Abstract

Breast engorgement is a condition in which the breasts become overly filled with milk, causing swelling, hardness, and pain. The prevalence of breast engorgement Indonesia in 2021 was 37.12%, which was the highest in ASEAN. The condition can be alleviated through non-pharmacological methods, such as warm compresses, which have no side effects. The study aimed to determine the application of warm compresses in managing breast engorgement. This study used a literature review with a scoping review approach. The study was conducted from November 2024 to February 2025. Data were collected from various digital databases, including PubMed Central, ScienceDirect, DOAJ, SINTA, Google Scholar, and Portal Garuda published from 2020 to 2024. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Relevant articles was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and processed using the PRISMA-ScR flow diagram. 12 articles were identified for analysis.12 articles were analized by thematic analysis. The application of warm compresses 5 between 30 minutes in 3 days significantly reduces breast engorgement. Warm compress therapy offers several benefits, including reducing breast pain and swelling, promoting vasodilation, enhancing milk production, facilitating smoother milk flow, stimulating the let-down reflex, and improving breast emptying.

Abstract

Background: Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms in pregnancy caused by hormonal changes. Although physiological, if not properly managed, these symptoms can lead to nutritional disturbances, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and hyperemesis gravidarum. Proper management is essential to alleviate nausea and vomiting and prevent pregnancy complications. Non-pharmacological methods are preferred to manage nausea and vomiting in pregnancy due to their lack of side effects.   Objectives: This study aims to assess the impact of moxibustion on the P6 (Neiguan) and ST36 (Zusanli) acupoints on the incidence of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Moxibustion is known for its effectiveness in stimulating Qi at specific points that may be difficult to access through acupressure alone, thus improving the body's energy balancing process. The intervention is intended to improve pregnancy health outcomes. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest one-group framework to evaluate the effectiveness of moxibustion on nausea and vomiting during the first trimester of pregnancy. The participants consisted of 30 pregnant women selected using quota sampling based on inclusion criteria at selected independent midwifery practices. The instrument used was the Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) to assess the intensity of nausea and vomiting in the respondents.  Results: The results show a significant difference in the incidence of nausea and vomiting in the first trimester before and after moxibustion treatment (p < 0.05).Conclusions: Therefore, it can be concluded that moxibustion is beneficial in reducing nausea and vomiting symptoms during the early stages of pregnancy

Abstract

Background: Perineal trauma resulting from vaginal delivery can negatively impact postpartum sexual function; however, data from Southeast Asian populations are still scarce. Objective: We aimed to study the relationship between perineal trauma and sexual dysfunction measured by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) among postpartum women in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Pauh Community Health Center, Padang City, between May and June 2025. We used purposive sampling to recruit forty-six women who had a vaginal delivery within the last six months. Sexual function was measured using the Indonesian FSFI version, a tool validated for the Indonesian population, with scores below 26.55 indicating dysfunction. Perineal trauma condition was ascertained from the medical record. The chi-square test assessed the association between perineal trauma and sexual dysfunction. Results: Sexual dysfunction prevalence was 54.3% (n=25). Of the women who had perineal trauma, 82.6% were sexually dysfunctional, compared to 26.1% in the group without trauma. The relationship was statistically significant (p=0.001) with a crude odds ratio of 13.81 (95% CI: 3.46-55.12). The pain and desire domains were affected the most. Conclusion: Perineal trauma is a significant risk factor for postpartum sexual dysfunction among Indonesian women. Besides that, health care workers should promote the sexual health of their clients by regularly integrating the screening of sexual health into routine postpartum care, applying evidence-based interventions to reduce perineal injury, and providing easy access to pelvic floor rehabilitation services as a way to improve maternal quality of life.

