Abstract

Abstract

Chemotherapy is one of the therapies for cancer patients which causing side effects, including nausea and vomiting. Improper management of these effects may contribute to fluid and electrolyte imbalance and disrupt the cycle of chemotherapy. Acupressure is one of the complementary therapies to reduce nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of acupressure on nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing chemotherapy at the cancer Shelter in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This was a quantitative study, using a time series design. There were 11 samples recruited using purposive sampling technique. Repeated ANOVA test was performed to analyze the data. The results showed there was a significance decrease in the level of nausea and vomiting every time the patient was given acupressure. The administration of effective acupressure therapy can be given at any time to reduce the level of nausea and vomiting.

Abstract

Many factors play a role in the level of satisfaction among patients in the Emergency Department (ED). Sociodemographic factors and patients’ characteristics can also potentially related to their satisfaction. This study aim was to describe patients’ satisfaction in the ED and its associated factors. A descriptive correlation and a cross-sectional approach were applied. The samples were 180 patients recruited using convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using The Short Assessment of Patient Satisfaction (SAPS) questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis such as Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman Rank Correlation were performed to examine the relationship among variables. The type of triage had a very significant relationship with patient satisfaction in the ED (p<0,001). There was a positive and significant correlation between response time and satisfaction (r=0,164; p<0,05). Patients with lower disease severity had better satisfaction scores. The sooner the patient gets treated, the higher the satisfaction level of emergency patients.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder that causes 4-5 times higher mortality in Indonesia. DM patients have a greater risk of depression than individuals without this disease. This factor is one of the psychological problems that interfere patients’ sleep. This study aimed to determine the relationship between depression and sleep quality including its dimensions in patients with type 2 DM, as well as to identify the factors associated with it. This was a correlational study with cross-sectional design. The samples were 146 patients recruited using convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman Rank. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between depression and sleep quality (r = 0,08; p > 0.05). There was a significant and negative correlation between depression and the use of sleeping medicines (r = -0,19; p < 0.05). Type 2 DM patients who experienced mild depression, used more sleeping pills to get a better sleep.
