Abstract

As one of required subjects in University level for EFL class, reading should be learned by the students to their own way and strategy so that their reading comprehension has better progress. Unfortunately, reading can be a difficult subject for them even though they are English department students. Internal and external can be the two factors for them in learning it. Academic self-management is one of internal psychological factor defined as learning strategy used by foreign learner to control various factors influenced their learning process specifically reading comprehension. Reading anxiety can be the threats of self-concept caused by limited knowledge and foreign language skill. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of academic self-management and reading anxiety toward English reading comprehension. The researcher uses quantitative research by using expost facto design. Random sampling is chosen as sampling technique in this research and English department students of Riau Kepulauan University in Batam as the population. Instruments used by the researcher are questionnaire to assess the students’ academic self-management and their reading anxiety. Moreover, test is used for measuring the students’ reading comprehension. The data was analyzed by using Two-Way ANAVA and then continues to Tuckey test. The result shows that there was effect of academic self-management and reading anxiety toward the students reading comprehension, the score of Qcount bigger than Qtable (12,22>3,07). Then, it was also found that students reading comprehension having low reading anxiety differ to students having high reading anxiety in which Qcount(3.47)> Q table (2.89). Besides that, students higher reading anxiety having high academic self-management were showed different to students low reading anxiety and having high reading anxiety. It was calculated that Qcount (9.00)> Qtable (3.01). In contrary, it was counted that Qcount (-0.08)<Q table (3.01) means there was no difference students lower academic self-management having low reading anxiety and high reading anxiety in reading comprehension

Abstract

Ekoenzim menggunakan bahan baku yang mudah didapat dan murah. Proses fermentasinya yang selama 3 bulan, memang membutuhkan kesabaran tersendiri. Namun, larutan yang dihasilkan memiliki khasiat yang sangat banyak. Dalam proses fermentasinya saja, sudah terus dihasilkan gas O3 (ozon) yang sangat dibutuhkan atmosfer bumi. Larutan ekoenzim bila dicampur dengan air, akan bereaksi serta dapat digunakan sebagai cairan pembersih mulai dari piring, lantai, pakaian, kakus, sampai dengan pencuci rambut dan sabun mandi. Bila dibutuhkan, juga bisa melancarkan saluran air yang tersumbat. Campuran dengan air bila digunakan untuk menyiram tanaman akan memberi hasil buah, bunga, atau panen yang lebih baik.disamping itu  juga dapat mengusir serangga-serangga pengganggu. Ampas sampah organik yang sudah difermentasi bisa digunakan sebagai pupuk organik yang baik. Selain ramah lingkungan limbah rumah tangga bisa menjadikan nilai ekonomis bagi warga RW 07 Kec.Sagulung Kota Batam karena selain lingkungan menjadi bersih juga tidak memerlukan biaya yang mahal untuk memperolehnya. Dengan memperkenalkan pengelolan limbah rumah tangga dengan ekoenzim. Manfaat yang ada dari ekoenzim adalah bisa melancarkan saluran air yang tersumbat. Elain itu, bisa juga digunakan untuk menyiram tanaman akan memberi hasil buah, bunga, atau panen yang lebih dan dapat mengusir serangga-serangga pengganggu. Ampas sampah organik yang sudah difermentasi bisa digunakan sebagai bahan untuk kebersihan dan juga sebagai pupuk organik yang baik.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the interaction of academic self management and reading anxiety in English reading comprehension, the difference of students high and low reading anxiety in reading comprehension, the difference of reading comprehension students having higher academic self management have high and low reading anxiety and the difference between low academic self management that have high and low reading anxiety in reading comprehension. Expost facto was employed as the design of the study with Riau Kepulauan University as the population. To measure students reading anxiety and academic self management, it was used questionnaires. Furthermore, reading test was used for measuring the students’ reading comprehension. Data analysis used Two –Way ANAVA, then Tuckey Test. It was found that there was difference between high and low reading anxiety students in which  Qcount(3.47) Q table (2.89). Then the interaction showed students academic self management and reading anxiety in reading comprehension, the score of Qcount bigger than Qtable (12,223,07). Next, high academic self management between high and low reading anxiety was found different. It was counted that Qcount (9.00) Qtable (3.01). In contrast, there was no difference of reading comprehension between students low academic self management having and low reading anxiety. Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out whether team-pair-solo is effective to students’ reading comprehension. The research design was quantitative research with experimental design. The research conducted in August 2016. The population in this research was the eleventh grade students of SMA K Yos Sudarso Batam  in the academic years of 2016/2017. Two classes were selected two from the population as sample in this study they were XI A2 and XI A3. The number of the students used as the sample in this research was 60 students. The sample was selected cluster sampling technique. To identify student competence, the writer gave the test before treatment (pre-test) and after treatment (post-test). The result of data analyzing was shown that in after test the mean of experiment class was higher (77.16) than control class (63.83). In the end of hypothesis testing, the writer found that there was significant effect of team-pair-solo to students’ reading comprehension. It means that team-pair-solo able to encourage the students to comprehend the text well

