Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of extension communication among fisherwomen in the management of eco-tourism. This research was conducted in the tourist area of Benan Island, Lingga Regency, Riau Islands Province, using a mixed method, which is a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. The results of the analysis conclude that fisherwomen are said to be effective in conducting extension education to support sustainable eco-tourism management in the village. This is seen from the effectiveness value of several components in the effective category range (330-540), among others the frequency of Extension conducted by fisherwomen to the family environment and surrounding communities has a value of 380, the value of the level of knowledge about the goals of eco-tourism management obtained by the community from extension communication is 370, and the value of implementing sustainable eco-tourism management by the surrounding community of 360. Extension communication methods with individual direct dialogue are considered more effective (380) compared to direct group dialogue (253). This indicates that fisherwomen need a higher intensity of training in order to increase their knowledge and skills as well as their involvement in ecotourism management in the village.

Abstract

Cooperatives base their activities on the principle of people's economic movement based on the principle of kinship, their presence in rural and coastal areas is expected to be able to prosper groups of people who are far from urban areas. However, the existence of cooperatives until now has not attracted the attention of most people, especially women. Factors causing the absence of fisher farming women joining cooperatives in this village before this activity was carried out were; 1) this village has never received cooperative socialization, 2) the community's dependence on village-wide credit loans, 3) the negative perception of some people towards cooperative institutions, 4) the consumptive lifestyle of the village community. This community service activity aims to socialize village communities about the important role of cooperatives and motivate women-fisherman groups in villages to develop their businesses through cooperatives. The results of community service activities that have been carried out in Lancangkuning Village, Bintan Regency show that the community of women farmers and fishermen are beginning to understand opportunities to improve the economy through cooperatives. After following the socialization, their knowledge of cooperatives increases and they have a strong desire to get rid of loans from moneylenders.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the involvement of fisherwomen in managing tourism villages and the relationship between actors involved in tourism management. The researcher chose Benan Island as the research location, one of the small islands in Lingga Regency, Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, and the interpretation of the results of data analysis uses spidergram images according to the priority scale. Data collection uses the method of study documentation, observation, Focus Group Discussion, and in-depth interviews. The study results show that fisherwomen's level of involvement in village tourism management still needs to be higher. The management of tourism in the village has a top-down pattern. Namely, the district government assigns village tourism management personnel. Such a management system makes it difficult for the women's community to participate actively.

Abstract

Menongkah activities initially became the main livelihood of the Duano Tribe to fulfill their daily needs due to environmental degradation which caused bio-physical changes which caused the Duano Tribe to no longer be able to sail the ocean to catch fish so they settled by catching cockle (Anadara granosa) which abound in mud areas Indragiri Hilir. Menongkah activities are carried out using a tongkah board as a pedestal to catch cockles on the mud. Tongkah boards are used as a form of technological adaptation by the Duano Tribe to the muddy bio-physical environment. Livelihood with menongkah has been carried out for generations by the Duano people, so the culture of menongkah of the Duano tribe is a legacy that needs to be preserved. With government support, the menongkah activity is made one of the annual cultural festivals included in the Riau Province cultural tourism calendar. The environment which is the habitat of the cockle (Anadara granosa) needs to be maintained so that the existence of the Duano Tribe's livelihood and culture in menongkah is maintained.

Abstract

Research has been conducted on the prevention strategy of fishing vessel waste pollution carried out in April 2024 with the location at Tarempa Coastal Fishing Port. This research aims to formulate a plan for preventing fishing vessel waste at Tarempa Coastal Fishing Port. This research used a survey method with a purposive sampling technique. The data taken in this study are the type and amount of waste from ship activities during mooring, ship maintenance and repair, and maintenance and repair of fishing gear at the Tarempa PPP. The results of observations in the field found that the management done before was only in the form of burning, disposing of garbage in trash cans, hoarding garbage, and some throwing garbage into the sea. Based on the results of the analysis of waste prevention strategies, ten management alternatives were found, including port management needs to establish partnerships with crew members and the community to prevent waste generation at PPP Tarempa, apply rewards for crew members who manage waste well, improve cleaning and waste management facilities at PPP Tarempa, increase routine supervision to prevent waste generation at PPP Tarempa, apply punishment for crew members who pollute the environment, provide counseling and K3 training for crew members at PPP Tarempa, optimize the function of cleaning and waste management facilities at PPP Tarempa

