Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of hydration status (HS) and the exercise-induced muscle oxygen desaturation ratio (SmO2 Ratio) on physical performance, represented by VO2Max, in adolescent badminton club athletes. Method: A quantitative correlational approach with multiple linear regression and path analysis was used. Ten adolescent athletes (aged 12–15 years) from PB. Mutiara Cardinal Bandung participated as research subjects, selected through purposive sampling. Hydration status was measured post-exercise using a Tanita Body Composition Analyzer (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis/BIA), while muscle oxygen desaturation was monitored in real time using a Moxy Monitor (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy/NIRS) during a standardized Beep Test. Data were analyzed using correlation, regression, and path analysis. Results: Hydration status showed no significant relationship with either the SmO2 Ratio (r = -0.302, p = 0.396) or VO2Max (r = -0.240, p = 0.505). In contrast, the SmO2 Ratio showed a very strong and significant correlation with VO2Max (r = 0.859, p = 0.001), explaining 73.8% of its variance. Path analysis showed that hydration status influenced VO2Max mainly through the SmO2 Ratio. Muscle oxygen utilization efficiency, as measured by the SmO2 Ratio, is the dominant physiological determinant of aerobic performance in adolescent badminton athletes, surpassing the contribution of hydration status when athletes maintain normal hydration levels. Abstract

Monitoring physiological responses in badminton athletes remains challenging because conventional methods are often unable to provide real-time information regarding local muscle oxygen utilization and fatigue development. This study aimed to examine the relationships among muscle oxygen saturation ratio (SmO₂ Ratio), Fatigue Index, and maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂Max) in badminton athletes using real-time muscle oxygenation monitoring. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 10 competitive badminton athletes from PB Mutiara Cardinal, Bandung, Indonesia. Muscle oxygen saturation was measured using the MOXY Monitor based on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) technology, Fatigue Index was assessed through the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), and VO₂Max was estimated using the 20-meter Multistage Shuttle Run Test. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and path analysis. The results showed that (1) SmO₂ Ratio was not significantly related to Fatigue Index (r = 0.463, p = 0.177); (2) SmO₂ Ratio was significantly associated with VO₂Max (r = 0.859, p = 0.001), explaining 73.8% of its variance; (3) Fatigue Index was also significantly related to VO₂Max (r = 0.763, p = 0.010); and (4) SmO₂ Ratio and Fatigue Index jointly explained 90.8% of the variance in VO₂Max. It can be concluded that SmO₂ Ratio is a strong physiological predictor of aerobic capacity and that real-time MOXY monitoring provides a practical approach for evaluating physiological status and supporting performance optimization in badminton athletes. Abstract

participating in school karate extracurricular programs based on gender and educational level. The research employed a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional causal-comparative design. The participants consisted of 60 active junior and senior high school karate athletes from BKC Banjar City selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Life Skills Scale for Sport (LSSS), comprising 47 items that assess (1) teamwork, (2) goal setting, (3) social skills, (4) problem-solving, (5) emotional skills, (6) interpersonal communication, (7) leadership, and (8) time management. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Two-Way ANOVA. The results revealed that (1) the overall life skills level of adolescent karate athletes was categorized as very high, with a mean score of 4.85 (SD = 0.36); (2) male karate athletes demonstrated slightly higher life skills scores (M = 4.88; SD = 0.33) than female athletes (M = 4.83; SD = 0.38); (3) senior high school athletes showed higher scores (M = 4.88; SD = 0.34) compared to junior high school athletes (M = 4.80; SD = 0.41); and (4) the Two-Way ANOVA results indicated that gender (p = 0.046), educational level (p = 0.039), and the interaction between gender and educational level (p = 0.047) had significant effects on life skills. These findings suggest that karate extracurricular activities play an important role in fostering students' life skills development, which is influenced by both gender and educational level factors. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the muscle oxygen saturation (SmO₂) profile of badminton athletes using the Moxy Monitor, to examine its relationship with the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems, and to evaluate its potential as a basis for designing physical conditioning programs. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method involving 10 badminton athletes from PB Mutiara Cardinal Bandung, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through SmO₂ measurements using the Moxy Monitor during physical testing, along with physical condition measurements based on biomotor parameters. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and path analysis. The results showed that the SmO₂ Ratio had a significant relationship with aerobic capacity (r = 0.766; p = 0.010) and physical condition (r = 0.727; p = 0.017), but no significant relationship with anaerobic capacity (r = 0.361; p = 0.305). Aerobic capacity had a very strong relationship with physical condition (r = 0.966; p = 0.000), while anaerobic capacity also showed a significant relationship (r = 0.810; p = 0.004). These findings indicate that an SmO₂-based energy system profile can be used as a physiological indicator for designing more precise physical conditioning programs based on the individual needs of badminton athletes. Abstract