Abstract

The study was aimed to describe kinds of speech function that used by the main character in A Little Princess novel. It was found in some statements from Sara Crewe in this novel. The research design applied qualitative research in which used the theory from Janet Holmes to categorize the utterances derived from list of data found in A Little Princess novel into 8 kinds of speech function (expressive, directive, referential, metalinguistic, phatic, poetic, heuristic and commissive). All of the classified data was interpreted concern with description of situation. Each of them was analysed based on Holmes’  theory. The result of this research showed that there found fifty Crewe’s utterances contained only five speech functions terms: expressive, directive, referential, phatic and commissive. From the result of the data analysis, it showed that the most dominant kind of speech function that used by Sara Crewe is expressive function as much as twenty utterances.It is hoped that by understanding kinds of speech functions and the use of them can help us create good communication and relationship with others. People need to understand the meaning to get the point to give appropriate responds to the speakers. Moreover, for EFL students, it can be contributed as one of analysis in sociolinguitics learning so that they can apply them in their utterances or statements. Lastly, it is hoped that this study can enrich the research in linguistics field especially for the term of speech function

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat hubungan antara kecerdasan linguistik verbal dan kemampuan membaca teks L2 (Bahasa Inggris) pada mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Riau Kepulauan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitafif dengan desain penelitian korelasi dimana terdapat dua variabel yaitu kecerdasan linguistik verbal sebagai variabel bebas dan kemampuan membaca teks L2 sebagai variabel terikat. Data penelitian didapatkan dengan menggunakan tes intelegensi verbal dan tes membaca (reading test). Sebelum dilaksanakan uji hipotesis, tes normalitas dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah sebaran data dalam kategori normal atau tidak. Berdasarkan tes normalitas, diketahui bahwa Lhitung = 0.087 yaitu lebih rendah dari Ltabel= 0,1269 , artinya data berdistribusi normal dan dapat dilakukan uji hipotesis. Uji hipotesis dilakukan dengan menggunakan Pearson Product Moment untuk mengetahui tingkat hubungan antara kedua variabel, dengan hasil sebagai berikut, rcount = 0,680; dimana rhitung = 0,235 n=48 pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Kemudian, t test dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah hubungan antara kedua variabel tersebut signifikan atau tidak. Adapun hasil dari t test adalah6.29 yaitu lebih tinggi dari ttabel = 2.013 Maka, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kecerdasan linguistik verbal dan kemampuan membaca teks L2.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out whether tea party strategy gave a significant effect towards students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 23 Batam in academic year 2019/2020. This research used a quantitative approach. In this research, experimental method was used as the method. The researcher focused on quasi experimental. The population was the students at the tenth grade students that consisted 0f 288 students that selected by using cluster sampling technique. The sample was two classes as experimental and control class. The researcher used quantitative data by giving pre-test and post-test to measure the students’ reading comprehension. The result of this research was the data gotten by giving pre-test and post-test. The result of calculating t-test was tcount < ttable (0.895 < 1.997), it means that Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. Therefore, there was no significant effect of tea party strategy towards students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 23 Batam. However, Tea Party strategy could encourage the student more active in the learning process and it could create an enjoyable learning atmosphere. The tea party strategy could increase teamwork between students, could improve the students’ critical thinking, and could improve the students' confidence and students' interest in learning reading comprehension. Therefore, the teacher could carry out the tea party strategy in reading comprehension to improve the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

Student’s listening comprehension could be affected by several factors, one of the factors is student’s cultural intelligence. It is an ability to grasp and reason correctly any problem as education, government, business, and academic research. This study aimed to find out the correlation between students’ cultural intelligence and their listening comprehension at first semester students of English Department Universitas Riau Kepulauan in the academic year of 2020/2021. The data of the research were students’ cultural intelligence scores derived from cultural intelligence scale and student’s listening comprehension from IELTS listening tests. The population of the research were 28 students of first semester of English Department of Universitas Riau Kepulauan. Before testing the hypothesis, a normality test was conducted by using saphiro wilk to ensure that the data were in normal distribution. The data of cultural intelligence had a significance value of 0.397 and 0.372 for listening comprehension which is bigger than 0.05 with the degree of freedom 28. Therefore, it can be concluded that the data of listening comprehension and cultural intelligence were normal. After conducting the hypothesis, it was found out that rcalculated(0.217) is lower than rtable(0.374). The finding of the study concluded that there was no significant correlation between students’ cultural intelligence and students’ listening comprehension. However, the positive correlation implied that possessing higher cultural intelligence might be beneficial for student’s listening comprehension.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out whether there is a correlation between students' writing self-perception and students' writing skill. The research design used in this research was quantitative correlational research. The populations in this study were 25 students of tenth grade students of SMA Integral Hidayatullah Batam in academic years 2020/2021. The population was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The sample in this research was 14 students. Writing Self-Perception Scale (WSPS) and Writing Test were used as instruments of this study after the validity and reliability tests of the two instruments were conducted. The data normality test used in this study was Saphiro Wilk. The researcher analyzed the correlation using the Pearson Product Moment formula to find out correlation between Students’ Writing Self-Perception and Students’ Writing Skill at tenth grade students of SMA Integral Hidayatullah Batam in academic years 2020/2021. The research found out that there was a significant correlation between Students' Writing Self-Perception and Students' Writing Skill at tenth grade students of SMA Integral Hidayatullah Batam in the Academic Year 2020/2021. Suggestions were taken by researcher, namely that teachers can find writing activities to support the students to have a positive writing self-perception.

