Abstract

Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) has become a widely discussed topic due to the increasing discourse of sexuality and gender roles, particularly among adolescents. The provision of comprehensive sexuality education has not been implemented smoothly in several countries. The Rutgers World Population Foundation (WPF) identified existing barriers in Indonesia and sought to assist in delivering comprehensive sexuality education to Indonesian adolescents. This study aims to examine the role of the Rutgers World Population Foundation (WPF) as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in providing sexuality education for adolescents in Indonesia during the period of 2018–2021. Rutgers WPF implemented the Semangat Dunia Remaja (SETARA) program in Bandar Lampung, Denpasar, and Semarang. This research employs a qualitative method, drawing upon the pluralism perspective and the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) theory developed by David Lewis and Nazneen Kanji. As an NGO, the Rutgers World Population Foundation (WPF) serves as the implementing actor in the Semangat Dunia Remaja (SETARA) program. WPF is responsible for curriculum development, teacher training, and the allocation of financial resources to ensure the sustainability of the program. The intervention of sexuality education through the Semangat Dunia Remaja (SETARA) program has shown varied outcomes in improving the level of sexuality education among adolescents in Indonesia. Keywords: Comprehensive Sexuallity Education, Rutgers World Population Foundation (WPF), Pluralism, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

Abstract

The Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) is a formal and binding agreement that regulates defense cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore, including military exercises, territorial access, and defense modernization mechanisms within the framework of international law. As well as focusing on the strategic factors that prompted Indonesia to finally ratify the DCA after being delayed since 2007. This study aims to explain the reasons for the ratification of the DCA using the concept of national interest and the theory of neorealism. This research covers all aspects of Indonesia-Singapore bilateral relations, with a focus on the fields of defense, security, politics and economics. The analysis was carried out by a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach with data sources collected through literature studies and analysis of official documents. The results of the research include aspects, namely first, the security aspect which functions to strengthen the national defense posture, to enhance the professionalism of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and expand training capacity through joint exercise mechanisms. Second, political and sovereignty aspects through the resolution of the Flight Information Region (FIR) issue and extradition. Third, economic aspects through the takeover of FIR management and the efficiency of national resource management. Keywords: DCA, Neorealism, national interest, FIR, Indonesia-Singapore relations

Abstract

India sued the United States in the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the DS547 aluminum import tariff policy. The United States' policy affected India's economy in aluminum exports to the United States. The tariff policy violated Articles 11(a) and 11(b) of the GATT 1994 concerning commitments on import duties, imports, and exports. The dispute resolution process was carried out through the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB). The DSB is responsible for establishing a panel and recommending a final decision. The dispute was resolved through a mini-trade deal approach with a focus on reciprocal tariff reductions. The reason the United States and India agreed to the mini-trade deal was that both countries agreed to end trade tensions for strategic and economic reasons. The United States agreed to revoke the policy, and India agreed to withdraw the issue and not seek compensation from the United States, thus opening up broader market opportunities. Keywords: DSB, WTO, Tariff, Aluminum.

Abstract

Women in Japan continue to face inequalities in the employment sector, particularly in job access, wage gaps, employment quality, and career advancement opportunities. Although Japan ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women or CEDAW in 1985, the implementation of gender equality principles in domestic policies still faces structural and cultural barriers. Womenomics, introduced under the administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, became one of Japan’s efforts to increase women’s participation in the labor market while responding to national economic challenges caused by population decline and labor shortages. This study employs a constructivist perspective, international regime theory, and the nation-state level of analysis using a qualitative-descriptive method through library research. The focus of this research is the implementation of Article 11 of CEDAW in Womenomics policy toward women’s employment opportunities in Japan during the 2018-2020 period. The findings indicate that Womenomics contributed to increasing women’s labor participation and strengthening gender equality policy support. However, its implementation has not fully achieved substantive equality, as the gender wage gap remains high, women are still concentrated in non-regular employment, female representation in leadership positions remains limited, and patriarchal culture as well as traditional social norms continue to influence Japan’s labor market. Keywords: CEDAW, Womenomics, women’s employment opportunities, gender equality, Japan.
