Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan pola pencapaian kesadaran tokoh utama perempuan tertindas dalam novel Far from the Madding Crowd karya Thomas Hardy dan The Tenant of Wildfell Hall karya Anne Bronte dengan pendekatan feminis. Tokoh utama bemama Bathsheba dalam Far From the Madding Crowd, sadar bahwa hidupnya berada dalam lingkungan patriarkal dan tertindas oleh dominasi laki-laki ketika ditinggal pcrgi suaminya Meskipun akhimya mcnikah dengan laki-laki yang dianggap lebih mencintainya, Bathsheba tetap berada pada posisi tersubordinasi oleh laki-laki. Kesadaran tokoh utama perempuan bemama Helen pada posisinya yang tertindas oleh laki-laki dan lingkungan patriarki dalam The Tenant of Wildfell Hall muncul saat mengetahui perselingkuhan suaminya. Agar dapat hidup bebas dan mandiri, Helen melarikan diri dari suaminya. Pilihan Anne Bronte pada solusi menuju zona liar untuk membebaskan perempuan dari ketertindasan menunjukkan konsistcnsinya sebagai perempuan pengarang, sedangkan laki-laki pengarang (Thomas Hardy) memilih menempatkan tokoh perempuannya tetap bertahan dalam komunitasnya Abstract: This article aims to describe the awareness achievement pattern of the female main character being oppressed in Thomas Hardy's novel, Far From the Madding Crowd and Anne Bronte's novel. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, by means of feminism approach. The main character in Far From the Madding Crowd, Bathsheba, realized that her life is in patriarchal surroundings and being oppressed by male domination when she was left by her husband. Although, she eventually got married to a man loving her more. Bathsheba is still in the position of subordinated by a male. The awareness of female character named Helen, in her position of being oppressed by male and patriarchal surroundings in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, emerged when she found her husband adultery. To live free and liberated, Helen ran away from her husband. Anne Bronte's choice to a solution heading for the wild zone in Liberating women from oppression indicates her consistency as an author female; whereas. author male (Thomas Hanly) chose to set his female character to persist with her community. Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk membongkar pengonstruksian eksistensi tokoh utama perempuan yang dilakukan oleh narator yang sekaligus bertindak sebagai tokoh utama laki-laki dan sebaliknya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode dekonstruksi Jacques Derrida, dengan cara menelusuri permainan sistem penandaan (signifying practices). Penelitian ini menemukan paradoks yang bersirkulasi dan berantai dalam signifying practices menunjukkan ketidakstabilan (kontradiksi) makna yang mengindikasikan tidak hanya proses konstruksi monologis perempuan, hasrat erotis homoseksual terepresi tokoh utama laki-laki ataupun demitologisasi peran perempuan, tetapi juga cerita pendek bergenre dystopia ini (Peeling) memperlihatkan kekaburan demarkasi makna yang disebabkan asimetris jaringan penanda/petanda dalam lapisan misteri eksistensi kedua tokoh utama tersebut. Kata-Kata Kunci: eksistensi, dekonstruksi, signifying practices, kekaburan demarkasi. Abstract: This paper aims to deconstruct the existence of a main female character conducted by the male narrator agent and vice versa. This research employed Derrida s deconstruction method by way of tracing the signifying practices in Peeling. It is found that the paradox circulates and intertwines in the signifying practices demonstrating the instability (contradiction) of meanings that indicates not only the monologic construction of woman, repressed homo-erotic desire of the main male character, demythologisation of women s roles, but also that this dystopian short story shows the obscure demarcation of meaning due to the asymmetrical web of signifier/signified in the mystery of existence of both main characters. Abstract