Abstract

One of the additional family planning counseling methods in Indonesia that has been adapted since August 2016 until now to improve postpartum family planning counseling services is the balanced counseling strategy (BCS). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of BCS on the behavior of using modern contraception. This quantitative research type was quasi-experimental with a non-randomized pretest-posttest with a control group design. Data collection was conducted from August to November 2023. The study sample was 20 postpartum women in each intervention and control group. The sampling technique was quota sampling. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire to measure the knowledge, attitudes, and decisions before and after the intervention. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test (p<0.05). The intervention group had an average increase in knowledge, attitudes, and decisions in choosing family planning: 1.15, 0.90, 0.65. Control group, the average increase in knowledge, attitudes, and decisions in choosing family planning was 1.10, 0.85, and 0.55. The results of the Wilcoxon test (p=0.001). N-gain score for knowledge (0.785), attitude (0.818), and decisions (0.650). Counseling has a positive impact on knowledge, attitudes, and decisions regarding modern contraception selection, making the BCS method highly effective for postpartum family planning counseling.

Abstract

Myometrial contractions, which cause labor pain, are a physiological process that varies in intensity depending on the individual. Most women who go through labor feel pain, but not all of them deal with it well. Anxiety and irregular labor might result from improper management of labor pain. It is possible to lessen labor pain by using both pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological interventions. In order to prepare moms and lower maternal anxiety during labor, non-pharmacological therapies like acupressure are thought to lessen the severity of labor pain. From August to October 2023, research using a cross-sectional study design was carried out at the Independent Midwife Practice in Padang City. Up to 40 midwives who worked or had their own independent midwifery practice in Padang City made up the research sample. Systematic random sampling was used to collect the samples. Chi square analysis test (p≤0.05) was used for both univariate and bivariate data analysis. The findings demonstrated that 47.5% of respondents had strong knowledge, and 72.5% had a positive attitude. The bivariate test results, with p values of 0.018 and 0.044, indicated a link between respondents' knowledge and attitude toward the supply of acupressure. When it comes to the providing of labor acupressure, knowledge and attitude are significantly correlated.

Abstract

Background: Rapid population growth is a pressing concern with widespread implications, including potential food and energy crises. To address this issue, the Indonesian government has implemented Family Planning (FP) programs. However, the total fertility rate (TFR) continues to rise. A high unmet need for family planning is a significant contributing factor. Unmet need for family planning is defined as the percentage of women of reproductive age, whether married or in a union, who have an unmet need for family planning. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of unmet need among women of reproductive age at the Padang City Community Health Center. Method: A cross-sectional methodology and analytical observational study design were used. The study included 95 non-pregnant women of reproductive age in Padang City. The sample size was determined using a quota sampling approach. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% Confidence Interval (CI). Results: The results indicated that the p-value was 0.000, which is ≤ 0.05, indicating a significant correlation between knowledge, attitude, and the incidence of unmet need. Conclusion: These findings suggest that addressing these factors could be an effective strategy for decreasing the incidence of unmet need among women of reproductive age. Health providers need to raise awareness about family planning and enhance women's understanding of the importance of utilizing family planning services

Abstract

A nutritional status assessment is a process undertaken to facilitating optimal development. Normal growth is defined as the optimal nutritional and health status, as indicated by conformity with the parameters set forth in growth charts. The objective of this activity is to gather data pertaining to the nutritional status of all students in grades IV, V, and VI of SDN 22 Andalas Padang, while concurrently imparting health education related to menarche as part of the students' overall growth and development. The assessment of nutritional status was conducted through the measurement of height and weight, with the calculation of the Body Mass Index and Age, of 110 students in grades IV, V, and VI of SDN 22 Andalas Padang. Additionally, health education about menarche was provided through presentations and the distribution of booklets. The results of the activity demonstrated a high level of acceptance and positive response from the teachers and leaders. The nutritional status of the students was found to be generally good, with only 4% of students having poor nutritional status, 80% having good nutritional status, 11% having overweight status, and 5% having obese nutritional status. Furthermore, the students displayed enthusiasm during the educational sessions. It can be concluded that the majority of SDN 22 Andalas Padang students have a normal nutritional status. Hopefully, this activity will form the basis for schools to carry out monitoring interventions for the nutritional status of school-age children and the continuation of regular activities by involving cross-sectoral partners.
