Abstract

Abstract— The harvesting of palm oil in Indonesia, is still done manually. This research analyzed the movement of the palm oil loading process manually, which risks of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) to workers. The methods used in this study include observation, interviews, the Nordic Body Map (NBM) Questionnaire, the Natural Range of Motion (ROM), and biomechanical load calculations. NBM is used to identify complaints of the worker’s body parts. The ROM method is used to analyze the risk of body movements when carrying out palm oil loading activities, and the calculation of biomechanical loads is to determine the burden on the worker's body parts. The results showed that there are three parts of the body involved in the process of loading palm oil so that workers often complain of pain, namely the shoulders, neck, and back. The biomechanical load that occurs on the back of the worker is 4866.36 N. This value exceeds the safety limit recommended by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) which is as high as 3400 N. Analysis using ROM found that the existing loading process of oil palm causes shoulders, neck, and back to form angles of 120°, 31° and 12°, respectively. This angle is in the danger zone based on ROM. Improvements are made by changing the work posture in the loading process of oil palm and giving changes to the body angle to 90° on the shoulder, 14° on the neck, and 2° on the back, which are already in the safe zone. The biomechanical load on the back after the improvement also decreased to 3287.38 N

Abstract

Abstract Riau is one of the areas with the largest oil palm plantation area in Indonesia. In general, oil palm has three types of waste, including: solid waste, liquid waste, and gas waste. Solid waste consists of empty bunches, midribs, stems and mesocarp fibers. The frond waste is generated when trimming the midrib at the time of harvesting oil palm fruit bunches. The oil palm midrib consists of rachis (leaves), pinnacs (leaves), and spines (sticks). The number of leaflets on one midrib ranges from 250-400 leaflets located on the left and right of the midrib. Each leaflet consists of a stick and two leaves. The process of separating sticks is still done manually, so it takes a long time to separate them. So in this study, we designed a palm stick machine using CAD. Designing with CAD provides many advantages including making it easier for designers to design, reducing time, and reducing costs during design. There are three design pictures of palm oil stick waste processing machines. Based on economic calculations, tools and materials needed and processing time, design drawing C is the choice. Next, build a waste treatment machine with reference to the selected design Keywords: stick waste, CAD, Palm Oil

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest suppliers of palm oil needs. Increasing the area of oil palm plantations followed by CPO production does not always have a positive impact, especially related to waste. Palm Oil Empty Bunches (EFB) is one of the largest wastes generated from the palm oil processing industry, where the amount reaches 21-23% of fresh fruit bunches. So far, the use of empty oil palm bunch waste is very limited, namely landfilled (open dumping) and burned. One of the uses of waste from TKKS is as fertilizer The initial stage to be able to make EFB compost is by enumerating EFB to accelerate decomposition. So that shredding technology is needed in the process of making EFB compost. Most of the Palm Oil Industry has used large capacity shredding machines. However, for small farmers to have machines with these standards cannot be done so the purpose of this study is to design a small-scale EFB counter. The speed for the enumeration process with 300 Rpm takes 6.3 minutes, and 500 Rpm with a time of 5.3 minutes.

Abstract

Abstract

Maintenance system is an activity conducted to ensure that machines or equipment are always ready to use. PT. RAPP uses a filler machine in the nursery area to fill cocopeat media into trays. The filler machine works optimally at a capacity of 600 kg (multiplied by two cycles) to fill 180 trays per day. When experiencing damage, this filler machine can only be used at a capacity of 300 kg (multiplied by four cycles) to fill 150-165 trays per day. To reduce machine downtime when there is damage, the implementation of machine maintenance management is needed. OEE is a method used to calculate machine effectiveness based on availability, performance, and quality. Using data from May 2022 to April 2023, the average OEE value obtained is 60.66%, indicating that the filler machine performance is below the standard of 85%. The calculation of the Six Big Losses shows that the values affecting machine performance are breakdown losses with a time loss of 22,825 minutes, rework losses with a time loss of 15.8 minutes, and setup and adjustment with a time loss of 41.8 minutes, indicating that the largest factor and the main cause affecting the OEE value of the filler machine is breakdown losses, which reduces the production rate.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MsDs) among fresh fruit bunch (FFB) loading workers at Afdeling 6 of PT. XYZ, Pelalawan. A quantitative approach was used with the Nordic Body Map (NBM) and Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) as research instruments. The NBM results indicated that the most frequently reported discomfort was in the back, upper arms, wrists, and legs. Meanwhile, the REBA assessment showed that all workers fell into the high-risk category with scores ranging from 8 to 9, indicating the need for immediate changes in work methods. These findings suggest that manual FFB loading activities pose a significant risk of work-related injuries. Therefore, improvements in working posture, the use of ergonomic tools, and better work schedule arrangements are necessary to reduce the risk of muscle injuries among workers..