This study is a part of multi year layered case study on recommendation on public participation in political campaign in social media policy (Twitter). This paper scrutinises tweets and memes from Jokowi and Prabowo’s volunteers/supporters in 2014 Presidential Election during the campaign days (4 June – 5 July 2014) which were taken based on judgement sampling. The focus of the first layer study is the analysis of the written  text (tweet) and written and visual text (meme) from Jokowi and Prabowo’s volunteers/supporters in order to deconstruct the mechanism of the expressions of the written and visual text of both camps during the campaign days and to examine to what extent the expressions are used lead to negative or black campaign. Hallidayean transitivity system is deployed to analyze language variables employed in tweets whilst Kress and van Leeuwen social semiotics is applied to analyze the visual text in memes. Both tweets and memes are used as media in constructing, striking back and leading netizens’ opinions in digital democracy. It is found in this stage that tweets and memes represent not only cyber war in the form of discursive contestation of Jokowi and Prabowo’s image, but also transcode the discursive construction  and contestation of  Jokowi and Prabowo’s image.Keywords: tweets and memes, Jokowi and Prabowo, Presidential election 2014, transitivity system, social semiotic, transcode.    AbstrakTulisan ini merupakan bagian dari penelitian multi tahun studi kasus berlapis tentang usulan acuan kebijakan partisipasi publik dalam kampanye politik di media sosial (dalam hal ini Twitter). Tulisan ini menganalisis data tweets dan memes para relawan/pendukung Jokowi dan Prabowo di Pemilu Presiden 2014 selama masa kampanye (4 Juni – 5 Juli 2014) yang diambil berdasarkan judgement sampling. Fokus studi kasus lapis pertama ini adalah pada analisis bahasa tulis (tweets) dan bahasa tulis dan visual (memes) relawan/pendukung kelompok Jokowi dan Prabowo guna membongkar mekanisme pengekspresian bahasa tulis dan visual para relawan pendukung kedua kubu selama masa kampanye dan melihat sejauhmana ekspresi yang digunakan mengarah pada kampanye hitam ataupun negatif. Teori sistem transitivitas Hallidayean digunakan untuk menganalisis variabel bahasa tweets dan semiotika sosial Kress dan van Leeuwen untuk menelaah teks visual (memes),  yang mana keduanya digunakan relawan/pendukung Jokowi dan Prabowo sebagai media dalam mengonstruksikan, menyerang balik lawan dan menggiring opini netizen dalam digital domocracy. Ditemukan pada tahapan ini tweets dan memes tidak hanya merepresentasikan cyberwar dalam bentuk kontestasi diskursif pengonstruksian citra Jokowi dan Prabowo, tetapi juga terjadi transkode wacana konstruksi dan kontestasi citra Jokowi/Prabowo. Kata kunci:  tweets dan memes, Jokowi dan Prabowo, Pemilu Presiden 2014, sistem transitivitas, semiotika sosial, transkode.

Abstract

Abstrak: Hasil PISA 2015 dan PIRLS 2011 menunjukkan rendahnya tingkat literasi siswa SMP Indonesia. Gerakan literasi nasional sekolah yang digerakkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan hanya dilakukan perminggu sebagai basis kegiatan sekolah yang membiasakan siswa membaca. Lokakarya ini (dirancang dalam pembelajaran partisipatif) yang bertujuan untuk melatih guru Bahasa Inggris SMPN untuk meningkatkan kompetensi literasi kritis mereka dengan meneliti fungsi sosial, struktur skema, dan fitur leksiko-gramatikal dari berbagai teks naratif. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan menyeleksi 200 calon peserta yang tergabung dalam Asosiasi Profesi Guru (Penggerak Pendidik Indonesia Jaya) menjadi 50 peserta yang memenuhi syarat berdasarkan desk evaluasi. Pra-tes dan lembar kerja diberikan kepada peserta terpilih sehari sebelum lokakarya. Lokakarya dilakukan dalam 2,5 jam melalui zoom. Post-test diberikan setelah pelatihan selesai. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman mengajar dan pelatihan guru tidak menunjukkan korelasi positif yang nyata dengan keterampilan tata bahasa dasar mereka. Para peserta juga membutuhkan pelatihan literasi kritis lebih lanjut dalam menarik kesimpulan dan memprediksi kemungkinan yang diperlukan secara berurutan dalam teks naratif. Persentase yang meningkat pada dimensi pengetahuan konseptual peserta direkomendasikan sebagai faktor yang dapat dikembangkan lebih lanjut untuk pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan para guru tersebut. Abstract:  The 2015 PISA’s result ad the 2011 PIRLS’ result showed the low level of Indonesian SMP students’ literacy. The national as well as school-based literacy movement propagated by the Ministry of Education and Culture merely demonstrated the weekly school-based celebration on student’s reading habits. This workshop (designed in participatory learning) aims to train SMPN English teachers to enhance their critical literacy competence by scrutinizing the social function, schematic structure and lexico-grammatical features of various narrative texts. This was conducted by selecting 200 prospective participants who joined the teacher’s professional association (Penggerak Pendidik Indonesia Jaya) into 50 eligible ones based on their desk evaluation. Pre-test and worksheet were assigned to the selected participants one day prior to the workshop. The workshop was conducted in 2.5 hours via zoom. Post-test was given after the workshop completed. The results show that the teachers’ teaching as well as training experiences do not show overt positive correlation with their basic grammatical skills. The participants also need further critical literacy training on drawing conclusion and predicting possibilities entailing sequential events in the narrative texts. The escalated percentage on the participants’ conceptual knowledge dimension is recommended as the factor that they can further develop for their continuous professional development.

