Abstract

This study explores students’ experiences in public speaking club activities related to their challenges and strategies. This study used a narrative inquiry as the research method. The research data were obtained from in-depth interviews and students’ weekly journals. The participants in this study were two students who are the most active students in the public speaking club at a private Islamic senior high school in Indonesia. The research data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of this study showed that the students’ experiences regarding the challenges faced in public speaking were linguistics and non-linguistics problems. The linguistics problems faced by students were pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Besides, non-linguistic problems faced by students consisted of anxiety and lack of self-confidence. The strategies used by the students to overcome the challenges in public speaking were understanding materials, memorizing some new vocabulary, practicing with friends and requesting their feedback, and practicing alone in front of a mirror. This study is limited in location, the number of participants and the type of research instrument. It is recommended for further research to be able to conduct similar research by changing the level of participants and adding variations of research instruments.

Abstract

This study investigated the correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension, conducted among eighth-grade students at an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia. The research aims to answer whether there is a correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension at the junior high school level. The population of this study was the eighth-grade students of junior Islamic school. The researcher selected students from classes A and B, with a total sample of 25 students chosen through a random sampling technique. The collected data was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The instruments used were vocabulary and reading tests. The results of this study showed that the calculated r-count was significantly higher than the tabulated r-table. Therefore, r-count (0.895) > r-table (0.396) indicated a positive correlation between vocabulary and reading. These findings suggested that students' vocabulary mastery had a significant influence on their reading comprehension abilities in eighth grade. It is emphasized that by building a strong vocabulary foundation, students are better equipped to comprehend the meaning and the core essence from the texts they read.

Abstract

The study explored the relationship between listening and writing skills of second-grade junior high school students of an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia. This research aimed at: (1) how is the performance of males and females’ listening and writing skills? (2) how is the portrayal of students' listening skills compared to students' writing skills in Islamic boarding schools? and (3) whether there is a correlation between students' listening skills and students' writing skills in Islamic boarding schools? The data was obtained from listening and writing scores. Results showed that r-count > r-table (r-count= 0.8699; r-table= 0.3291). It can be concluded that the student's performance in the listening and writing scores was statistically significantly correlated. However, the significant correlation of listening and writing skills in this study is feasibly valid for the context.

Abstract

Digitalization of MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) is a strategic step in facing the challenges of globalization and the development of information technology. This digitalization process includes the use of technology to increase operational efficiency, expand market access, and increase the competitiveness of MSMEs. By utilizing digital platforms, e-commerce applications and social media, MSMEs can optimize marketing, sales and business management. However, the implementation of digitalization in MSMEs often faces obstacles such as limited resources, lack of technological skills, and problems with access to adequate digital infrastructure. This research aims to explore the factors that influence the adoption of digitalization by MSMEs in Indonesia, as well as the benefits obtained from this process. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide policy recommendations for the government and industry players to increase the success of digitalization of MSMEs, which in turn can strengthen the national economy.

Abstract

Pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test was used in this study to determine whether there is any positive or negative effect on students' vocabulary mastery after they are taught using English songs. This study's instruments were a written vocabulary test and a field note. The researchers employed English songs combined with a Vocabulary self-collection (VSS) technique in the treatment to improve students' vocabulary acquisition. The mean pre-test score for 39 students in the eighth grade at an Islamic junior high school was 48,71, and the mean post-test score was 80, 89. The mean results of the pre-test and post-test demonstrated a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery. The t-test's p-value (sig-2-tailed) was 0.00, which is less than 0.05. This outcome indicated that Ho was refused but Ha was authorized. It was able to prove that gaining vocabulary in the eighth grade of an Islamic junior high school utilizing an English song and VSS had a positive impact on students' vocabulary mastery. The main teaching implication of this study is that when an English song is combined with specific teaching and learning objectives and supported by learning assessment through VSS, it might assist students in learning English vocabulary effectively.

Abstract

This study explored pre-service English teachers’ emotional experiences and professional identity construction during their teaching practicum in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, narrative inquiry was employed to gather data from two pre-service teachers through semi-structured interviews and reflective diaries. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify themes related to their emotional experiences, such as anxiety, self-doubt, and motivation, and how these emotions influenced their teacher identities. Findings revealed that positive emotions like enthusiasm and empathy facilitated professional identity formation, while negative emotions such as anxiety and fear of making mistakes posed challenges. Mentor teachers played a crucial role in both alleviating and exacerbating these emotional responses. The study highlights the importance of emotional management and identity development in teacher preparation programs. However, the study’s limitation lies in its small sample size, focusing on two participants from a private university in Indonesia. Future research could expand the sample size and explore the emotional dynamics of pre-service teachers in different contexts or academic fields.

This community service program aimed to develop an innovative food product made from moringa leaves as a stunting prevention initiative while enhancing students’ entrepreneurial competencies through the Merdeka Entrepreneurship Program. The program was conducted over four months and involved six students from different academic backgrounds, namely English education, mathematics, and biology. The implementation methods included entrepreneurship training, market research, product development and testing, branding, digital marketing, and a demo day. Evaluation was carried out through assessments of participant performance, product quality, and initial market responses. The results showed that the students successfully developed and launched Kelofav Cookies, a moringa-based cookie with nutritional value, attractive packaging, and market-oriented marketing strategies. The product received positive feedback from mentors and potential consumers. This program demonstrates that integrating local food innovation with entrepreneurship learning is effective in supporting the development of healthy micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and contributes to stunting prevention efforts at the local level.
