Abstract

ABSTRACTCandida albicans is a normal flora in the female genitalia which can cause vaginal discharge. White galangal rhizome contains essential oils of eugenol which have activities that inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. This study formulated the white galangal rhizome essential oil in the form of feminime hygiene to make it easier and more comfortable to use and to determine the antiseptic feminime hygiene activity of the white galangal rhizome oil of Candida albicans. The essential oil of white galangal rhizome is formulated in three variations of concentration namely 10%, 15% and 20%. Feminime hygiene of essential white galangal rhizome oil was evaluated such as organoleptic, homogeneity, specific gravity, foam power test, viscosity, pH and stability. Antiseptic activity testing was tested with SDA (Sabouraud Dextrose Agar) media and using agar diffusion method. The results of the feminime hygiene evaluation formulated showed results similar to the results of comparative evaluations (BN). The parameters of antiseptic activity are indicated by the formation of inhibitory zone diameters where F0 (negative control), F1 (10%), F2 (15%), and F3 (20%) respectively have an average diameter value of 11 mm, 14.65 mm 17.58 mm and 25.41 mm. The classification category of the response to microbial growth according to CLSI, F0 and F1 includes the weak group, the F2 is the moderate group and the F3 is the strong group. Based on the results of one-way ANOVA statistical analysis there were significant differences in liquid soap preparations F0, F1, F2 with F3 at (P <0.05). White galangal rhizome essential oil can be formulated into feminine hygiene and has antiseptic activity against the fungus Candida albicans. Keywords: white galangal, antiseptic, candida albicans

Abstract

ABSTRACT Whitening lotion is a mixture of chemicals or other ingredients with properties that can whiten the skin or blemish black (brown) on the skin. The use of mercury in whitening lotions can cause a variety of things, ranging from skin discoloration which can ultimately cause black spots on the skin, allergies and skin irritation. The using of mercury in high dose can cause permanent brain damageand cancer. An analysis of mercury content in the whitening lotion brands A, B and C circulating at market in Padang city has been conducted. Extraction of mercury in the whitening lotion was done by wet destruction with a concentrated HNO3 solution and concentrated H2SO4 for 2 hours at a temperature of ± 95°C until a clear solution is obtained. The clear solution was measured by absorption with an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer using a mercury hollow cathode lamp at a wavelength of 253.7 nm. The results of this study were samples of brands A, B and C detected containing mercury metals with successive levels of 0.3347 μg /g; 0,7917 μg /g and 0,7981 μg/ g. The whitening lotions that circulate in market do not meet the Head of BPOM RI Regulation No.18 of 2015 whose contents prohibit the use of mercury in cosmetics preparations. Abstract

One of the cosmetics that is widely used topically is lotion, which consists of two phases that do not mix, and can be stabilized using an emulsifying agent. Cetyl alcohol and cera alba have properties as softeners, emulsifiers and absorb water which were chosen as emulsifying agents because they can improve the texture of the preparation. The aim of this research was to see the effect of varying concentrations of cetyl alcohol and cera alba as emulsifying agents in VCO lotion preparations. The research design in this study was pre-experimental with the lotion formula divided into 4 sample groups with different concentrations of cetyl alcohol and cera alba. Physical property tests carried out include organoleptic tests, pH tests, homogeneity tests, spreadability tests and lotion type. The results showed that variations in the concentration of cetyl alcohol and cera alba did not show differences in organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability and type of lotion for all formulas. It can be concluded that in making VCO lotion with varying concentrations of cetyl alcohol and cera alba it does not affect the physical properties of the lotion

Abstract

Because of insufficient education, the rising trend of people self-medicating poses a threat to proper drug handling, storage, and disposal. According to RISKESDAS (2013), there is a lot of medication storage, antibiotic overuse (without a prescription), and medication mistakes. The Painan Nagari Health Post in IV Jurai District, Pesisir Selatan Regency, which does not yet have chemists, implemented DAGUSIBU (Get, Use, Store, Throw Away) education initiatives to address this issue. Midwives and other health workers were socialised at the Health Post in July 2024 as part of the activity, which also included the erection of educational posters. The activity's outcomes demonstrated that participants' understanding of rational drug management, particularly the need of avoiding medication mistakes and improper disposal, had improved. By preparing students to serve their communities in response to actual needs, DAGUSIBU programs help fulfil the tridharma of higher education and make health care providers more effective change agents in the field of public health. In Painan Nagari, this endeavour may pave the way for long-term progress in public health.