Abstract

Abstrak: Literasi kritis siswa SMP di Indonesia berada pada level 1a, yaitu mereka hanya mampu memahami informasi eksplisit dalam mengidentifikasi ide pokok dan ide pendukung dari teks pendek dengan tema umum (PISA, 2018). Hal ini memerlukan penanganan lebih lanjut berupa pelatihan literasi kritis untuk teks yang lebih rumit. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk melatih kompetensi literasi kritis (khususnya dalam hal ini membaca) bagi guru bahasa Inggris tingkat SMP di wilayah terdepan, terluar dan tertinggal terkait dengan membaca teks deskriptif. Kegiatan ini dilakukan bersama 25 peserta guru bahasa Inggris di Kabupaten Mimika, Papua. Pretest diberikan kepada peserta sebelum workshop. Workshop ini dilakukan dalam waktu 3,5 jam melalui zoom meeting. Post-test diberikan setelah pelatihan selesai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman mengajar dan melatih guru di Kabupaten Mimika, Papua, tidak menunjukkan korelasi yang signifikan dengan kemampuan bahasa Inggris dasar mereka. Rata-rata hasil pre-test menunjukkan 25% yang dibandingkan dengan rata-rata hasil post-test 30% yang mana terdapat kenaikan sebesar 5%. Dengan demikian, ditemukan bahwa hasil didominasi oleh dimensi konseptual pengetahuan peserta guru bahasa Inggris. Dengan kata lain, peserta membutuhkan pelatihan literasi kritis lebih lanjut dalam membaca kritis teks deskriptif dengan menekankan pelatihan keterampilan dasar bahasa Inggris sebagai faktor yang perlu dikembangkan lebih lanjut sebelum literasi kritis.Abstract: The critical literacy of junior high school students in Indonesia is at level 1a, i.e. they are only able to understand explicit information in identifying main and supporting ideas of the short texts with general themes (PISA, 2018). This requires further handling in the form of training in critical literacy for more complicated texts. This community service activity was aimed at training critical literacy (especially in this case reading) competencies for English teachers at the junior high school level in the region of forefront, outermost and left behind especially related to reading descriptive texts, i.e. the fundamental texts that describe the action for categorization and classification. This activity was carried out with 25 participants of English teachers in Mimika District, Papua. Pre-test were given to participants prior to the workshop. This workshop was conducted in 3.5 hour-time via zoom meeting. The post-test was given after the training completed. The results showed that the experience of teaching and training teachers in Mimika District, Papua, did not show a significant correlation with their basic English skills. The average of pre-test results showed 25% compared to the average of post-test results showed 30% which was an increase of 5%. Thus, it was found that the results were dominated by the conceptual dimension of the participants’ knowledge of English teachers. By this, the participants need further critical literacy training in critically reading the descriptive texts by accentuating the basic English skills as the factor that needs to be further developed prior to critical literacy.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS) telah bergulir selama lima tahun sehingga program ini perlu dievaluasi keberhasilannya di ranah satuan pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan kegiatan literasi terhadap prestasi belajar siswa di SMP Negeri 107 Jakarta. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII dan kelas IX berjumlah 216 orang. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah penyebaran kuesioner, wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak ada pengaruh kegiatan literasi terhadap prestasi belajar siswa SMP Negeri 107 Jakarta. Kegiatan literasi yang telah berjalan juga kurang efektif karena 1) siswa terlalu berfokus pada kegiatan merangkum daripada memahami bacaan, 2) tidak semua guru melakukan kegiatan tindak lanjut berupa tanggapan secara lisan dan tulisan, 3) tidak semua siswa memiliki kemampuan menggunakan strategi membaca, 4) tidak semua siswa menggunakan strategi membaca untuk memahami teks, dan 5) jumlah siswa yang menggunakan sumber nonpelajaran untuk memperkaya pengetahuan dalam mata pelajaran belum terlalu banyak.

