Abstract

Background-Although PBL is effective in biology learning, this approach often triggers cognitive overload when the complexity of the material and instructional demands exceed students' working memory capacity, while there is currently no empirically validated causal model available to explain these interactions. Objectives-This study aims to examine the effects of material complexity and teaching strategies on students' cognitive load and to assess the interaction of the two in PBL-based biology learning. Method-A quantitative explanatory design was employed with 240 eighth-grade students from junior high schools in Pontianak, Indonesia. Data were collected using validated 5-point Likert scales and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via AMOS 26.0, encompassing confirmatory factor analysis, goodness-of-fit evaluation, structural path analysis, and Sobel mediation test. Measurement quality was confirmed with AVE values ranging from 0.58 to 0.65 and CR values from 0.81 to 0.88. Results-Material complexity (β = 0.59; p < 0.001) and teaching strategies (β = 0.38; p < 0.001) significantly predicted cognitive load. A significant mediation effect was confirmed via Sobel test (z = 2.26; p < 0.05), indicating that teaching strategies partially mediate the relationship between material complexity and cognitive load formation. Conclusions-Adaptive instructional design grounded in Cognitive Load Theory encompassing scaffolding, content segmentation, and structured sequencing is essential to ensure PBL is both pedagogically effective and cognitively ergonomic.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to provide education and an introduction to physical fitness for students at State Vocational High School 3 Singkawang, particularly in measuring students physical fitness levels. Based on field data, many Physical Education (PJOK) teachers still have limited understanding of the National Sports Grand Design (DBON). In addition, students have never received assessments of their physical fitness, which results in decreased concentration during PJOK learning activities and rapid fatigue during physical activities. The method applied is service learning, in which students receive education and understanding of the importance of physical fitness through collaboration with PJOK teachers at the school. The stages include: (1) completion of questionnaires/pre-tests, (2) socialization and measurement of students physical fitness, (3) completion of questionnaires/post-tests, and (4) activity documentation. The implementation of this community service program received positive responses, as reported by the PKM team, including: (1) enhanced understanding of measuring physical fitness through the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKPN), and (2) best practices in the field for measuring physical fitness using the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKPN)

Abstract

The  purpose  of  the study. (1) this study aims to determine the effect of leg muscle training on the speed of the kick taekwondo dollyo chagi in NTC Club Pontianak city; (2) this study aims to determine the increase in the speed of the kick taekwondo dollyo chagi in NTC Club Pontianak city after given leg muscle training. Materials and methods. The type used in this study is the type of quantitative research. This study is a way to measure the effect of leg muscle training using a test drill on the speed of the taekwondo dollyo chagi kick at the NTC Club Pontianak city, with a population of 8 male athletes in the junior class category. Samples used that have characteristics of male sex aged 15-17 years who are still actively training at the NTC Club Pontianak city with total sampling technique. Data collection techniques in the form of measurements and using a tool in the form of a Taekwondo Kick speed test dollyo chagi. The study was conducted for two months. Results. Based on the hypothesis of the effect of leg muscle training on the speed of taekwondo dollyo chagi kicks obtained a significant value of 0.2127 > 0.05 then H0 is accepted. Conclusions. (1) There is an effect of leg muscle strength training through drill exercises for each athlete on the speed of the dollyo chagi taekwondo kick at the NTC Club, Pontianak City; (2) There is an effect of muscle strength through drill exercises on each athlete on the speed of kicking taekwondo dollyo chagi at the NTC Club, Pontianak City.
