Abstract

Agrarian conflict in Setrojenar involves various actors; military, farmers, and governments, as they have different interests of land. These varied interests cause significant problems regarding rights and access to utilizing resources among those actors. The military utilizes land for training purposes. On the other hand, farmers cultivate the land for agriculture.  This article scrutinized how farmers’ involvement in agrarian conflicts allows them to experience conditions of uncertainty in their efforts to survive, especially when the level of conflict increases. Farmer households must be able to adapt and implement survival strategies with the livelihood assets/capital (natural physical, capital, human, and financial capital, and social capital) they have. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the level of agrarian conflict and farmer households’ strategy and livelihood assets. This study applied a quantitative method supported by a qualitative method. Quantitative data were obtained using a research questionnaire and processed using Spearman’s rank, while qualitative data were collected by conducting interviews. The results of the study show that the level of agrarian conflict significantly correlates with the livelihood assets and strategies of farmer households. The uncertainty experienced by farming households is regarding the agricultural activities they carry out when the intensity of the conflict increases or when the Indonesian Army (Tentara Angkatan Darat) training activities take place.

Abstract

Mining, as one of the major forms of large-scale land conversion, has significantly contributed to changes in agrarian structure, encompassing aspects of land ownership, control, and agricultural productivity. The presence of mining activities drives local communities to sell their dry agricultural land and overlook the potential negative impacts of mining on their wet agricultural land. This study aims to analyze the environmental transformation and the resulting changes in agrarian structure occurring in Batujajar Village. The research adopts an exploratory sequential mixed-method approach, beginning with a qualitative phase. In this phase, a comparison is made between two hamlets: Hamlet 3, which is located relatively far from mining sites, and Hamlet 5, which is closer to mining areas. The findings reveal that Hamlet 5 experiences more fluctuating changes in land ownership compared to Hamlet 3. Meanwhile, changes in land control and productivity display relatively similar patterns in both hamlets. These findings suggest that mining activities not only affect areas in close proximity to mining sites but may also influence the agrarian structure in more distant areas, albeit with varying degrees of intensity.

Abstract

The crisis affecting Indonesia's agricultural sector, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, has underscored the need for innovation to sustain productivity and farmer welfare. This study aims to explore the role of hydroponic technology adoption in modernizing agriculture within the Women's Farming Group (KWT) Beta Maca in Babakan Village, using Everett Rogers' diffusion of innovation theory as the analytical framework. A qualitative approach was employed through in-depth interviews and participatory observations involving the leader, founder, and members of KWT. The findings indicate that the technology adoption process in KWT Beta Maca follows five key stages: initial knowledge, persuasion through outreach, decision-making, implementation of hydroponic practices, and confirmation of outcomes. Government-provided financial support and training proved to be crucial catalysts in this transition. Despite challenges such as skill adaptation and extreme weather conditions, hydroponic technology has demonstrated significant benefits in resource efficiency and increased income. In conclusion, the adoption of hydroponics in KWT Beta Maca not only enhanced productivity but also strengthened the economic well-being of farmers, proving that technology-based agricultural modernization can foster resilience and broader economic opportunities.