Abstract

Berdasarkan survei awal, ditemukan adanya mahasiswa yang melakukan prokrastinasi akademik, seperti telat masuk perkuliahan padahal sudah berada di lokasi kampus, telat mengumpulkan tugas, telat mengumpulkan admnistrasi yang diperlukan oleh pihak kampus, dan lain sebagainya. Hal ini disebabkan karena kurangnya kesadaran diri pada mahasiswa bahwa mereka bisa mengumpulkan tepat waktu dan kurangnya motivasi dari dalam diri.Tujuan umum penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat hubungan antara self efficacy dan motivasi instrinsik dengan prokrastinasi akademik mahasiswa Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Riau Kepulauan (UNRIKA).Tujuan khusus penelitian ini adalah agar mahasiswa dapat menambah pengetahuan dan mampu mengaplikasikannya dalam perkuliahan agar mengurangi terjadinya prokrastinasi akademik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian korelasional.  Pemilihan subjek penelitian menggunakan cluster sampling yang berjumlah 160 orang mahasiswa. Teknik pengambilan data dengan menggunakan angket sebanyak 3 untuk variabel self efficacy, motivasi intrinsik, dan prokrastinasi akademik. Penelitian ini diolah dengan menggunakan analisis regresi berganda dengan program SPSS. Dari hasil analisis, didapat bahwa koefisien korelasi ganda (R) = 0,556 dan Fhitung=  35,170, dan p-value = 0,0000,05 atau hal ini berarti H0ditolak. Dengan demikian, koefisien korelasi ganda antara Self Efficacy (X1) dan Motivasi Intrinsik (X2) dengan Prokrastinasi Akademik (Y) adalah berarti atau signifikan. Sedangkan koefisien determinasi ditunjukkan oleh R Square = 0,309, yang mengandung makna bahwa 30,9% variabilitas variabel prokrastinasi akademik (Y) dapat dijelaskan oleh self efficacy (X1) dan motivasi intrinsik (X2), sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengaruh self efficacy dan motivasi intrinsik secara bersama-sama terhadap prokrastinasi akademik mahasiswa sebesar 30,9%. Jadi hipotesis dari penelitian ini adalah ada hubungan yang negative antara self efficacydan motivasi intrinsic dengan prokrastinasi akademik mahasiswa FKIP Universitas Riau Kepulauan (UNRIKA) Batam. Artinya semakin baik self efficacydan motivasi intrinsik maka semakin rendah prokrastinasi akademik mahasiswa. Kata kunci       : Self Efficacy, Motivasi Intrinsik, Prokrastinasi Akademik Based on preliminary survey, it was found that students did academic procrastination, such as coming late for lectures even though they have been on campus, collecting duties lately, collecting the necessary administrative required by campus and so on. It was caused by lack of students’ self-awareness that they can collect it on time and lack of self-motivation. The general objective of this research was to find the correlation between self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and academic procrastination of Teacher Training and Education students of Riau Kepulauan University (UNRIKA). Moreover, the specific objective of this research was the students are able to gain their knowledge and apply them on lectures in order to decrease the academic procrastination. This research used quantitative method and correlational research type. The selection of research subject used cluster sampling with the total of the subject was 160 students. Technique of collecting data used questionnaires for 3 variables; they are self efficacy, intrinsic motivation and academic procrastination. Furthermore, this research was analyzed by using multiple regression analysis with SPSS programme. From the result of the research, it was found that multiple correlation coefficient (R) = 0,556 and Fcount = 35,170 and p-value = 0,0000,05 or it means that H0 was rejected. Therefore, multiple correlation coefficients between Self Efficacy (X1), Intrinsic Motivation (X2) and Academic Procrastination (Y) means significant. While determinant coefficient was showed by R Square = 0,309 which means that 30,9% variability of academic procrastination variable (Y) can be described by self efficacy (X1) and intrinsic motivation (X2), so that it can be concluded that correlation between self efficacy and intrinsic motivation did together toward students’ academic procrastination, it was 30,9%. Therefore the hypothesis of this research was there was negative correlation between self efficacy and intrinsic motivation and academic procrastination of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Riau Kepulauan University Batam. It means that the better students’ self efficacy and intrinsic motivation, the lower students’ academic procrastination. Key Words: Self Efficacy, Intrinsic Motivation, Academic Procrastination.