Leg power is one of the biomotor components that greatly determines the success of long jump athletes, especially in the take-off phase. One of the most widely used training methods to increase leg muscle explosive power is plyometric training, which utilizes the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) mechanism. However, research on the effectiveness of plyometric training in adolescent long jump athletes in Indonesia remains limited. This study aims to determine the effect of a plyometric training program on increasing leg power in adolescent long jump athletes and to analyze the effect size of the program. The study used a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 10 adolescent long jump athletes selected using a total sampling technique. Leg power was measured using the 30-Second Sit-to-Stand (30s STS) test before and after the plyometric training program. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Paired Samples t-test, and Cohen's d calculation to measure effect size at a significance level of 5%. The results showed: (1) the average pretest score was 49.40, while the average posttest score increased to 54.90, with an average increase of 5.50 points; (2) the normality test showed that the pretest (Sig. = 0.953) and posttest (Sig. = 0.999) data were normally distributed; (3) the Paired Samples t-test showed a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores; (4) the Cohen's d analysis yielded a value of 2.09, indicating that the plyometric training program had a huge positive effect on increasing athletes' leg power. It can therefore be concluded that the plyometric training program is effective and has a significant effect on increasing leg power in adolescent long jump athletes. Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PE) plays an important role in supporting students' physical, mental, and social development; however, in practice it is still frequently regarded as a secondary subject compared to academic subjects. This study aims to analyze teachers' and parents' perceptions of the importance of PE in school learning and to identify whether there are differences in perception between both groups. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, involving 60 respondents consisting of 30 teachers and 30 parents selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was a closed questionnaire with a Likert scale, while data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test. The results showed thatboth teachers' and parents' perceptions of the importance of PE were in the positive category, with teachers' mean scores higher than those of parents. However, the t-test results indicated no significant difference between the two groups. These findings suggest that teachers and parents fundamentally share relatively aligned views regarding the urgency of PE in learning. Thus, this study concludes that although descriptive differences exist, the shared perceptions between teachers and parents open opportunities to strengthen collaboration in supporting PE learning in schools more optimally.

Abstract

Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) allows real-time assessment of muscle oxygenation via muscle oxygen saturation (SmO₂). This study investigated how skeletal muscle mass (SMM) influences the SmO₂ ratio and physical performance in adolescent badminton players. Using a quasi-experimental, one-time case study design, ten adolescent athletes from PB Mutiara Cardinal Bandung were selected by purposive sampling. SMM was measured with a Tanita Body Composition Analyzer, SmO₂ ratio recorded by a NIRS-based Moxy Monitor, and aerobic capacity (VO₂Max) estimated through the Bleep Test. Data underwent descriptive analysis, Shapiro–Wilk normality testing, linearity assessment, and simple linear regression. Results indicated a positive association between SMM and SmO₂ ratio (R = 0.625; R² = 0.390; Sig = 0.053), with SMM accounting for 39.0% of SmO₂ ratio variance, though this relationship did not reach statistical significance. Conversely, SMM showed a significant positive effect on physical performance (R = 0.709; R² = 0.503; Sig = 0.022), explaining 50.3% of VO₂Max variance. These results imply that while greater skeletal muscle mass predicts better aerobic performance in adolescent badminton athletes, it is not the primary determinant of SmO₂ ratio.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Physical Education, Sports, and Health learning at the senior high school level. The research focuses on three key aspects: planning, classroom implementation, and assessment practices. A qualitative case study design was applied in two schools,  Jatinangor High School and Al-Aqsha High school Plus. Data were collected through semi structured interviews, direct classroom observations, and document analysis, including the Education Unit Operational Curriculum, Learning Objectives Flow, and teaching modules. Data were analyzed using the stages of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with source and technique triangulation to ensure credibility. The findings show that teachers have aligned learning plans with Learning Outcomes and translated them into structured objectives and contextual teaching modules. Instruction emphasizes student centered learning through differentiated activities based on students’ physical abilities and participation levels. Teachers act as facilitators who guide active engagement and skill development. Assessment practices apply authentic and continuous evaluation covering attitudes, knowledge, and motor skills through observation, performance tasks, and reflection. Institutional support, including principal supervision and adequate sports facilities, strengthens curriculum implementation. However, uneven access to training and variations in teacher readiness remain challenges. Overall, the Merdeka Curriculum in Physical Education demonstrates strong potential to improve learning quality when supported by consistent professional development and school level commitment.

Abstract

Differences in students daily physical activity patterns also contribute to variations in their fundamental movement skills. This study aims to analyze the comparison of basic movement skills and Body Mass Index (BMI) of low-grade elementary school students in schools with full day systems and regular schools. The research method used is quantitative and comparative with an ex post facto approach. The research sample amounted to 96 elementary school students in Cibeunying Kaler District, consisting of 48 regular school students and 48 full-day school students, with a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument used basic motion skill tests which included locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movements, as well as BMI measurements based on WHO standards. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and inferentially using parametric statistical tests. The results of the study showed that the basic movement skills of regular school students were higher than that of full-day school students. In addition, full-day school students have a higher percentage of obesity BMI than regular school students. These findings suggest that differences in learning systems have the potential to affect physical activity, basic movement skills, and students' BMI conditions. The conclusion is that differences in the education system and BMI categories are associated with variations in students’ fundamental movement skills, where regular school students and those with normal BMI tend to demonstrate better performance.

Abstract

Adolescents tend to engage more in passive activities than in physical activities, which leads to decreased physical fitness and quality of life. This study aims to analyze the level of physical fitness, quality of life, and distribution of Body Mass Index (BMI) in Pelita Fajar Junior High School students. The study used a quantitative descriptive method with a total sampling technique involving 47 students. Physical fitness measurement uses the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI) aged 13–15 years, which includes running 50 meters, hanging from the elbows, lying down, jumping upright, and running 800/1000 meters. Quality of life was measured using a questionnaire that included four domains, namely physical, psychological, social, and environmental. The results showed that the physical fitness level of students was dominated by medium (38.3%) and low (29.8%) categories, and there was no very good category. The quality of life of students is mostly in the moderate category (53.2%). Correlation analysis showed a strong relationship between quality of life domains with correlation coefficient values ranging from r = 0.653 to 0.714. BMI distribution is dominated by underweight (40.4%) and normal (38.3%) categories. Students with normal BMI had a higher median physical fitness (≈14) than the underweight (≈13), overweight (≈12), and obesity (≈12.5) categories. These findings show that BMI balance plays a role in supporting physical fitness as well as being related to students' quality of life.
