The analysis method used was a cross-combination approach between the share of food expenses (PPP) and the level of household energy consumption (AKE). The results showed that based on AKE the distribution of food-secure households was 65.53% and food insecure was 36.47%. Meanwhile, based on PPP, the distribution of households that were food insecure was 40% and food secure was 60%. The performance of household food security in the food security category was 25.88 percent, food vulnerability was 40.00 percent, food shortage was 14.12 percent, and food insecurity was 20.00 percent. Abstract

The contribution of this research is to fill the gaps in the literature on community marketing, especially for batik SMEs. The purpose of this research is to construct a batik SME business performance model by including entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and cognitive bias (CB) variables, marketing strategies, and the role of the community on business performance. The data of 309 respondents was obtained from a survey of batik SMEs in Central Java, Indonesia. It was then analyzed using structural equation models and AMOS software. It was found that CB can affect business performance mediated by EO. Meanwhile, the existence of a batik SME community can influence business performance mediated by marketing strategies. Future research needs to explore the dynamics of community formation which can then help SMEs to develop and market their products. Besides that, it is necessary to further investigate the role of the community in carrying out marketing, from conventional methods to community marketing.

Abstract

The adoption of customer orientation by an SME hotel trying to fight for excellence in a robust competition has drawn the writer’s interest. The research question to answer is: How the SME hotel adopts the customer orientation to respond to the competition and the changing environment. The research approach is qualitative. The informants are members of the hotel management staff having hands on managerial and supervisory responsibilities. Besides interviews, the writer conducted observation and triangulation. The result of this research shows that the hotel adopts customer orientation informally. They collect, distribute and respond to the information in line with their limited knowledge and capability in a financial constraint. A unique work culture of ‘gotong royong’ is created where efforts are aimed at responding to customers’ interest, satisfaction and value The inductive process in this research enables the writer to construct a mini theory which should be proved true by quantitative researches.