Abstract

The upcoming gubernatorial election of Jakarta province (pilkada) in 2017 can arguably be perceived as the arena where the scrutiny of the relationship between (religious) majority and minority groups controversially takes place. In the stage of constructing the positive political image of the candidate, the supporters/volunteers at the same time counter, criticize and contest the political image the opponents’ construct. One of the supporters/volunteers who perpetually demonstrate their faithful support for the incumbent governor is Jasmev (Jokowi Ahok Media Volunteer). Deploying Hallidayian transitivity system, this paper focuses on the language Jasmev employed in the constructing Basuki Tjahaja Purnama’s (Ahok) image and contesting the opponents’ image in the Facebook. They position Ahok as the most suitable candidate that is believed capable in accelerating the urban and city development of Jakarta. Ahok is also framed in the language that purportedly exhibits religious tolerance, social equity and equality, clean and accountable governance. The data were taken since the moment Ahok declared himself as the candidate up to September 2016. It was found that the language they deployed lies in the obscurity of the negative and black campaign, especially when they contest the political image of their opponents.

Abstract

The lack of knowledge about the application of maxims and politeness scale in everyday life cause more violation of politeness in communication. Speech deviations also occur in the Uang Panai Mahar film which raises the cultural theme of a moral message..This study aims to discuss and describe the maxims deviation and politeness conversation from film. The data of this study are the form of maxims deviation and politeness scale by using Leech perspective. The data source in this study is Uang Panai Mahar film, which published by Makita Cinema Production, on August 25, 2016. The film lasted for 1 hour, 59 minutes and 42 seconds. This study used descriptive qualitative method. This study found out some of maxims deviations and politeness scales, they were 1) deviation of wisdom, 2) deviation of generosity, 3) deviation of rewards, 4) deviation of simplicity, 5) deviation of accuracy and 6) deviation of sympathy. Meanwhile the politeness scale of this film were 1) the loss and gain scale, 2) the choice scale, 3) the sustainability scale and 4) social distance scale.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Recently, there has been a huge increase of sexuality construction studies in literature field including in Young Adult genre. Ash novel is one of young adult genre retelling the classic fairy tale story of Cinderella with the gendering plot twist of the main female character. Instead of construct the main characters to heterosexual, Malinda Lo deconstructs her gender and sexual identity. The aim of this research will focuses on investigating the relationship between the elements of psychosexual development and sexuality construction in the narratives that change the main character’s gender and sexual identity. This research are using 5 stages of development theory by Sigmund Freud and performativity theory by Judith Butler. To analyze the narratives, this research is using deconstruction theory by Jaques Derrida as methodology approach. The gendering process and sexuality construction to lesbian appears in several events that bring the main character questioning the masculine role and construct her identity by the dominant stepmother. Abstract

This text-oriented discourse analysis aims to evaluate and compare the language voiced by the two Islamic female clerics’ (Ustazah Aisah Dahlan and Mamah Dedeh) in their preaching as well as their stances towards the Discourse of Muslim Woman’s Body, Sexuality and Domestication posted on their affiliated Youtube accounts during this Covid-19 pandemic. The data (two video transcripts with the duration 09 minutes 04 seconds and 42 minutes and 54 seconds, respectively) were taken based on stratified purposeful sampling. Using transitivity system (ideational metafunction of language) postulated by M.A.K. Halliday(2014) and language evaluation theory (interpersonal metafunction of language) developed by Martin and White (2005), it was found that Aisah Dahlan’s preaching was dominated by attributive relational process and positive judgment in heteroglossic expressions to justify Muslim men’s attitudes and behaviors, whereas negative judgment in force expressions were deployed in discussing the Muslim woman’s body, sexuality, and domestication discourse. On the contrary, Mamah Dedeh’s preaching was dominated by the material process and positive judgement of sanction which indicates that husband and wife share equal responsibility in the household.Keywords: Ustazah, Text-Oriented Discourse Analysis, Muslim Woman’s Body, Islamic views on Sexuality, Domestication of  woman, Transitivity analysis, appraisal analysis
