Abstract

The incidence of medical errors in Indonesia remains high, one of which is related to the provision of informed consent. Surgical procedures require informed consent, and one effort to reduce patient anxiety is by providing comprehensive information about the surgery through informed consent. This study aims to analyze the relationship between informed consent provision and the level of anxiety in patients undergoing elective surgery at RSUD Waled, Cirebon Regency. This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. Primary data were collected through questionnaires distributed to elective surgery patients at RSUD Waled, Cirebon Regency. The levels of patient anxiety were categorized as follows: no anxiety (31.5%), mild anxiety (26.0%), moderate anxiety (9.6%), severe anxiety (8.2%), and very severe anxiety (21.9%). The findings indicate a significant correlation between informed consent provision and the level of anxiety in patients undergoing elective surgery at RSUD Waled, Cirebon Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the discourse construction of the four-island dispute between Aceh and North Sumatra in local media coverage. It employs a critical qualitative descriptive approach using Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis model. The data consist of linguistic elements, including diction, sentence structures, and modality that construct the discourse of the dispute. The data sources are two local media outlets, Aceh Portal and Sumut Pos, with two purposively selected news articles from each, published during May–June 2025, when the issue reached its peak intensity and public attention. Data were collected through close reading and note-taking techniques, while data analysis was conducted through Fairclough’s three dimensions: textual, discursive practice, and sociocultural practice. The findings reveal significant differences in the ideological construction of the dispute between the two media. At the textual level, Aceh Portal tends to frame the dispute as administrative injustice and a struggle to defend historical rights, whereas Sumut Pos represents it as a legitimate and final legal-administrative issue. At the level of discursive practice, these differences are reflected in the selection of perspectives, sources, and patterns of text production. At the sociocultural level, the coverage reflects tensions between state hegemony and regional resistance shaped by historical, political, and economic factors. This study highlights that local media function not merely as channels of information but also as ideological actors in constructing and framing territorial disputes.

Abstract

Domestic violence has become a significant social issue in Indonesia, and its representation in online media influences public perceptions of victims, perpetrators, and gender relations. This study aims to analyze the news coverage of Dilan’s domestic violence case published by Okezone.com by examining the representation of subject and object positions, as well as writer and reader positions, using Sara Mills’ Critical Discourse Analysis framework. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with news texts published between 2024 and 2025 serving as the primary data. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed based on Sara Mills’ concepts of subject–object and writer–reader positions. The findings indicate that Dilan is predominantly positioned as the narrative subject because she is given extensive opportunities to express her experiences and emotions, while Safno is positioned as the object whose identity is constructed through the victim’s perspective. The writer reinforces the victim’s narrative through emotionally charged language, detailed descriptions, and visual evidence, thereby directing readers to sympathize with the victim and perceive the alleged perpetrator negatively. These findings demonstrate that Okezone’s news coverage is not neutral but constructs social reality by reproducing gendered representations and power relations through its discursive strategies.
