Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the level of student ability in using conjunctions in descriptive essays for class  add references to books in the school library, especially those related to the use of descriptive essays.  The problem raised in this research is the ability to use conjunctions in descriptive essays in class X even semester students at SMA Perintis 2 Bandar Lampung.  To achieve the research objectives mentioned above, the author uses a descriptive method, namely by analyzing the accuracy of the use of conjunctions in descriptive essays written by students, calculating and percentageing the level of student mastery in using conjunctions in descriptive essays based on the rules for using conjunctions well and correctly. The results of the research show that students' mastery of using conjunctions in descriptive essays is relatively poor.

Abstract

The problem discussed in this research is the relationship between mastery of sentence structure and the ability to write paragraphs. This is what becomes an obstacle for students in writing paragraphs that are not good, whereas in a good essay, paragraph by paragraph must be interconnected, and become a unified whole. As a collection of sentences, a paragraph requires coherence between sentences and must show unity of thought in expressing one idea. Meanwhile, students often write several sentences and put them in a collection or group of sentences, but talk about more than one idea that is not related to each other. Students' deficiencies in writing paragraphs are usually in the areas of vocabulary, spelling, and mastery of sentence structure and syntax. Therefore, a user of a language needs understanding to master sentence patterns in a particular language. In relation to conveying ideas in written language, someone will use an essay, which contains paragraphs or paragraphs. The population in this study was class VIII students at SMP Negeri 10 Bandar Lampung, even semester of the 2024 academic year, totaling 210 people. This research was conducted using quantitative descriptive methods. This was done because apart from presenting data, this research also used simple statistical analysis. The technique used in this research is a proportional random sample according to Stratified Proportional Random Sampling. Because the level of student ability varies from one student to another. The selection is taken randomly by showing class ranking.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the use of the Card Sort method in improving reading ability. Reading is a means for students to learn things that are not yet known and can expand knowledge, students can recognize themselves, their culture and even help recognize the culture of other people, and students can recognize written messages contained in reading. To achieve the above goals, students' ability to read is needed. The Card Sort method is a learning method used to help remember what they have read in reading books, not only from short-term memory to long-term memory. The problems in learning to read that occur in class IV SDN 1 Landbaw are that students cannot read well and correctly, students cannot answer questions related to information and reading material, and draw conclusions from the reading. As a result, most students are less active in concluding reading content, students also feel bored with learning to read so they are less enthusiastic about following it. The use of the Card Sort learning method is expected to be able to improve students' reading skills in accordance with the Class IV Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) in Indonesian language subjects at SDN 1 Landbaw because in using the Card Sort method students are required to actively carry out responsibilities for the assigned tasks. given by the teacher. The results of research using the Card Sort method can improve students' reading skills. Learning with this method can improve the reading of class IV students at SDN 1 Landbaw. The average Card Sort method in student learning in Indonesian language subjects from the status cycle reached 60.50%, then in the second cycle it reached 80.50%, so there was an increase of 20%. In this case, students' reading increased by 45%. So with an increase in reading, 80% of students completed their studies and 20% of students who did not complete their studies.
