Abstract

Starch and sago waste are some of the raw materials most prospective to be developed into bioethanol. This activity aims to provide technical assistance in making bioethanol from starch and sago waste for sago farming communities in Sungai Tabuk District, Banjar, South Kalimantan. This activity is carried out in two stages, namely socialization and technical assistance in making bioethanol from starch and sago waste, as well as monitoring and evaluation. Technical socialization and assistance, including internal monitoring and evaluation, have been carried out by the implementation team for target communities. A total of 24 farmers who are members of sago cooperatives in the local area participated in socialization activities and technical assistance in making bioethanol from starch and sago waste. They were very enthusiastic to participate in the activity, as seen from the atmosphere of the discussion and the results of the questionnaire they filled out. In the next activity, several people were accompanied and intensively trained to make bioethanol using tools designed and made by the implementation team. As a result, these activities generally meet the targets and outputs of this activity, namely: (1) Increasing insight of sago farmers in Sungai Tabuk sub-district, South Kalimantan to utilize the starch and sago waste they produce into bioethanol products; (2) The establishment of a pilot project to make bioethanol from starch and sago waste on a small industrial scale managed by sago farming communities; (3) Good cooperation between the implementation team and the local sago farmers, and (4) Bioethanol products produced from starch and sago waste with unknown concentration levels.

Abstract

Abstrak Kelompok Tani Timbul Tani Desa Abumbun Jaya Kecamatan Sungai Tabuk mengelola lahan rawa untuk budidaya padi sawah yang ditanam secara polikultur dengan tanaman hortikultura dengan sistem surjan.  Tanaman cabai besar merupakan tanaman andalan yang dibudidayakan sejak tahun 2020.  Permasalahan yang dihadapi petani setempat saat ini adalah penurunan produksi cabai jauh di bawah potensi hasil serta serangan organisme pengganggu tanaman.  Bimbingan teknis mengenai budidaya cabai besar sistem surjan di lahan rawa telah dilakukan pada bulan Agustus 2024 di Balai Penyuluhan Pertanian Kecamatan Sungai Tabuk.  Kegiatan ini berbasis permasalahan pada pengolahan lahan dan tindak budidaya cabai pada lahan sub optimal rawa. Mitra sasaran adalah kelompok tani Timbul Tani dengan kategori masyarakat produktif secara ekonomi. Metode pelaksanaan adalah ceramah dan diskusi. Narasumber adalah tim pengabdi.  Petani menyatakan bahwa kegiatan ini sangat berharga karena petani dapat menyampaikan permasalahan yang dihadapi di lapangan dan bertukar pengalaman dalam melakukan budidaya.  Saat ini, petani telah melakukan rotasi tanaman untuk meningkatkan produktivitas cabai besar di lahan rawa pada pertanaman selanjutnya. Kata kunci: hortikultura; kelompok tani; pengabdian masyarakat; kearifan lokal. Abstract The Timbul Tani Farmer Group in Abumbun Jaya Village, Sungai Tabuk District, manages swamp land for cultivating lowland rice planted in polyculture with horticultural plants using the surjan system. Large chili plants are the mainstay plants that have been cultivated since 2020. The problems currently faced by local farmers are a decrease in chili production far below the potential yield and attacks by plant pests. Technical guidance on cultivating large chilies using the surjan system in swamp land was carried out in August 2024 at the Balai Penyuluhan Pertanian of Sungai Tabuk District. This activity is based on the problems faced in order to increase chili production in Abumbun Jaya Village. The target partners are the Timbul Tani farmer groups with an economically productive community category.. The implementation method is lectures and discussions. The resource person is a community service team. Farmers stated that this activity was very valuable because farmers could convey the problems faced in the field and exchange experiences in carrying out cultivation. This activity is expected to continue to help farmers increase the production of large chilies. Keywords: horticulture; farmer groups; community service; local wisdom.
