19 is perceived as a threat. In this sense, they are afraid of religion more than the Covid-19. Meanwhile, those who are pro are subject to not only government regulations but also religion. Therefore, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about an adaptive attitude of Muslims to remain obedient to the government regulations by carrying out independent religious practices or through virtual spaces.

Abstract: Haza Chips is a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) in Sinduharjo Village, Ngaglik District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. The Haza Chips MSME was established in early 2023. Haza Chips has experienced ups and downs in its management process. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was carried out through observation and interviews. The existence of the Haza Chips MSME has given rise to women's participation in selling from Arisan to supermarkets. Starting from a hobby and skill possessed by women in cooking, it produces higher and increasing sugar value. The findings indicate that the arisan activity functions not only as a means of saving and borrowing, but also as a space for building solidarity, exchanging information, and strengthening social capacity, which is the basis for the formation of the Haza Chips business. Abstract

Objective: this research examines the intricate processes contributing to educational development inequity among girls from impoverished female-headed households (pekka) in Pakpak communities at Pegagan Julu VIII Village, North Sumatra. The study explores the interplay between cultural traditions, socioeconomic constraints, and gender ideology that restricts girls' educational opportunities despite Indonesia's commitment to gender equality in educational development frameworks. Method: the investigation employed qualitative feminist methodology, gathering comprehensive life stories from seven Pakpak girls (ages 15-20) who experienced educational discontinuation. Data collection involved in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and focus group discussions with participants and their families, conducted over nine months of ethnographic fieldwork. Results: the analysis revealed that educational development inequity stems from two interlocking systems: patriarchal cultural structures and extreme poverty conditions. These systems create a "patriarchy-poverty nexus" that produces double marginalization of girls—first by systematically restricting their access to higher education in favor of male siblings, and second by imposing additional economic burdens wherein girls must abandon education to financially support their brothers' schooling. Significantly, mothers in these households often serve as unwitting agents reproducing patriarchal values despite their own marginalized position as household heads. Novelty: this study contributes uniquely to educational development discourse by identifying specific mechanisms through which traditional values intersect with economic hardship to create gender-based educational disparities in indigenous communities. Unlike previous research focusing solely on economic barriers, our findings illuminate how cultural interpretations of gender responsibility result in female educational sacrifice becoming normalized as familial duty, providing new insights for addressing educational inequity in traditional communities undergoing uneven development processes.

Abstract

Traditional practices are one of the factors that cause gender inequality because they consider women to be inferior to the superiority of men. The purpose of this study is to reveal the customary practices of Lampung which then cause gender inequality to be hereditary by focusing on the term mikhrul. By using qualitative research data was collected through interviews with traditional leaders, religious and community leaders. In addition, indirect observation was used to strengthen data that was not disclosed at the time of the interview. Secondary data obtained from journals and books. By using descriptive analysis, the findings of this study are: mikhrul is a customary term that is socialized to girls from a young age which means that girls are daughter-in-law while boys are biological children. Consequence, girls do not have access, participation, and control in the family, because the role of girls is temporary, namely before marriage. Therefore, daughters are only custodians of family assets. Meanwhile, sons have a substitute role for their parents, are responsible for family members who are not yet independent, and have responsibilities for their wives, so that sons have power over all parental assets. In the name of custom, the superiority of sons in the family is passed down from generation to generation, so that women experience gender inequality. responsible for family members who are not yet independent, and have responsibility for the wife, so that the son has power over all the assets of the parents. Abstract

During the Corana Virus pandemic, social interaction in the implementation of the halal bi halal tradition was carried out online to anticipate the spread of the Corana Virus. This activity is something new for the Muslim archipelago. Because of this, the interaction changes from offline to online. This study aims to determine the changes that occur when implementing the halal bi halal tradition. Qualitative descriptive method with direct interview and observation techniques and strengthened by using secondary data obtained from previous research, websites and books are used to obtain this information. The findings of this study are that online social interaction does not fully facilitate social interaction, because online interactions cannot display expressions of sincerity, relief, and joy, which are the expressions of Nusantara Islam in expressing halal bi halal. This is because the use of technology is limited by space and time in the zoom meeting media. Thus, conveying the message of halal bi halal to strengthen relationships can use technology, but not to display halal bi halal expressions