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceptions of local communities towards marine sand mining activities in the Kepulauan Riau Province. Considering the region's dominance, Kepulauan Riau has great potential for sand mining in terms of quality and quantity. The population dynamics and high development today encourage an increased need for sand. Therefore, sand mining businesses have become social, economic, and ecological. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with an interview method with 60 respondents. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to predict perceptions based on social, economic, and ecological variables. The results showed that social aspects (coefficient value of 0.809) strongly influenced the sustainability of mining activities compared to ecological aspects (0.271) and economic aspects (-0.045). This finding shows that if mining activities can create good social conditions in local communities, sand mining activities can continue. However, these social conditions are related to the ecological impacts caused by mining

Abstract

This study aimed to determine and analyze the economic value of the mangrove ecosystem in Rempang Island, Batam City, Kepulauan Riau Province. The survey method used a quantitative approach to analyze the economic valuation with the calculation of Total Economic Value (TEV), which consists of the calculation of use value: direct use value, indirect use value, option value, and non-use value: existence value and bequest value. There were 44 respondents determined by the Slovin method. The results showed that the total economic valuation of mangrove ecosystems on Rempang Island with an area of 2,813.18 ha which is IDR 75,082,590,695/year, consisting of a total use value which is IDR 74,739,030,695/year and total non-use value which is IDR 343,560,000/year. The use value is obtained from direct use value which is IDR 2,059,200,000/year from fish, shrimp, and crab utilization activities, indirect use value which is IDR 72,004,878,483/year from breakwaters and abrasion, preventing seawater intrusion, nursery ground, feeding ground, spawning ground, and an optional value which is IDR 674,952,212/year from the value of biodiversity. Then, the total non-use value is obtained from the willingness to pay IDR 137,640,000/year and bequest value IDR 205,920,000/year. These findings indicate that the current ecological condition of the Rempang Island mangrove ecosystem has provided excellent economic value, so efforts are needed to maintain this condition with sustainable management

Abstract

This research analyses the suitability of permits for using mangrove wood in Karimun Regency for charcoal making, which has been going on for a long time. This charcoal was traded for local and foreign needs even before Indonesian Independence. However, it was only in 2010 that the official IUPHHK-HTR permit was enacted to regulate this activity. This study aims to analyze the suitability of forest area functions in community plantation forest permit areas based on the provisions of forestry laws and regulations, calculate the area of degraded/deforested as well as reforested forest cover using satellite image interpretation results, and identify institutions involved in processing mangrove wood into charcoal. The results showed that 59.55% of the forest area followed the permit, but there was deforestation of 802.29 ha (27%) and degradation of 72.53 ha (32.44%). On the other hand, reforestation efforts of 1,446.32 hectares were also carried out. This research was conducted using normative or doctrinal legal and overlay methods. The methods used in this research consist of normative or doctrinal legal research methods and overlay methods. Normative legal research focuses on the scope of legal conceptions, legal principles, and legal rules governing the suitability of forest area functions and granting social forestry licenses for community plantation forests. At the same time, the overlay method combines information from various maps. Various parties are involved in mangrove charcoal management, ranging from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Kepulauan Riau Provincial Government, Karimun Regency Government, and Wana Jaya Karimun Cooperative to 30 business license holders and charcoal collectors. This research recommends evaluating mangrove IUPHHK-HTR policies to ensure forest sustainability and balance between utilization and sustainability
